  1. Duke Ellington "In Sweden 1973: featuring the Swedish Guests Alice Babs, Rolf Ericson, Ake Person, Nils Lindberg" Caprice Records cd Blew the dust off this one, a great listen.
  2. deleted image of the forest in front of my house.
  3. Gil Evans Orchestra "Blues in Orbit" Enja/Solid Records Japan cd
  4. Industry, Season 2
  5. photo is reversed--this guy is not a lefty
  6. https://www.nytimes.com/1996/10/27/magazine/angry-mrs-mingus.html#:~:text=The%20first%20time%20Sue%20Mingus%20got%20caught%20stealing,three%20Mingus%20CD%27s%20she%20carried%20in%20plain%20view. “At first,” she says, “I tried to deal with the problem directly. I went into record stores and told the owners they were selling illegal merchandise. That didn’t do much good, so then I started to go in the stores, gather up the bootleg copies and walk out with them. Most of the time I wasn’t even stopped, because they knew the records were illegal. But it wasn’t solving the problem.” https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1996-11-19-ca-620-story.html
  7. It's quite interesting. It gets a bit abstract, has a mid-eastern vibe and then in the end. . .it has a cool swinging piece.
  8. Ibrahim Maalouf "Kalthoum" Impulse cd, "Special Tour Edition" (box with art cards) Arranged By – Frank Woeste, Ibrahim Maalouf Double Bass – Larry Grenadier Drums – Clarence Penn Piano – Frank Woeste Saxophone – Mark Turner Trumpet – Ibrahim Maalouf
  9. Keith Jarrett Trio "Still Live" ECM Japan cd 2 It's been a while since I played this one but it's one of my favorite Jarrett Trio recordings.
  10. I believe that is Dawson and Williams.
  11. Chrystal Silence towers over the others for me. Yes, and there's "Pike's Peak" with Evans and Pike--good one.
  12. I'm sort of the opposite. I agree that in general I like Freddie more as a sideman but when I want to hear a Freddie as a leader album I'd reach for a Blue Note or one of the two Impulses more than those of any other label or time. This is a great set in part to have all the sessions in uniform excellent mastering, and I was able to help my best bud with four titles that he didn't have from duplicates this set caused me to have.
  13. I posted this on the "other" thread. Walt Dickerson albums you may be missing. . . with Ra, Crowe, Hill, Davis Jr. and Dailey. Jarrett and Burton on Atlantic is a favorite. Lem Winchester and the Ramsey Lewis Trio and With Feeling. Of course there are the Corea/Burton ECMs. Ben Thomas with Neto on Madman's Difference. Stefon Harris Kindred with Terrasson. Johnny Rae Opus de Jazz Vol. 2.

  15. Another master leaving us.
  16. Mal Waldron "Searching in Grenoble 1978 Solo Piano Concert" Resonance Records 2 cd set Great sound, interesting music. At times almost Jarrett-esque.
  17. Andrew Hill "Passing Ships" Blue Note/Tone Poet
  18. Miles Davis "Pangaea" US 2 cd set I have different Japanese versions of this wild music, but I haven't listened to the US 2 cd set in some time. It's a murky mix but the music is a swamp of fused elements and the mix suits it. And it certainly is not a victim of the loudness wars--I had to turn this UP.
  19. I agree.
  20. There's a lot of snake oil in audio, but nature and quality of wire can matter. My favorite cables have Ohno copper or silver. I can hear the difference. Just heard the difference this morning substituting a cable. http://www.norneaudio.com/litzheim/Norse-Norne-Audio-Feedback
  21. Carmen McRae "Something Wonderful" (with bonus material) Fresh Sounds cd Nice to have this extra material. A great original album.
  22. Baden Powell "The Legendary MPS Albums" disc 1 MPS 2 cd set
  23. "Gary Burton & Keith Jarrett" Atlantic/WEA Japan cd I think this was the first non-solo piano album I bought of Jarrett's back in the day. I still have the LP but this cd sounds better. I just love the tunes, the "bounce" of the groove, and Sam Brown's playing.
  24. Barney Wilen "Essential Best" Venus Records. Great great music. . . mastered in the typical Venus "way too loud" manner unfortunately. Followed by Miles Davis Bootleg Series Vol. 7 "That's What Happened, 1982-1985" Sony Blu-Spec CD2 disc 3 A great concert recorded in Montreal. Really this one shouldn't have been kept under wraps so long.
