I think the Mildred Bailey is one of the finest of their sets, actually. For me, when I want to be contemplative and have that stiff drink. . . Herbie Nichols. Even when swinging it's ass off, this music is deep.

I HATE the original "Casino Royal," and not because it's a Bond spoof. No, I hate it because its a complete MESS. Because it's the only occasion when three of the most talented directors collaborated (Woody Allen, Orson Welles, and John Huston) and it's one of the worst movies ever made. And because it completely WASTES Peter Sellers. Huh. I disagree entirely! But not for the first time.

I DO love the original Casino Royale; laugh my ass off. Have to see that one again soon. Want to see the new one soon as well. And as it has been about six months since I've been at a theater, I'd really enjoy it.

Took a break from my Armstrong/Whiteman book by Berrett to read "The Crack in Space," one of the funniest of Phil K. Dick's books. Now back on the Berrett.

What music do/did your parents listen to?
jazzbo replied to The Magnificent Goldberg's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I was definitely influenced by the music I heard in my home. My dad had Bach, Beethoven and Mozart mainly in the classical world, organ music records as well (because he had researched the life of my great great great great great grandfather David Tannenberg, who was a pipe organ builder) by E. Power Biggs and others, and swing music by Miller, Goodman, and even a few Ellingtons. My mom had a few Brubecks (Jazz at Oberlin, Time Further Out, and Bossa Nova USA) and a few singers (Haymes, Clooney) she listened to. Oh, and dad is a Gershwin nutball, has all kinds of George all the time. -
Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music

Bought a few booster packs, and with last month's allotment of tracks took care of the RLR items I needed (already had the Chets on disc) and with this month's allotted tracks and some booster, downloaded the Bill Evans "Secret Sessions" box set. -
At least part of the problem is a fatty liver (I was wrong), but I have no pain there. The other is the IBS I've had since July '05, Now that I'm having significant temps, my Dad's doctor is suggesting Diverticulitis. My appointment with the internal medicine specialist was canceled 45 min. before the appt., but I insisted that I get a doctor who would look at me that day. Naturally, she ordered more tests. I hope everyone had a nice holiday and they're feeling better. ...hope you're back to feeling better soon!!! m~ ME TOO!

What are the most popular Mosaics?
jazzbo replied to mikelz777's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's true, tomorrow the list might change, indeed. I feel that way as well. I agree about the first Hill Select, and I have the second set waiting for me at home, get to hear it soon, I bet it's excellent as well. Select wise, here's my top five: Hill Blue Note Randy Weston Bennie Green Art Pepper Bechet! -
Still cracks m e up Cary. That was a fun collaborative project. . . it's on the board here somewhere.

Here's a previous discussion on Bix: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ic=3955&hl=

Good advice from Laton. I ended up deciding I had to have all the Bix material and went the Origin Jazz route, all the material in four volumes. Excellent sound on those as well. Best sound I've heard, actually. www.originjazz.com There are a few Bix threads here. . . I'll see if I can find a good one and bring it up.

Just one of many here. . . Another one to mention. . . . Was just listening to some Black & White recordings of T-Bone Walker. I think if I had the Mosaic it would be one of the top ten most played ones. Love that material! -

Brownie, I mentioned the Parker as being in my top five. One of the Mosaics that had possibly the most care in production and man it shows. A real favorite! Fantastic document for the future. -

Thing is there is a component of Mosaic purchasers who are not members of this forum. Believe it or not! I even know one, who is into exactly the type of stuff as the Bix/Tram/Tea and the Lee/Christy who doesn't even go on the internet, and he has pals that are into more prebop than postbop who shop at Mosaic. So. . . I guess I'm not that cynical, and I guess I am willing to believe that these could be items "moving". . . . -
Yes, it is the one with the interview.

Hey thanks gentlemen, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Okay, here's the GOOD news part of the equation: we're being released after tomorrow to go home for about ten days, so we're going to be traveling home on Thanksgiving day, and we'll be going to the clinic in Austin, about a mile from our house, instead of in Houston, on Friday. I'm going to get to spend some time with my cat, my stereo, and probably work half a week. Good times ahead!

Hey, I resemble that remark!

Speeding Arrow now requires one to register at the forum there before use. . . . I threw residual precaution to the wind and registered this morning. Haven't had it "approved" and put in place yet.

Funny, my top five big sets don't appear on the list really! (No exact order) Nichols Parker Bix/Tram/Tea Hodes Capitol -
Erik, YES the Dragon set is legit. Back in the days when the MD estate put the squeeze on and all these boots fled from the cd store shelves, the Dragon remained. They must either have dealt with the estate or have inalienable international rights. Upgrade wise. . .yes this is better sounding than the Natasha. I have neither of those with me here in this second "home" but from memory, yes there is a bit more of Trane material on the Dragon, as well as all that (really good) stuff with Stitt.
-
I've heard all this material on boots I believe. You won't be disappointed.
