Richard Stark, "The Rare Coin Score" (a Parker novel).

According to the "reviews" this set has the '63 recordings. http://www.amazon.com/Bartok-Julliard-String-Quartet-Bartók/dp/B000P6RB88/ref=sr_1_13?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1438346466&sr=1-13&keywords=bartok+string+quartets

Doesn't appear to be a Universal release, but a "gray area" release from "Poll Winner Records," probably has another lp tacked on (John Dennis maybe, Hazel Scott, something like that?) CDjapan says it's not a Japanese release so I looked around and found this: http://www.happinetonline.com/NASApp/mnas/MxMProduct?Action=prd_detail&KIND=0&SHOP_ID=1&PRODUCT_ID=4526180356196 It might be the a repress of this "Poll Winners" which is also "+8" , , , including John Mehegan tracks from Savoy and Teddy Charles tracks from Atlantic. http://www.amazon.com/Mingus-Three-MINGUS-CHARLES/dp/B004C9PA1Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1438294367&sr=1-1&keywords=Charles+Mingus+3

Not sure I can see what end that would have if it were my intention. It's not. I'm just loving this series, and don't know what more to say about this installment. . . I've learned to hate collecting bootlegs and want more of this great music as official releases. I know they could never crank them out fast enough for me, but I'm hoping for more. We'll probably see another next year.
-
No, just my eagerness for the next in this series.
-
I understand too S. What puzzled me was leading off with the second disc sounding not good. . . I have had this material in boot form and I was really impressed with the sound of it on this set, this is the disc I've listened to most since getting the set, love the music and very happy with the sound. Mono, but mono doesn't bother me; you can hear everyone well. Ready for Vol. 5!
-
Thanks for the heads up!
-
Well, I guess I'm a bit more tolerant of the sound quality (in particular I think that the second disc sounds really good!) but I would expect the sort of sound quality the '73 offers in this series, it's an official release of booted material, I'm not expecting professionally recorded sound. And I don't think the price is disproportionately expensive, I paid a reasonable price for this, and each of the four releases so far; I don't have complaints about this when it cost me for four discs about what I would pay for two new releases. I think this one is a bit different as it has the two decades of Newport appearances theme, the others have been more focused and for the most part similar throughout in sound quality. But I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to the next.

Personally, I was impressed with the sound quality, especially considering the bootleg version I've heard. Come on Vol. 5!

This week's Hannibal. The DVR cut the last five minutes or so as the Indians game seems to have run late. ARGH. I've adjusted the end time. On to Humans.

Not a chicken, but of the two seats I have none are really comfortable for her for long rides (which I love to take). The woman. . .has very little in the posterior area and needs a big plush motorcycle seat. I have ample padding of my own in that area I guess, I love hard, slim seats. So. . . til I afford and affix the proper seat, Lucy doesn't ride that often with me.

The '55 material sounds a lot better on the Sony than the JMY I have to me, the same can be said of the "66 and '67 to the version I have, which is not the Wolfgang. So I'm pleased, nice to have these all under one roof, nice to have official releases. I can see why some are against this release, and they are allowed their displeasure, but I've enjoyed every release in this series and hope it continues. Wonder what will be next? I'm actually hoping for more bootleg "acoustic Miles."

I'm not a camera person p. But summertime in Ohio is almost worth putting up with the awful winters for!
-
Well, it's a bootleg series, so containing bootleg material is hardly objectionable in my opinion. I can see arguing about the previously released official material, but the '55 was not released officially before and not in this sound, and the '66 and '67 are more complete and in much better sound than I had before. I may be easy to please but I'm happy to have this just for these reasons. Anyway, I'm looking forward to Vol.5 now. . . !
-
After a week plus off the saddle while moving I had a few glorious hours riding yesterday and it was a blast. Ohio in the summer can be so beautiful, and when you only ride half the year or so it seems that much more magical!

Coltrane and Cherry's "The Avant Garde" and Kirk's "Inflated Tear" were also in this series.

Wasn't necessarily referring to this thread, I was referring to many threads on many boards. . . I read elsewhere on the internet, and I was also directly responding to Len's comment about the Miles list.
-
I don't see myself that way.

People are free to like or dislike what they want to. I like this release, it does contain a lot of material that has been "out" before legitimately and illegitimately, but the previous bootleg material has never sounded like this in my holdings and I'm glad to have it all under one roof so to speak. I find more and more negativity online among music postings and I'm spending less time online as a result. Looking forward to Volume 5 no matter what it is, and the next Dylan Bootleg Series items.
-
I am glad I'm not a record producer etc.--you can hardly please anyone at all these days, so much negativity.
-
I can have the luxury of hoping for new versions, ideally a series of smaller box sets, from Legacy--because I own the Centennial box. I don't know what to expect, perhaps a series of budget sets . . . or just downloads down the road.

New Lester Young set from Mosaic Records coming
jazzbo replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
You will have the vast majority of it. As mentioned above, the Savoy recordings are not included. Also, there are essential early small group recordings made for Commodore and Columbia (Kansas City Six sessions). Then there are the Jubilee sessions, and, of course, his work with Teddy Wilson / Billie Holiday. Thanks, John. I have the Holiday sides, of course. Odd that the first Mosaic didn't include the KC6 sessions. Savoy and Jubilee -- what would be a good source for those? The Savoy and Jubilee sides did not fall into the same record company umbrella as the material in the first set, or this upcoming set, and thus were not included. My favorite versions of the Savoy material appear on cds from Savoy/Denon . . . though the American branch (Savoy on Warner Bros.) two cd version is more compact and affordable. A search on Amazon for "Lester Young Savoy" will show most if not all cd options. -
I'm hoping they have "other plans" but that's just my personal hope for the reason.
-
There's no way they could have had the entire concert without an additional disc. . . and this series seems built around four cd sets. They could have not included it at all, might have been better, but they wanted to get a representation of Newport shows from the start to Miles' "retirement" and they never claimed it would be "complete." I'm okay with what they did, probably won't listen to this excerpt of '75 often but the rest of the set is excellent imo.
