  1. Yes, I have a tuner so to speak, I have a B&O receiver in my second (living room) system. After my friend Dave stopped doing his weekly radio show a while back I've not listened to the radio much at all. Sometimes I'll put on a classical music station, sometimes I'll listen to the UT station if it has interesting music going. Really a small percentage of my listeing time.
  2. Okay, I'm a dirty old man, but this was a favorite when I bought it the year it came out. . . so I was a dirty young man.
  3. You call that a collection?
  4. Isn't it more accurate to say they now have a small fraction of the Storyville label? Good news, sure. "The Jaywalker!"
  5. I would too, and I have that stuff too. Duke. . . an artist to listen to for a lifetime.
  6. Well I was naughty. I did NOT order the set properly. Used paypal for the first time on a Mosaic order for this set on November 8, and there was another screen I was supposed to go to after I made the paypal payment, and I didn't. So since several of you have received your sets and I haven't even received a shipping notice I inquired. . . and they were able to find my order in the system and ship it today. Another fine example of the great customer service that Mosaic offers.
  7. I don't read what he says about jazz, etc. But I like a lot of his music. I like the Blues Trilogy sessions, I really like "Blood on the Fields," "The Magic Hour" and others.

Welcome Frankie, Keep posting. I haven't heard of any plans for that US Basra yet! Maybe we have to end the war first?
  9. "You've got Mail." (I couldn't risk the chance of Dick and Jane or George messing up the international monetary system in the next week).
  10. Hey, I take what I can get. . . . My expectations of jazz reissue programs diminish as time goes by. The majors are all about the money. They have bigger needs as bigger beasts and overlook the 1% of buyers that we are. The copyright laws. . . well with floods of classic stuff coming in from Europe, we'll hardly see many of these titles from the majors that hold the best sources. Ah well. Yes, rebuying is silly. I do it for the stuff I really like, like RAM. . . . I have 99% of the Columbia/Sony Duke (gaps filled in nicely by Chronogical Classics and CSB France) so. . . I'll rebuy it when they get around to it. (The 200th birthday? I'm planning on being around, bionic parts and all.)
  11. I actually think they did a great job with the "Round About Midnight" deluxe two cd set and would welcome more classic jazz lps done this way. Specially if yourmusic.com picks them up!
  12. The remaining three RVGS from that last batch are now on yourmusic.com
  13. Yo, Flurin, I don't disagree with ya. . . but the Newport stuff put out by Columbia is just the one (big moment) track. Then again there was that "Newport and Miscellaneous" release that had all the Newport material on it before, likely the source for the tracks in this box set. I've decided to translate "Never on cd before" as usually meaning "we've never put this out before. . . or have we?"
  14. Once upon a time or three!
  15. Someone better get the JIP boxes. They're. . .beautiful.
  16. I'm beginning to know the type of courage he had and some of what he has been through. I salute his strength and his spirit. Sad news, and my best to his family and friends.
  17. Finally you caught up to me! Many many more happy happy returns!
  18. Well, I love Duke Pearson. . . but he's a Junior Duke compared to the Maestro!
  19. Also be on the lookout for some of my favorite broadcasts: Basie Orchestra from the thirties. . . pick any one. . . awesome. Duke from the Panther Room, or the Cotton Club, or. . . Jay McShann Orchestra (with Bird) airchecks Benny Goodman Orchestra (and Trio and Quartet) from the Madhattan Room or elsewhere It's amazing to think you could spin the radio dial and catch these.
  20. Guy, I was just going to add a post to suggest the Due Ellington Treasury Shows! (DETS) Aric, check 'em out! Amazing!
  21. It took you 3 posts to bring this up? Good stuff! (and thanks!) Well, I was scared away from the use of the term "hard bop" really. I mean. . .that's a very narrow definition for SOME people. And not a lot of CBBB material fits that so narrowly.
  22. Not bloody likely!
  23. If there's any Smallville fans here. . . I notice that Target.com has the first three seasons (all three I think are six dvd sets) for 18 dollars each.
  24. YAY! Christmas with the Duke!
