Hey, I don't disbelieve you, and I haven't seen any European Concord releases etc. BUT the titles on the US blowout sale they said were all "to be deleted" titles. It was a heckuva thing. All those titles. . .I bought too many but I did want to have them, and didn't know how long I would have!

You know the sound will be improved. Wow. I hope it comes out. I have my doubts. But then I would, seeing the email from Belden that I did. But man. . . I want it. I remember that it took about two or three years from when I saw the track listing for the Cellar Door set and when it came out. Hope that doesn't happen this go round.

What was your board name on the BNBB?

I was "Lon" at bluenote and jazz central station. When I came here. . . honestly, I had just had a dream about my Uncle Suds and a little cast iron bank he had called "Jazzbo Jimmy" and I on a lark signed on as jazzbo. -
No. Following their link there's one in stock at amazon.com US (only ONE) for 11.98.

Flurin, the "blowout sale" they had they represented as getting rid of titles that were going to be deleted. . . there were over 300 from the different labels (Prestige, Riverside, Specialty, etc.) and maybe closer to 400 at the beginning I think. So. . . grab those reasonably priced "Limited Editions" etc. while you can, they may not be about for too much longer (?)

Well, whatever you can find reasonably priced. The Dragon Records series on Gullin is excellent. I find it hard to get these cheaply. . . .ejazzlines.com has excellent service and has the best prices, about 20 dollars with postage, that I've found recently. There are nine volumes, all good. For Wilen, the "New York Romance" (aka "Le Ca"-there's a cedille there I don't know how to make on this keyboard) is pretty easy to find, and I think available on emusic. Again, almost anything you can find is worth hearing; I especially like his later, mature years, seem most Mobley-Jones like to me.

Oh, and get some Jimmy Rowles.

I think you would like two European jazz masters: Barney Wilen and Lars Gullin. You'll find a similar deep grace within their work.

New `Idol' Season Shows Mean Streak
jazzbo replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Last year I made my wife happy and took her to an Idol CONCERT. Every show around us (Houston and Austin) sold out. There were people there in their sixties, fifties, forties, thirties, twenties, teens and pre-teens. I haven't seen such an enthusiastic and attentive audience since I saw Stevie Wonder in a Chicago stadium in the seventies. This is NOT just a TV phenomenum. And it's a serious cash cow that will graze a long time. -
How did you 'hear' about the Organissimo.org forums?
jazzbo replied to eeegor's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Yea, forsooth the Moose speaketh true! Welcome! We've done this topic before on a thread. Many of the original members (Most, actually) did get here within a few months of the abolishment of the late Blue Note bulletin board. -
I'm afraid they may take this opportunity to put the material added to the DETS cds here. . . which would mean very little new material! Until we see a set list. . . I'm saving money by pretending to myself I'm morally indignant (and realistically broke).

Hmmmm. . . music that comes from his body and soul. . . I can dig it.

I haven't seen any copies for sale in a shop or online for a long time. . . . I did purchase nine from an acquaintance and resold them at cost to another here last year. Lucky and unusual break!

what are you drinking right now?

Ruta Maya coffee, medium roast. Grown organically by a collective of Mexican farmers, roasted here in Austin. Excellent! This is how I greet the day when I can. -

Chris, I can certainly see things from your viewpoint. The truth of the matter as I see it is that the judges really don't matter much. Almost anyone would pick a similar batch of 100 finalists or so, and then whittle a similar batch to 24. And after that, no matter what the judges blather on about, it's the tv audience that votes and decides. . . believe it or not. (I can't believe a lot of their choices! Such as when they voted off Jennifer Hudson. . . who is slaying moviegoers now in "Dream Girls." I KNEW that woman was the shit!) The main appeal for me? My wife LOVES the show, when it gets down to the finalists. It's allowed her to grow an interest in music, and it opened the door for me to show her other musicians and singers. I showed her several versions of Summertime that I thought were far more intriguing than Catharine McPhee's for example, and she understood why I thought so and enjoyed the comparisons. Before AI, this would NEVER EVER have happened! I really get a kick out of Helen discovering a joy in music. . . . I really am grateful to Idol for that. -

Woody Herman. You don't think thirties Basie with Rushing qualifies? -
I preordered it and have been enjoying it. I've had the mono lp longer, stunningly remastered by Robert Shawn Dudley (it's an "RSD Edition") to cdr. I really have always liked this session and recommend it.
