  1. 'After the television report, the local government quickly issued an order to stop the practice and demanded that village committees have to report details of each funeral plan within 12 hours after a villager dies.' Village Committees will now be working lots of overtime methinks..
  2. You've got to be a black and white fetishist to really appreciate the Big Boxes !
  3. 106 and counting... (I may have missed a couple )
  4. PM sent !
  5. Indeed a very Happy Birthday to Mr Shorter, still one of the most unpredictable tenor/soprano players around and one of the greatest composers in this music. His recent appearance at Northsea Rotterdam was an inspiration. Glad I was there !
  6. Tubby Hayes 'Tubbs' (UK Fontana stereo) Hank Mobley 'No Room For Squares' (BN NY USA mono) Lee Morgan/Freddie Hubbard 'Night of the Cookers Vol 1' (BN NY USA mono)
  7. Smiffy Plugg Lord Snooty
  8. That was a single LP! Due to Connie Kay's abundant use of a crotale for a ride cymbal, this record makes a great tweeter test. Beyond that, it's the funkiest the MJQ ever got - listen to Percy Heath's bass grooves and John Lewis' bluesy comping, which is like a James Brown horn section undernath his elegant touch. There's a copy of that one on LP in my local Oxfam shop. Haven't worked up the nerve though to take it to the nice ladies at the counter..
  9. Maynard Ferguson LP set, LP 7. Working my way through a few LPs in this mammoth set, in recognition of a fine artist.
  10. Yes, the sound quality on the UK Fontana is pretty marvelous too. And the UK version is a bit cheaper..
  11. This is really sad news, I was looking forward to the chance to get to see him live again, somehow this has eluded me though. Always remember his 'feature' at the Montreal Olympics - RIP. The Mosaic box will be coming out tonight in tribute.
  12. Mrs Slocum Mrs Slocum's pussy Felix
  13. George Russell 'The Outer View' (UK Fontana)
  14. Johnny Goryl Rich Rollins Dave Boswell James Boswell Dr. Johnson Alphonso Johnson
  15. Indeed it is. I'm going to have to start blocking www.mosaicrecords.com.
  16. Available at a certain site..
  17. Off the top of my head I'm not sure but 'Alligator Boogaloo', 'Mr Shing-A-Ling' and 'The Jody Grind' must be some of the last. 'Forlenza Venosa Associates' got heavily involved after the Liberty takeover.
  18. Wasn't the 'Blue John' issued on a DMM ( ) vinyl back in the early 1990s? I have this on the CD but I'm sure I've also seen the vinyl.
  19. Not K. Abe? (who did quite a few of this series I think)
  20. It even got as far as the cover art for 'Back To The Tracks' appearing on W61st inner sleeves, I believe. I'll check later but I'm sure I've seen this one. Pretty sure the cover art for "Blue John" also appeared on an inner sleeve or two - back in the day. (I remember the linernotes mentioning this - although I'm away from my copy at the moment, otherwise I'd check personally.) Yes, I'm pretty damn sure I've seen that one too on some of those pre-'66 vintage inner sleeves.
  21. I've just had an email from them saying that there's 1 week of the sale to go (ends Aug 31st) and that they now do PayPal. Oh dear.. no excuses now for Stitt and Poppa Lou
  22. I hear ya. Yeah, but they still had shots of those puuurrrttttyyy models to use. Actually, I was under the impression that Lush Life had been issued originally at the time. Was that actually a "rainbow" LP the first time it came out? First issue was a King pressing in Japan. It had a terrible generic cover. I quite like the King cover of that one. Wasn't the first issue actually the 'Applause' budget issue?
  23. It even got as far as the cover art for 'Back To The Tracks' appearing on W61st inner sleeves, I believe. I'll check later but I'm sure I've seen this one.
