  1. Thanks guys!
  2. Gatemouth's is still today (at least over here across the 'Lantic!) Thanks Flurin!
  3. Thanks gentlemen. mj, I don't think there will be much fun, but I had a lot of fun on Saturday and Sunday morning with Lucinda, she went all out to make it a special time, and it sure was! That was my real birthday celebration.
  4. Thanks guys. My 58th year was in some ways my worst, so I'm hoping for a better 59th.
  5. Happy birthday to the MAN!
  6. Thanks everyone! Birthday started early as I got a call at 2:45 to rush over to my parents and help out with a little "situation." Sigh. Won't be doing anything special today, don't really have time off and did my celebrating on Saturday evening when I celebrated with lovely Lucinda. Appreciate the well wishes and will try to have a nice day.
  7. LOL. Yeah, I know there are ways. Ways I don't travel. I'll see if it comes out on disc later on.

C'mon Allen. All the stuff you sling and you're upset about this, and I bet very few or anyone here is insulting you in the way you seem to feel or harbor any dislike or ill will towards your musical efforts.

    Word.
  10. Dang. I'll find a way to watch this in time (not doing Netflix, etc.) Watched the first three episodes of "Rush" (USA network). 'S alright.

  12. Cool. 8/25 gets closer day by day.
  13. Yes, Jim, thanks, and to the Sheriff too.

    Norah Jones

I don't find her phrasing on what might be jazz I've heard her play to be that terrible, but we all have different ideas. She sings jazz better than I do! Scott, I think that Blue Note has not been exclusively a jazz label this century. It's a broader brand now.

    Norah Jones

I don't think they bother to think that any longer. She doesn't have to be crossed-over or under or anything any longer, she's just able to do what she wants.

Here's a photo sans cowboy boots. Name is sort of funny. Man, Norah is a beauty.
  17. I have the cd (don't do downloads or Spotifiy). It's a nice one. Danny D'Imperio got me onto Nistico many years ago by his recommendation, and sharing some personal experiences. What a shame we lost him when we did.
  18. Absolutely right Andrew. What a musical drummer. R.I.P. Frankie.
  19. R.I.P. you monster.
  20. These are available to order but not coming out until October 22.
  21. Yes, I have several original pressings, one of which I haven't battered too much over the years, and it does sound wonderful. The 40th anniversary sounds very close to that to me on my system, and is a great pressing. I wouldn't hesitate to try the Mobile Fidelity though if I did not have several wonderful lp sets to listen to already. I'm a bit fanatical about this recording because it was an eye- and ear-opening one for me at the beginning of the 'seventies and has remained an important part of my listening world. I have a handful of cd versions, and both the Sony SACD releases (they seem pretty identical, one is a hybrid, one is not). They are the remix, as is the Blu-Spec 2 cd version I've recently picked up that sounds phenomenal. I have one Sony cd set that is the original mix, as is the copy in the Complete Album Collection. The one I listen to the least is the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions box set. And I have the first US cd version which actually sounds listenable if you reverse the polarity, believe it or not. I'm sure the Mobile Fidelity SACD will sound very good, and I want the original mix on SACD. Their previous Miles Davis SACDs have sounded excellent. I love this music!
  22. I think it's totally unnecessary to have to know in detail tons about the music we listen to. If we hear it and enjoy it, understand it enough to do so, then fine and dandy. We don't have to pretend to be some genius savant on the internet, and even if we did want to, in depth knowledge is not really necessary for that either! I'm content to move along listening to things and determining what I like, and feeding music to my Dad, who knows what he likes and is informed enough to enjoy it and look forward to hearing more. I read a little here and there, but I'm not going to immerse myself in books about classical music.
