  1. Yep. They were marketed in the UK by RCA in the mid-70s so that's why I think of them as 'RCAs'.
  2. Soft Machine 'Seven' (UK CBS) You need joss-sticks and a lava lamp to groove out to this one
  3. Brothers Grimm Hans Christian Anderson Aesop
  4. Not me, and we can't receive her show in the UK.
  5. Apparently it is rare on CD. I've sold a number of these on vinyl, and the winning bids were all in the 75-125 range. Ah, that explains it. I think my vinyl cost a reasonable £50.
  6. Sam Rivers 'Dedication Series Vol VII - The Live Trio sessions' (Impulse 70s twofer)
  7. What, no Miles Davis 'Blue Xmas' to lead things off and put everyone in a happy, charitable frame of mind?
  8. I've got original Audio Fidelity vinyl of these two. I'll dig them out over the next few days and check. Sound as I recall was OK without being outstanding.
  9. PM sent !
  10. The archetypal classy mainstream trombonist. He makes it sound so easy. I'll dig out that Vanguard 'Essential' 2LP set later today.
  11. That Chet Baker seems to be back in the catalogue again. It is listed now as available (first item) and as unavailable (third item) on the Amazon.fr website Broken Wing The Amazon UK site is also listing it as in stock so I guess that it's now oficially back in print ! It's been on auto-repeat on my CD player today - not too many CDs have that impact. Very highly recommended, one of the very best sessions Chet ever recorded I think. Standout on the session has got to be J.F. Jenny-Clark. He's all over that bass and adds hugely to the session. What a player !

I recall hearing him many years ago in a London performance with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers (I wonder if that was the lineup with Blanchard and Harrison?) and he was excellent. Sounds like a fun 'hang' !
  13. This one has gone ballistic. Is it really that rare? Quebec/Hardee
  14. Ah, the memories of that fine emporium . Picked up lots of Japanese import Blue Note titles there (including a rare sighting for the time of the Tyrone Washington). The range they had in the early to mid 1990s was pretty astonishing.
  15. Clifford Brown Helen Merril Helen of Troy
  16. Continuing the Impulse theme: 'The Happy Horns of Clark Terry' (Impulse stereo original)
  17. And the Lou Donaldson 'Say It Loud' (another good one).
  18. Great stuff ! Even though I've got that Prestige Coltrane CD box I still like to bring out the RCA twofers on a regular basis. Us Coltrane fanatics are spoilt for choice these days and long may it last..
  19. The release of this album by Verve was listed a few months ago on their website. It's no longer listed. Anyone knows if this was indeed reissued? Picked up the 'Broken Wing' at my local Borders today for £6. Looks like it is back in stock (my jaw dropped when I saw it in the rack, I thought it was long OOP and rare). Lovely album by the way - great group, great sound and Baker at his most lyrical.
  20. I think you're correct. I seem to recall reading that UK masters were used in the most recent CD issue of 'A Love Supreme' - being the best surviving audio source. I have a couple of HMV mono Impulses of the Mingus material but was disappointed with the sound though. Will have to check them out again.
  21. Colonel Parker Colonel Mustard Captain Sensible
  22. Willard Scott Scott McKenzie McKenzie Phillips Emo Philips Elmo Big Bird
  23. Reading Ahley Kahn's 'House That Trane Built' book has got me pulling out my Impulse vinyl, starting with these: Yusef Lateef 'Live At Pep's' (Impulse stereo original) Quincy Jones 'The Quintessence' (UK Impulse 70s reissue - sounds great. HMV had an A1 set of master tape copies I think.) JJ Johnson/Kai Winding 'The Great Kai and JJ' (Impulse stereo original, A-1) Some real gems on this label, not to mention all of those Coltranes...
  24. I got a picture of a bearded hippie.
  25. Nice hang tonight. Some of y'all should come by sometime! Very friendly environment. Jeez - you guys were still hanging out there when I was up having breakfast next day. Must call in sometime !
