The first batch is not released until February 10. So unlikely anyone here has seen or heard these yet. My guess is that these will feature the mastering in the SHM-CD series, which I find very good.

I'm not crazy about Jorma's singing but can take it, Jack is always worth it, I do like me some country blues and dug Papa John (especially after I saw him perform). So there you go, I'm a Hot Tuna guy. They included some of the elements that JA didn't in my early to mid-seventies listening world.
-
Can't stand the Jefferson Starship, any of the albums or singles. But I liked the early Hot Tuna at the time and learned this century to like the other 'seventies albums by Hot Tuna. But I play guitars and basses and they are fun to play along to.
-
I like them all, and Paul and Grace's joint albums, and of course Blows Against the Empire. However I've never been able to get into Jeferson Starship. I do like Paul probably most of that batch but still. . . .

The 100, second episode of the season. I find this show entertaining.

Just a quick note: "Paul Kantner and Jefferson Starship" (NOT "Jefferson Starship") were responsible for "Blows Against the Empire" and it was recorded in 1970 while the Jefferson Airplane was in full flight. Likewise "Sunfighter" was also recorded while the Jefferson Airplane was firmly together, and was not a "Jefferson Starship" album, but a release from "Paul Kantner and Grace Slick" in 1971. Rather than "Jefferson Starship" it might be better to refer to these two albums as done by the "Planet Earth Rock and Roll Orchestra". . . . "Jefferson Starship" as a group was quite different from either of the ensembles that created those two albums, and the first of the "Jefferson Starship" groups formed around 1974.

I don't think he was famous for playing guitar or singing, probably better known for his writing and his "concepts." That said I thought he played decent rhythm guitar and sang okay. RIP Paul.

It's his non-boppish drumming I most cherish, such as that on Miles Davis "Live/Evil." I would put him about four on my list as well, behind Williams, Jones and Clarke.

Starting to rewatch Californication the Final Season on DVD.

I get that. But there's been a planned use of jazz inclusion in other albums Kasami and others have appeared on that certainly may not be the same "planned agenda" but may be a bit similar. . . . Despite Allen's lack of jealousy (which I believe I guess) I do think there's some jealousy in some reactions (not saying here) to this release. I think I'll pull it out of the shelves and put it into the listening pile again, I like it.

I just finished watching the second episode of the new X-Files. I almost gave up after the first episode, but the second was a distinct improvement!

We're far away from discussing G.A.'s original suggestion.

Mosaic's forthcoming James P. Johnson set

Hope mine arrives soon! -
You think a Rega RP3 is "a very expensive unit?" That's funny. Look, think whatever you want, but Rega is a business that sells three or four tiers of tables, to differing price points. All manufacturers do something like this. That someone cares enough to help users climb the ladder incrementally or to even get a better table than the next level up the Rega line by doing upgrades themselves for a lesser total price than the next model (which is what I feel happens) is a testimony to the quality of the sound and design of the Rega, which is also testified to by the many users out there who are loyal and climb the upgrade ladder by buying a new Rega or upgrading their own. Just as no audio brand or sound is for everyone, the Rega may not please everyone. When I heard the RP3 I stopped looking at other tables though, I like the Rega sound and design and ease of use. If you like another table fine, I just don't buy your "Rega is being dishonest" line.

Indeed, it's nice to have the upgrade path to move along as you can or want to. I did mine in three different batches, and each was an incremental improvement and the final result is quite good.
