  9. The Complete Freddie Hubbard Blue Note & Impulse '60s Studio Sessions, Mosaic Records box set, disc 6 Reissues the Blue Note album "Breaking Point" and the big band part of the Impulse album "The Body and the Soul."
  10. Fresh Sounds did collectors a big favor by releasing this along with what is probably the others you have in a 2 cd set. https://www.discogs.com/release/13417499-Andr%C3%A9-Hodeir-Essais-Complete-Paris-New-York-Sessions There's also this 7" EP of a soundtrack from Hodeir to consider: https://www.discogs.com/release/6483400-Andr%C3%A9-Hodeir-Les-Tripes-Au-Soleil-Bande-Originale-Du-Film
  11. It has been a long time since I listened to my copy. . . but. . . By the personnel I think these are not performances you have: Alto Saxophone, Bass Clarinet – Hal McKusick Baritone Saxophone, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet – Jay Cameron Bass – George Duvivier Composed By, Liner Notes – André Hodeir Drums – Bobby Donaldson Engineer – Rudy Van Gelder Liner Notes – Ozzie Cadena Tenor Saxophone, Flute – Bobby Jaspar Trombone – Frank Rehak Trumpet – Donald Byrd, Idrees Sulieman Vibraphone – Eddie Costa Voice [Voice Obligatto] – Annie Ross (tracks: B1) The liner notes also indicate this was an American project to duplicate the compositions with American players.
  12. You'll like this Savoy record. https://www.discogs.com/master/995033-Andre-Hodeir-American-Jazzmen-Play-Andre-Hodeirs-Essais
  13. The Complete Freddie Hubbard Blue Note & Impulse '60s Studio Sessions, disc 5 Reissues the Blue Note album "Hub-Tones" and part of the Impulse album "The Body and the Soul."
  14. If meant for my Mingus post, it's the one I kept. Right now, with all the Dead dissing recently here I was prompted to put this one on. Grateful Dead "Mars Hotel" Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD
  15. I'd add Sathima Bea Benjamin as one who can get this right.
  16. "A Modern Jazz Symposium of Music and Poetry with Charles Mingus" Bethlehem/Solid Records cd Japan
  17. "A Swinging Introduction to Jimmy Knepper" Bethlehem TOCJ cd Japan. A great band!
  18. I love Duke's piano playing and don't hear it that way at all.
  19. "Duke Ellington and John Coltrane" Impulse Japan MQA/UHQCD
  20. I'm sure you're not the only one, but I have had it since it's released--not sure where I heard about its release, possibly on the Steve Hoffman forum thread I started.

  22. The first Santana release, this time the Mobile Fidelity Labs SACD version (last time was the new SACD/stereo and quad version from Japan). This Mobile Fidelity version is definitely warmer and "thicker" sounding, the Japanese Sony is far more lively sounding. Both are great listens.
  23. The Complete Freddie Hubbard Blue Note & Impulse '60s Studio Sessions, disc 4 Reissues the Impulse album "The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard" and the Blue Note album "Here to Stay."
  24. Miles Davis Bootleg Series Vol. 7 "That's What Happened, 1982-1985" Blu-Spec CD2 disc 1, again Enjoying disc 1 of this set so much more than I expected that I am playing it again. Mine is the Blu-Spec CD2 version from Japan that does not come in a clam-shell box as the US does, but in a 3 cd Fat Boy jewel case with a paper outer sleeve, closer to the format of the other series releases. Sound is very good.
  25. I'm a Dead fan. Became disillusioned when the Godchaux duo left and got off the bus. Got back on early this century when it clicked with me again and began collecting the official releases from '66 to '78 or so. Some great music to listen to!
