  1. When I compared the TOCJs and the RVGs on a scope they didn't look that different! Anyway, the new ones sound a lot different than the first year's did. I enjoy them. TOCJs DO sound sort of dull and flat to me nowadays. I guess it's different strokes, and systems, for different folks. I'm glad the series has kept going and am curious to hear the Prestige versions.
  2. Yes, when it came out. Pretty cool.
  3. Reviewers like to get Mosaic sets for free?
  4. Yes I stood in line to mail some packages this morning . . .about twenty minutes. I didn't need 2 cent stamps, but most everyone ahead of me did. I knew weeks ahead of time that the rate was going up. . . ! I guess I was alone!
  5. RVGs seem to be selling better, compression and all... Interestingly enough, a digital engineer I know said there was SERIOUS compression going on on the TOCJ series of discs, 16 and 20 bit. Anyway, RVGs don't sound the way they used to. I think they sound great for the most part. I'll probably get "Gettin' Around" first from this batch. All the Dexter talk lately!
  6. If you mean what would've happened had he stayed in the states in the 60s & early 70s, my hunch is that he'd have died much sooner than he did. I'm afraid you might be right.
  7. I think it was a joke. . .playing on the purity of the powder. But. . . what do I know about that stuff. Hey anyone want to speculate on how Dexter's final decade or decade and a half would have been if he hadn't been an expatriot those years? Do you think he would have had to sharpen and tighten to keep eveb with or ahead of the pack with the diminishing market?
  8. Man, oh man. . . I've tried to like this music ever since the lps came out. . . . I just don't and it's not the sound that keeps me from doing so! I used to feel that I SHOULD. But. . . what the heck, I yam what I yam.
  9. Many more happy ones. Party on Garth!
  10. Johnny Smith Roost . . . great mellow swinging relaxing stuff.
  11. Many more good ones for ya!
  12. Yes, you ought to get it. Also. . . I think the review above from the Steve Audiowartnuts Forum is not as enthusiastic as is appropriate for the Baggy's Rehearsal disc. But maybe that's just me.
  13. What a cool Slim Harpo cover! You can almost "hear" it! I last bought the new Blue Note Connoisseur additions to yourmusic.com and all shipped but the Quebec which was backordered (gee, I'll just have to live with the Mosaic version til it ships!)
  14. Bol, that is great music, will make a nice set! Guy, wow, good suggestion; I would buy that Select if they add unissued material.
  15. Isn't it a true-ism or a truth that Mosaic won't be able to listen former-fantasy label items? (That may be changed now with the Concord acquisition, but I wouldn't be surprised if it hasn't). That would be one reason that there is no Tjader set. That would leave mostly Universal sessions, right?
  16. I recently flipped myself out yet again to the beautiful duets between Tommy Flanagan and Barry Harris on several Monk tunes on the BMG video "Thelonious Monk: An American Composer." Outstanding! I also have a soft spot in my musical heart for a Savoy lp that paired Eddie Costa and John Mehegan, "A Pair of Pianos." Also like the odd but great "The Country And Western Sound of Toshiko Akiyoshi and Steve Kuhn" on I think Audio Fidelity.
  17. Wow. . . Tyrone Washington "Do Right"
  18. I'm looking forward to an upcoming Bob Weir cd. . . "Weir Plays Weil" . . . . I hear the first single will be "Me and My Uncle Mack the Knife."
  19. Just read the Hoffman forum. . . .It reproduces the Hendrix site message. . . . I still haven't received mine, but that's good, means I'm going to receive a corrected copy I believe!
  20. Wonderful sessions. Swingin' and expert players. Another bootleg production!
  21. Alright, it's okay. . . four a day. . . seems a reasonable limit! I've had the bootleg for a while. It's listenable. This should be an improvement though. Pretty good performance. . .even though it was a disaster of a day for the band!
  22. Cool. Don't forget Hear My Music. . .
  23. John, I love them all too. That notice about the speed was on the daggerrecord.com pages themselves, a little pop up box used to popup saying there was a problem with the very initial batch of discs pressed, that has been corrected.
  24. The music on that set is wonderful in my opinion. The different pianists and other accompanists give different flavors to the Donaldson stew that really makes for nice listening. I have almost all this set on individual Japanese and American cds that I like to listen to better than the set (I like the sound on the separate discs better) on my main stereo, but I sometimes bring the set into work and groove groove groove to the sounds coming out of the computer.
