  1. I haven't heard the set, or most of the original release of this material. . . on the Hoffman board most seem pleased with this new two cd set.
  2. Finally watched the first episode of Amazon's "Man in the High Castle" . . .interesting. Different vibe than the novel, as expected.
  3. This is just typical of the Japanese market, and is being done FOR that market, not any other.
  4. Oddly I have never gotten into Cohen and love Dylan. I don't own a single Springsteen recording. We're all different. We live in a great time when so much is available no matter our tastes.
  5. There is no "Creed Taylor Collection," just that one box set. One very nice box set.
  6. Me too. I think I may have all his work.
  7. My only real beef is plastic toothed inserts in digipaks. They are often broken, and they are irreparable. ARGH.
  8. I'll be starting Season One on disc soon. Looking forward to it.
  9. I find that interesting as well. I like the album, I feel about it about the same way HP does, and wouldn't have expected "folks shaking and dancing on the floor." Cool!
  10. I'll live! So much to watch.
  11. I lost power and couldn't record Fargo, so I have to wait a week til it's rebroadcast. I love Ruth Wilson and watched the first season of The Affair. And then I became engaged to a woman who reminds me some of Ruth, and who had been betrayed for years by a husband who is no longer her husband, and I felt it was best for me not to watch a show called The Affair. . . she wouldn't dig it. So no season 2 for me. I've started the final season of Sons of Anarchy on Blu-ray. I saw it on broadcast. . .very violent season.
  12. Jim, I saw a brief clip on the news Friday of the funeral for Ms Gonzales, and they showed a somber, distinguished man playing a tribute on a beautiful guitar. I couldn't help but think of you. Paris, followed by a far lesser but still tragic Pasadena event. . . . Lots of sadness in the world. (S.O.P, right).
  13. Yes, but both those (and the Holiday) were just budget repackaging of previous sets Columbia had put out. I'm not holding my breath for Ellington in that manner.
  14. Episodes of "Jay Leno's Garage" . . . a good show. Final half of the final season of Breaking Bad on Blu-ray. Though I think they tied things a little too prettily in a bow at the very end, GRIPPING TV. I hadn't watched any of the last eight episodes since it was broadcast.
  15. Some chai I made up. 6 oz water, 6 oz whole milk, heaping tablespoon loose chai tea, simmered for about five minutes. YUM.
  16. I have the three disc and the two disc Japanese SHM-CD version. The notes for the two cd are the same with the exception of the notes about the live version, and the photos and the music sheet reproduction are there but of course in the small jewel case booklet size.
  17. I'll say this: I've listened to the set three times since I received it, and it's probably the first item I've read all the liner notes on in a long time. It rekindled my interest in ALS.
  18. Finally finished reading/studying "James the Brother of Jesus." Man what a book. Back on Parker novels
  19. That's nice. Looking forward to it.
  20. Good news. I opted for the Japanese version and have to wait a bit to hear it but plenty to listen to in the meantime. I think WR and The Pretenders are the two bands I've seen the most in my life, and I'm always game for live W R!
  21. Nothing previously unissued in this set. I think that this set includes all the live Monk released so far. I have not idea what really might remain of these recordings. . . its possible not much was recorded at Brandeis for example. This is likely all we will get for now.
  22. Well, I'm a fan of RVG mastering for the most part, and I think this new set has superior sound to that two cd Deluxe release.
  23. Additional tracks on the second cd of the Newport set in this box that you haven't mentioned are listed as from the soundtrack.
  24. The others are from "Straight No Chaser--The Motion Picture Soundtrack". . . .
  25. Depending on which "prior CD release" you mean, or imo probably whichever you mean, yes, I feel the sound quality is superior on this new release. And no, it's not the same sound on the live disc, it's mastered differently (this one is by Kevin Reeves, the former by Rudy Van Gelder). Mine was very well packed by amazon.com and arrived unblemished.
