  1. GREAT NEWS!
  2. C'mon guys! The only hip dentist is. . . Dmitry!
  3. Do it! It may hurt for a few days after. . . but it will be worth it. So sayeth fifty one year old me.
  4. Right. I think Bird's music is so wonderful, I'd rather hear it in challenged sound than many other recordings in glorious sound. But that's me! The man was a freakin' musical force of nature. Sure, almost any of the Verve fifties recordings, to amplify what Mike points out, are quite decent sounding, and a good entry point if fidelity matters do keep one at bay.
  5. Those look good. I hope they sound better than the more conventional powered HK speakers that I have with my work PC. They're awful. Mud.

Cool, thanks Mike. When I first saw W. C. he had a killer Hammond player in his band. He and Omar and the Howlers were the only two bands I remember with Hammond's prominently featured. Great stuff!

He was already a seasoned member of the Austin Scene in 1980 when I first started seeing him. That would have been after his SRV time (I knew of Triple Threat of the seventies, but didn't think W. C. was involved). The real deal as Mike says.
  8. Many more happy ones young whippersnapper!
  9. That Don Cherry unreleased Savoy apparently was never even intended to be a Savoy. And yes, it was released to the download throng in the last year, sort of coupled with some Contemporary 5 stuff.
  10. The lps are good. Not essential, but good listening, great sound.
  11. Oh cool, I'll watch those when I can later.

Man, brotherly love is always happenin' at the Org! (Yeah right, but in this case really nice offer Dan!)
  13. Ah yes, the Playboy After Hours resurfaces. Not enough Ron on camera, but at least someone was caught dancing!
  14. Definitely a good one!

Can't help you on recordings, I've never heard any. I got spoiled in that the first five years or so of my stay here in Austin I would go see W. C. ("Windy City") and his band in small clubs and dance and listen and even talk to him a few times. As far as I can tell a really nice man. A great player and singer.
  16. Amazing player! It's astonishing to realize how important he was to that sax section sound (which was a very distinctive section). And solo he was like no one else. I treasure the Bell Telephone Hour video I have of the Orchestra and he has a few reallly nice segments soloing on that.
  17. I would be surprised if it is not compatible Tony. You could also always call Steve Deckert, the builder, he likes to talk and he KNOWS. I absolutely love their products. I'll keep buying them as long as funds allow and needs arise.
  18. The ones I don't have are: • Robert Pozar • Joseph Scianni • Vincent Hill • Ed Curran • Marzette Watts Would like to have the others, especially the Watts, cuz I like the ESP so much.
  19. Thanks for the headsup Ron.
  20. Oh, I have the original Columbia cd as well. . .can't part with a sentimental favorite.
  21. Started Joshua Berrett's "Louis Armstrong & Paul Whiteman: Two Kings of Jazz." Not bad.
  22. Paul, I'm listening to the extra material on the cd right now. . . .Only fair, to answer your question with a new listen. YES! The material that is not just alternates of the album tracks seals the deal. Dmitry, I have the SACD too, but listen to the new cd more often.
  23. My wife, in happier times, watched the first season, and I spend time with her and watched it. I actually enjoyed parts of it, especially watching John O'Hurley (think that's his name). Absolutely positively hated the host and the judges though. Squirmed my way through it all. After the first one my wife was no longer interested. . . I got lucky.
  24. I just can't stay away from this one. It ensnares me. Just one of those I'll always have and always enjoy. The expanded cd is great too because. . . there's more. I know I have other Orbit brothers. . . .
