  1. Many more more more!
  2. I never take my Mosaic cds in my car. Never. No, wait a minute, I don't have a car. Nevermind.
  3. I actually may be one of the few people on the planet that genuinely liked Alexander. (Course I am fascinated with ancient history and would have seen this no matter who wroate and directed it and would have enjoyed even disliking a version for its inaccuracies, etc.--Stone did very well in this regard). I agree wholeheartedly about his "hamfistedness" in some films but in this one. . . I don't know, I think that his intent was to draw parallels to the Bush father and son campaigns and Philip's and Alexander's and yet no one else I know who saw the film got even a glimpse of that! Maybe I'm just way off base. I think the cinematography in this and others of his is really fine.
  4. I agree that this is a great set with "some stuff" you won't find anywhere else (though I did have a sizabale amount of material on Timeless, Frog, etc. discs, great stuff!
  5. Looks like a very cool place. The MacBooks released a few days ago also look very cool. We may be picking one up for my wife this weekend; here in hotel rooms we're fighting over my iBook constantly, we really need another computer!

    Alex Sipiagin

Saw him with the Mingus Big Band. . . oh yeah, that's been mentioned before. Haven't been checking out his solo stuff. . .Criss Cross is not in my crosshairs usually. I've heard lead and section work on Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra broadcasts. . . .
  7. Yes, I understand it's a CD. Do you mean it's a digipac? That's just how they make these things. If there were no liners -- save for a tracklist and a few lines of yadda -- on the original LP, there will be no liners with the LPR CD. it is one of those cardboard jobs with an opening on the left flap to slide in a booklet. the cd lays flat on the right side. Yeah, Verve used those for the series whether there was an insert with a back cover or liner notes. . . or not.
  8. Yes. . .they did one of those in the Columbia Small Group Swing set. . . all of these have now been on cd except for "Sings the Smith Girls" (why the hell not?)
  9. John, You DA man. Loves it. Those guys who write letters to penthouse about amputees probably love it too.
  10. I'm with John. I have this at home somewhere, but I won't be home for a few months. . . so I can't check. But I don't think it came with liner notes.
  11. I hear they're going to use this as the cover photo and photophop her into Monk's little red wagon. (C'mon JOHN!) I DON'T most of us jazz snobs are going to like this album. . . .
  12. I think the title refers to his stint with Miles. . ..
  13. I recommend the Dr. Jazz series if anyone likes Chicago style! And all the Ellingtons are great. . . .Music wise. I really like "The Jay Walker," The Treasury Series, and the Togo Brava Suite.
  14. Three more Nina Simone RCA/Legacy cds added!
  15. Okay, I managed to figure out how to search right, been a long time since I was on one of these sister sites. Ordered four Storyville label titles (the two cd Whiteman, the June Christy, the V-Disk Party with BG, and the Strayhorn disc (have the stuff, still have to have this version, it's a sickness) and . . .the Whiteman on HEP, all for 53 dollars. I'm broke again.

  17. Ghost, I don't know if you got the email I did, or just stumbled across this, but from my email, it sounds like bad news long term! BYE BYE LABELS... Stock up now on these 4 labels withdrawing from the U.S. Marketplace: Storyville Records All Titles 50% OFF Go Jazz All Titles 50% OFF Dixie Frog All Titles 50% OFF Staccato All Titles 50% OFF ... I believe these are just changing distributorship that's all. I'm not in the market for fiscal reasons, but my search only pulled up four titles. Y'all work fast!
  18. Alex Blake is a true marvel!
  19. I notice a certain Mike Flanagan is a Braith-a-holic. . . .
  20. The influence game is a hard one to play! I'll pass on this hand. .. I don't have enough information. Like both those players. . . Bunn was something else! I had that "Romance in the Dark" too. Can't get enough of Hadda. . .or Una, another beautiful talented lady whose piano playing and singing I really love.
  21. Hmmm. . . allmusic does say that the Brooks sides were their first release. Interesting. And allmusic is always right. . .
  22. I believe that he had done some singles before hers. . . I'm pretty certain; the details are in the Ace cds' liner notes, but my copies are in Austin and I'm in Houston for the next few weeks. As I remember it: He asked her "Can you play boogie woogie?" He'd already made some records of black artists I think and wanted to have some boogie woogie piano out there. She was plugging songs, playing a piano in a music store. She caught his eye. She would catch any redblooded male's eye then I think!
  23. Both really good cds. . . but the Flair is out of print and may be hard to find. Ace reissued two great cds that cover all that material and more, in great great sound, highly recommended. I also really like the Okeh sides that are out on Columbia/Legacy. (And in print). Work from her final decade is really good, it's a shame so much of her material is out of print, though it can be found. This one has both old and newer material: This one is fantastic: If Norah Jones was a hit why not this one? There's also a collection on the Spanish label Ocium that has great tunes; I haven't heard it. She was such a lovely lady.
