  1. Ah, that stare, that whole shtick of hers seems so phoney to me! And there's nothing behind her vocal glibbness for me. . . .Emothionless posturing. Just my two cents!
  2. Many more happy ones!
  3. Richard Tee! Stuff! Me likee!
  4. Man, must be great stuff! Hopefully I can get home soon, unseal an envelope, and get my world rocked! Meanwhile I'm enjoying a live Andy Bey radio performance!
  5. Sutton, in my humble opinion, is an incredibly gifted, mature and skillfull singer. She possesses nearly everything ought to be in the skills of a jazz musician in terms of swing (the main factor!!), pitch, harmonic knowledge, techinque and use of the voice like an instrument (etc). In her records she sometimes play duets with only bass or drums (this could suggest something of her rhythmic skills!). Jet her voice may sound too clear, rethoric and simple for someone's standards, and she chooses a little too much the "classic jazz standards" side, maybe, in her repertory as in the arrangements. Her last two records seem to repeat known patterns more than I expected. But she's such a great interpreter she masters the vocal jazz idiom as a few living singers. Best cds: Introducing Tierney Sutton (A Records 1995), Blue In Green (Telarc 2001), Something Cool (Telarc 2002) - always according to my taste I've heard all those records. . .and. . .well, I totally respectd your taste! I just don't dig her. Maybe one day.
  6. Taylor Hicks . . . "worked it out dude!" I just ignored Rod. It was easy. I was surprised at Daughtry's performance. Really liked it. Paris too. . . she could play Dinah Washington in a lurid biopic in about ten years. McPhee looks beautiful as hell but bores the hell out of me. I like Taylor, I like Elliot. Reminds me of my BROTHER Shawn. Sings better. . . come on, ya gotta admit that Mr. D! I don't think Elliot will be around much longer, which is a shame. Taylor seems to have real solid popularity. I wish I'd seen the SNL parody!
  7. Pres Lives!
  8. Yeah, I can understand that. I feel that way about AEC, I have a few sessions and that's enough for me!
  9. I got a very early set upon release, with a low number, but that doesn't help. I really like this set.
  10. You know, the Williams discs on Frog sound great. So do the ones on Collectors Classics. But I also must say the Chronogical (sic) Classics editions are excellent sounding, and a great way to collect the majority of the sides. I have about nine of these, may try to get those I'm missing one day soon.
  11. And I was crazy about her from the first time I saw her.
  12. I met my wife in 1973. We started living together in 1990. . . . Actually, I met her in 1973 when we were both in our first year at University of Chicago, and I tried unsuccessfully to romance her, and I did manage to befriend her. I kept in touch with her til 1980 when I left Ohio for Austin and she left Chicago for Boston. Then nearly ten years later she found my number and called me out of the blue and I seized the moment. We started talking big dollars on the phone, visiting each other and she moved to Austin within five months. She's my best friend. It was serious the moment she called me up in 1990.
  13. So glad I have mine!
  14. Well to each their own of course but I have come to really like every session. . . Massey Hall. .. Thad Jones. . . Hazel Scott. .. John Dennis. . . Jackie Paris. . . all those bones. . . man, this is jampacked!
  15. The recent cd reissue of "November Girl" does indeed sound really good. In comparison to the vinyl I've heard.
  16. Wow those look good! I've been really enjoying the Ray Nance!
  17. I agree with you two, this is a great live album. I've never seena cd version from any corner of the world.
  18. I'm with you there. The photos I've seen make me really want to hear!
  19. Well I'm certainly a fan of the album, though I wouldn't call it my favorite Candid. Really fun set. Love how Roy is set up and then delivers!
  20. I like these, in fact I like these more than quite a few other Rudd pieces (of earlier vintage). And I like the sound. Going to have to root these out and spin them again when I'm back home again.
  21. Yeah now you can customize your "title" to anything you. . . . Oh. . . Never mind.
  22. You know, I've always thought it would be easy for me to be a Copenhagen convert.
  23. The big blue box omitted studio chatter that will (I've heard) be included here. Sound will be different. (Better? For many, the answer will probably be yes). I have probably 90% of the big blue box in other versions now that I prefer to listen to (and I enjoy the single album approach as I have had all these lps as well and know them that way) but I still have the box and like to listen to it (mostly at work, that box set makes for a nice day of work!)
  24. Another for this set. wonderful!!! Man, I really took offense at the Benny crack! Okay, just kidding. There's lots of great Goodman to hear. The three RCA set is the way to go for this Quartet (well, not strictly true, but yeah!) stuff. And there are other small group Goodman material to check out. You really owe it to yourself to hear the material with Charlie Christian.
