  1. Grats on bein' on rekkid!
  2. Hey, that's weird,3 and 8 are awol from the gdstore. . . . Odd!
  3. They're both either good. . . or awful. . . depending how you feel about Shepp and his "dramatic" souljazz works on Impulse.
  4. New ones: Sarah Vaughan Sarah + 2 Hot Club Of Detroit Hot Club Of Detroit Joe Williams A Man Ain't Supposed To Cry Oscar Castro-Neves All One Archie Shepp Kwanza I ordered the Joe Williams. Man. . .I had just gotten the Shepp at TWICE the price. . . ! Silly me. I really dig this cd reissue. It's a collection of odds and ends, but doesn't sound like one to me. . . .I've always dug the lp but my copy has "problems."
  5. I wonder if anyone ever really put quality amplification in a B3. .. Not that the stock doesn't do the job admirably, but better chassis, transformers, resistors and capacitors, the best possible tubes. . . ?
  6. I've been enjoying that site for a year or more. You know, I think those Irwins are absolute works of art. BUT. . .my favorite "sound" of the Dead guitars are in the Les Paul/SG years.

  8. Serious question. I don't have a serious answer. I've got about as much Ducal stuff as you do. I WOULD like to complete the DETS . . . I'll buy all the cds that come out. I'd like to have "A Drum is a Woman" in a great Columbia cd edition. I could LIVE with that forward for some time, listening to the stuff I have. . . .Wouldn't need more. . . . BUT I'd WANT more. You can get sort of addicted to collecting Ducal stuff.
  9. Okay. I'll take your word for it.
  10. I'm going to fill up this month with Bunk Johnson, Lu Watters and Bob Scobey stuff I don't have . . . .
  11. None! I bought none! Amazing!
  12. I at least got a good chuckle out of the thread, but I have to say (and no offense meant Simon) the article did nothing for me, and I wondered why it was written and "published!" Just seemed . . . missable. No point in it being out there. (Like lots of stuff on AAJ, to me). Unless one just has to pound on Wynton some more because one hasn't yet done it enough.
  13. Good advice here. Keep on keepin' on. You'll get there!
  14. The Lars Gullin Mosaic. No, wait a minute, it's the second half of the volumes in the Dragon series. Seems like Mosaic work!
  15. Good question! I have them all. . . in the Mosaic, and again many of them on Japanese Blue Note cds. . . but I tell you, I think they would sound splendid in RVG editions!
  16. No, different dvds!
  17. The Storyville DETS cd sets are excellent: the sound is great, they also have added on broadcasts from the Hurricane, and other broadcast material to each cd . . . great value.
  18. Now reading Phillip K. Dick Society Newsletter #5 (last weekend went through boxes and got them all out and threw them in an Accogrip binder) while "Voices From the Street" sits on the chair beside the couch I'm sitting on, just waiting.
  19. Well, not only that, but he was writing so well, if slowly and metinculously (which was very different from his earlier methods). "The Transformation of Timoty Archer" was an excellent, excellent novel, perhaps in some ways, his best, most mature. And who knows what "The Owl in Daylight" might have become. It's a shame. . .but reading about his life (and reading about how he felt those final years about his impending end) I find it hard to imagine he would live. You know, afer thinking about it for a decade I sent him a letter right at the start of '82, full of my awe and gratitude for his work, and a tale of hunting out each of his books after I bought the very first one ("The Zap Gun") in Addis Ababa in 1967. He replied in a bright breezy letter. . . and in weeks the news was that he had gone. I was just floored! I had never before been quite so moved by the death of someone not a member of my family.
  20. Dawson was a teacher of Tony's I've read. I definitely hear some Dawson in Tony, especially in hihat use. And some Roy. And some Elveen too. But. . .he became his own man. . .almost before he qualified (as a man!)
  21. Got my Select yesterday! So good to hear a clean "Inner Glow!"

    Bud Freeman

    Bud's book is worth reading.
  23. This was recently available as a Japanese cd. . . I bet "Mr. Tanno" could get it for you.
  24. I saw this film once. . . thought it was mean and depressing and I never want to see it again! I do like the Chico music though. . . .
