  1. Excellent 2x45rpm release Suspect I might not have seen it due to a lot of those later Prestige doubles not being UK issues and often only encountered as US or French imports (not sure if this one came out in France).
  2. Same here. I like the picture of the snow hut. 47 W63rd DG mono
  3. Very unpromising 1958 archive show on TV of ‘Sunday Night at the London Palladium’. Pretty dreadful until.... the first UK TV performance of the Divine Sarah Vaughan ! In very good voice too.
  4. I guess Joe Harriott did record with Chris Barber but that is stretching things a bit !
  5. I have loads of those Milestone twofers but not that one. Can’t recall ever coming across it either, strangely. King LP Followed by more on King
  6. Sadly, that sort of idiocy seems to be rampant everywhere.
  7. That King version is a very nice issue. Better than the real thing !
  8. Mark Nightingale
  9. Yeah. Can’t go wrong with these vintage Uptown releases.
  10. If I can find it, I’ll give ‘Haunted Ballroom’ from this one a spin. Featuring spooky WW2 drum solo by prodigy wonder-kind Victor F. with Glenn Miller’s AAFB.
  11. It would be interesting to see if Decca do a nice reissue of that one in their ‘Explosion’ series. All gone very quiet with that - maybe they are holding off until next year for more (hopefully). Norma is a strange name for a label. Sponsored by she of ‘more peas dear’ perhaps?.
  12. I guess you could write a whole thesis about this mentioning population density, ethnic vulnerabilities, levels of obesity, age, area deprivation etc. but how many of those 1000+ were double vaccinated? Very few, I would suggest.
  13. Yes, fine album. The version I was listening to was on a French Milestone double but I also have the original. Very powerful sax front line once they get going too, with Stubblefield and Azar Lawrence.
  14. Friends of mine who were in London the other day were shocked at the total lack of social distancing and refusal to wear masks of many of the people using the Underground. Not exactly helping the situation.
  15. Sounds great ! Good to hear that Simon S. is back in live tenor action.
  16. Once it arrives, I’ll post some comments about it. The Pure Pleasure Tolliver reissues I’ve heard so far, mastered by Ray Staff, sound great. I’ll bet the originals never sounded so good.
  17. Me ! (back in the day )
  18. Finally opted for Pure Pleasure’s LP reissue of Charles Tolliver Music Inc. ‘Live at the Loosdrecht Jazz Festival’. Retribution for having sold my Black Lion copy to Mole Jazz for a pittance all those years ago ! Also threw in a ‘Live at Slugs Vol 2’.
  19. Too bad that tooter’s site is no longer in operation. That was the fount of all knowledge relating to Ronnie Ross. At least the thread survives though.
  20. There’s a whole archive thread on Ronnie Ross to consult - one of the board members at the time (Tooter) even set up a pretty definitive tribute site. Ronnie Ross Thread
  21. Sorry to hear that. Considering the cost of these is 3x the CD, pretty damn poor of Optimal.
