I have the Pike's Peak on the Blu-Spec 2 cd and I really like this session. Sound is great on this release.

I got "String Along," "Ad-Lib" and the Lockjaw in yesterday; they sound excellent.

I don't remember seeing any of these sets ever on Legacy's site. . . . -

Agreed. These seem to be handled by the European Sony folk, and they seem to have no promotional department. Crisp, you're welcome. Hope they are released on the 18th as listed; some places say October 30. -
Mine was received today, listening to disc 1 right now. Sounds as I would expect it to, knowing the lps and also Addey's mastering work. That is it sounds quite good!

Yes. To be honest, I think I've seen all those before.

I'd love that. Heck I'd settle (maybe even prefer) just a redoing of the French series of cds "1947 to 1952" --- that is killer stuff that needs to be in print in excellent sound and well-annotated. Doubt we'll see either of our wishes in a Sony set though. -

Yeah, for the most part I've been blessed af finding these at decent prices, and I've learned in the last decades to buy what I might be interested in early, as things disappear and or increase largely in price when you put them off for a year or two. I did pay full price for a few of these box sets as a result, but glad I got them and enjoyed them from the start. These have been my go to way of listening to the material, it's just easier to pull out the box and listen to a few discs than track down the separate discs in my shelves, and it's a space saver to have the box and give away a number of these discs. Forgot about the Shorter box. Those were improved in sound, especially "Native Dancer," which is the one I most listen to. I understand the "not upgrading" and wish I could follow such a policy with some firmness on my end. But... I find that I can hear significant differences in masterings, and I'm not one of those who prefer the sound of earlier masterings, I find for the most part improvements in the sound, easy to hear, that have led me to go for remasteings more often than not. Sigh. This is an expensive hobby, but it's easier on my liver than booze! -

Yes, I'm pretty certain that Homecoming is remastered in the Gordon box, all the material I believe is, sounds better than on the earlier discs. And there's also a bonus disc of material gathered from various lp and disc sources. The Getz box also has newly mastered material, and sounds fantastic. Matters not to me if you buy any of these, but they're great bargains, and consolidating all these materials with consistent mastering and additional material is a boon to my collection, and has allowed me to give away nice discs to new jazz listeners. I love the Ellington material so much that this new set was a no brainer for me to order for the above reasons.. -

No, "Let my Children," was not (but imo it sounds better in the box set for whatever reason), though IIRC the "With Friends" was. In the case of the first Ellington earlier masterings were updated, and I would expect the same (especially the Schapp) to be the case in this one. In the case of the Shaw, Gordon, WR, Brubeck, Mahavishnu, etc. there have been new masterings, and in some cases additional material. A great series. I would think at the least this Monk box will bring together the bonus material from newer reissues, and perhaps additional material that"Mysterioso" was assembled from. I think there will be room, and it would be nice if there were bonus material here added. Hopefully the little snippets Mosaic released on vinyl will be added too. -

There has been quite a few remasterings occur within these box sets, and like John I think they sound excellent. Thanks for the headsup about the Monk and Blakey sets Flurin! Now I hope they get around to live Brubeck Quartet! -
I don't do Netflix so I won't see Season Four for some time, but I watched the first three seasons of Longmire since broadcast and really like it. Especially the third season. I finished Season 3 of Heroes. . . will move on to Season 4 soon. Been watching a lot of shows Lucinda likes, and having fun with them, especially Psychic Detectives.

It probably will be cheaper, but 52 bucks is a good price. I went for it. . . some of these could stand to be remastered and probably will be in this box. -

Amazon UK has the second "Complete Columbia Albums" set of Duke Ellington releases '59 to '61 for about 52 bucks shipped, ten discs. No other information on this other than it is released in six days. -
Mingus Complete Birdland Broadcasts

I haven't heard this version, but I've heard several and the sound is rough on all versions I've heard. You can hear what you need to, but they're not great recordings (private, unofficial ones). -
CJ, I think all the 75th anniversary series use new masterings. There was discussion of a "budget" reissue batch that came out this year that used older masterings, these were not SHM-CD.

Re-reading this tome. For me a fascinating work.

Started on Heroes Season 3, I like this show more than some I guess, and I'm glad it's coming back "Reborn." Also got caught up on "Hell on Wheels" and watched some episodes of "Car Matchmaker," which is a fun show.

I've checked this out before, and the answer is the same, so it's probably accurate: "Rock around the Clock," Bill Haley and the Comets.
