  1. I've had a lap dog a bit under the weather the last few days and so haven't had a lot of room for my laptop to post what I'm listening to. Today she's feeling a bit better and I have a bit more room. Listened to "Capuchin Swing" by Jackie McLean, the Blue Note title on SACD from Analogue Productions. The title song is about as close to "Star Eyes" as you can get I guess and still be another tune! Then I switched gears and listened to the sceond disc of the third show in the June 1976 box set new from Grateful Dead. I switched gears to the Mosaic Set of "The Complete Woody Herman Decca, Mars and MGM Studio Sessions 1943-1954" disc 2 It occurred to me that Woody Herman would fit right in vocally with the Dead. . . . Now, Keith Jarrett and Charlie Haden's duo cd "Jasmine"
  2. You can buy the entire album on MP3 though via amazon. (Not that I did).

    Bob Dylan corner

I feel totally the opposite! Nashville Skyline does very little for me.
  4. Gosh I was just listening to a cd with him on it today. Sad news

    Bob Dylan corner

Over time I've come to appreciate all Dylan, and to like later Dylan more than the earliest. Self Portrait was the first album of his I bought, and then I bought Vol. 2 of Greatest Hits and liked the tracks with Traum best.
  6. Best title of an LP ever. Marty Grosz "Songs I Learned at my Mother's Knee and other Low Joints"
  7. "The Thelonious Monk Memorial Album" 2 LP set Milestone Records, LP 1
  8. "The Dixie Sound of Jack Teagarden" Roulette stereo LP. I like this so much that I'd like to have a mono copy. My stereo is a little noisy but once the music kicks in who cares!
  9. Ha! I guess I could at least listen to Carmen McRae sing Jimmy Rowles' song "The Ballad of Thelonious Monk." Right now Something completely different but happily so. Victor Assis Brasil, "Esperanto/Toca Antonio Carlos Jobim." Two very interesting albums from '70.
  10. I know I have this in my collection but just can't seem to find it. . . .
  11. The last two days I've been listening to SACDs I bought from Acoustic Sound's sale of Analogue Productions. Listened to these Blue Note titles: Joe Henderson "Page One" Big John Patton "Along Came John" Jackie McLean "Cappucin Swing" (I've never heard a better digital version of this title) Sonny Rollins "Vol. 2" And these Verve titles: Johnny Hodges "With Billy Strayhorn and Orchestra" West Montgomery with the Wynton Kelly Trio "Smoking' at the Half Note" Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges "Back to Back" Duke Ellington & Johnny Hodges "Side by Side" These Verve titles sound so f'in good that it sent me on a side trip of messing around with isolation to further refine the system sound. Other than Classic Records gold cds these are among the best mastered jazz discs I've ever heard. Now moving to one of the two RCA Living Stereo titles I bought: Jean Morel/Paris Conservatory Orchestra "Albeniz: Iberia/Ravel: Rapodie Espagnole" disc 1 Iberia is sounding fantastic.
  12. "Thinking of Home" has become a real favorite of mine this century. The sense of saudade is there and the performances are really tied strongly to the material and its moods.
  13. I have it. I like it. . . have to revisit it again soon, though that may mean an archaeological dig into my storage unit and won't happen soon. Sound is not stellar but decent enough.
  14. As far as I know Harold is fine. He has retired. His lovely wife passed away some years back and I know how hard that is. I think he's less active online. . . he does make an appearance now and then on Facebook. He occasionally plays out in the NYC/NJ area on bass.
  15. I don't feel these are substandard mixes, I feel they are carefully made mixes to achieve the intended effect--especially if we are talking about the originals if I guess we are. I grew up with these mixes, I like them, they are an interesting and integral part of the album for me. I agree with Kevin that it's possible a phase issue exists and certainly speaker placement might be experimented with to see if this makes the mixes seem less "substandard" (really I think they are just a little different than some others, and I believe mixed to be). But anyway if you can tinker and make them sound really good to you, wonderful. The remixes may also be a bit more tailored to the sonic positioning you're seeking. I just think calling them "substandard" is painting them incorrectly with a broad dismissive stroke. Just me!
  16. Okay. Whatever works for you! I can hear the music without that.
  17. Joe Henderson "Page One" Analogue Productions SACD. I don't know how many times I've bought this title. . . but this is one of the best sounding versions I have had.
  18. Hopefully most towns are.
  19. Are you referring to original LPs with original mixes? I honestly don't find the original mixes to hamper my enjoyment of these sessions in any way and in fact prefer to listen to the originals rather than remixes. They seem to be creative statements these original mixes, a part of the artistic nature and charm of the albums. I love the music. That said I don't have the "no eq, no futzing, direct only" mindset of many audiophiles I encounter and my equipment does allow me to play with EQ and present a forward or laid back sonic perspective etc.
  20. That just seems a waste. I was semi-Luddite and hesitated a long time to move to PayPal but once I did I realized the safety and convenience. I still send and accept checks myself, but it's a rare thing. I would encourage you to try setting up a PayPal account. . . . Better to get a few dollars than have all that land in a landfill. I would have bought from you. . . but I had all the items you wanted to sell with one exception where the price was just over my limit for that item. Best of luck L!
  21. Yes, that Japanese cd is very good sounding! (As are almost every one in that reissue series in my opinion).
  22. "Joya Sherrill Sings Duke"
  23. "The music of Bob Zieff" Fresh Sound 2 cd set
  24. Yesterday I had "vibes." I started my listening to this cd by Betty Roche "Take the A Train" on Solid Records/Bethlehem originally. It has Eddie Costa on vibes which is an automatic reason to buy any album. And I moved from there to Gary Burton's "New Vibes in Town" on Sony Japan cd, and then moved on to Jay Hoggard's "Fountain" on Muse cd. Had to revisit Betty today though. . . Betty Roche "Take the A Train"
