Alright, I was able to get through Lou. . . even had a bit of Lucy doing some mod dancing for me in the living room. . . . But I got an ixnay on further jazz so now it’s the Spectrum cable channel “Soundscapes” which is okay. . . the system stays on.

I've never heard that one, but I love the cover. . . .

My wife is home til maybe Wednesday, she was off yesterday too. My listening time is severely restricted. Snuck this on while she is in the other room on the computer on Facebook. Will see if I can get away with listening to it. . . . Lou Donaldson "The Time Is Right" Blue Note Japan "24 Bit by RVG" lp facsimile cd.

"Tribute" posted this on the Hoffman forum as well. He's a brave man, Tony. Well we knew that. He made a career out of jazz. That takes courage. . . .

Mine arrived an hour ago. A handsome set. I slipped in disc 2 and listened to most of it. . . (I wanted to hear some of these tunes). Very good sound, full-bodied, not overly bright. I think many will be quite happy to have this! -
Yes. . . it's a nice sounding release. Good stuff!
-
+1, this is an interesting and satisfying recording.

Claudia Villela "Encantada Live" . . . wow. . . this one again, it called out to me.

Disc 2 of this great concert recording. I need to rewatch the video again soon. I just love how Jamal and Lateef have matured and become these masters who use their incredible technical skills to lead and inspire and create an atmosphere and draw one into the music. The sound puts you right at the heart of the perfornance as well. Followed by Art Taylor, "a.t.'s Delight" this time on "24 bit by RVG" lp facsimile cd from Blue Note Japan. Followed by Miles Davis and Gil Evans "Porgy and Bess" Mobile Fidelity Lab SACD One SACD led to another, now playing 'The Soul of Ben Webster" on Analogue Productions SACD

Yes, my youngest brother is depressed about it. He is in the church choir, has been for a decade, and it has become part of his joy. He sings well, he is a past trumpeter and knows the music they sing well. Maybe he'll return to the trumpet. . . .

I also got a shipping notice today, though the tracking isn't active yet. (UPS) -
Claudia Villela "Encantada Live" . . . wow. . . this one just bursts out of the speakers! Followed by Ahmad Jamal/Yusef Lateef "Live at the Olympia" . . . another sonic spectacle.

"Steppin' Out" was reissued on cd less than a year ago by Universal Japan. And it's already probably hard to find!

Good suggestions. I love the Roulette material! I have those on US cds from the very earliest years of digital. I also used to have them in later a later European edition that condensed the three LPs onto two cds, but like the individual three disc scenario better. But a current Mosaic sonic upgrade, and the other material, would be great.

Now reading "Dawn behind the Dawn: A Search for the Earthly Paradise" Geoffrey Ashe

I definitely would buy it as well. And wait as patiently as I can for it to ship. . . . She was a FORCE.

It's a bit expanded and a slightly diffefent experience. I am due to re=read one of the versions of this soon. . . .
-
Was your version the "scroll" version? Both the original and the scroll version are fascinating reads.

Thanks!

I know that much. I just wonder about the predominance of Monk material. . . was this just "common knowledge"--we'll play these tunes because we know these Monk tunes, or was it a current emphasis of Allen's. . . or was the outing viewed as some sort of tribute. . . or was it just coincidence that there were so many Monk compositions featured in these performances.
-
Hey, we're all different. Monk is always alright for me, and Geri doing Monk is interesting in its own way. I wonder if this was originally intended to be a "plays Monk" album. (I haven't looked at the liner notes in over a decade or more).

A nice one indeed.

Yesterday I had a clinging not-feeling-so-well old dog on my lap a lot and didn't record what I listened to very much. But I had some very good music flowing through the system. Three that really struck me were: Bob Dylan "Blood on the Tracks" Test Pressing RSD release LP. This album is like a handful of great novels condensed onto two sides of an LP. Of course I love the original release, but these originally chosen tracks at an un-futzed with speed have their own forceful beauty. Eric Dolphy "Out to Lunch" Blue Note Universal Japan SHM-SACD. I have never heard this sound better, and I haven't heard this session in a while. Tony Williams' bass drum head! If only this had the alternates that were on the 75th Anniversary SHM-CD. Duke Ellington "Duke Ellington in Sweden 1973--featuring the Swedish Guests Alice Babs, Rolf Erikson, Ake Persson, Nils Lindberg"--I looked for this one on and off the last few weeks and found it had slipped behind one of my bookcases full of cds. I really like this concert late in the Duke's life. . . his piano playing in this period was often inspired and his love for Alice is clear from his announcements, and I'm a fan as well. This isn't the greatest recording but it is good enough, and the band seems to be enjoying the guest artists and the audience, and the audience is very enthusiastic. And some great playing, just overall what seems a historic night and we're fortunate to have it for our pleasure.
