  1. I don't expect a lot of the saxophonists in these bands, Grossman has never really disappointed me, and I do believe he is better on the material edited out of the official release. In this band it's more about Miles and the keyboardists in my opinon, and i've always loved the unrestrained Jarrett and Corea in these shows. In your shoes perhaps it's best to wait til there are some decent samples to hear? I have been listening to "At Fillmore so long, four decades, I just can't be objective or imagine what it would be like to hear this material for the first time.
  2. I guess it would boil down to how much you like this band. I loved "At Fillmore" so much when I first discovered it in the 'seventies and beyond, there is no question I am going to get this set. In fact I decided to order the Japanese Blu-spec 2 edition, since I've been waiting for these unedited shows for so long, I'm going to splurge on a special edition.
  3. "You Don't Know What Love Is" sung and played by Eliane Elias from her Chet Baker tribute cd, "I Thought About You." It got me. It's a lonely time.
  4. I hope so too. I think the Buck foundation has problems. Their owner was old and is now gone. They had certain pace to their releases that slowed down and down and down. . . . NOT the best climate for big box sets of pre-tape material that needs a lot of work to sound their best. They could have concentrated on licensing, and I hope that Revenant and White can get their work fully licensed.
  5. Right, this one is a bolt-on, but his standard "GT" model is a neck through, and he's building one for me. I'm making this a jazz-centric guitar pickup wise, and having it set up for Black Diamond "Pure Jazz" strings, which I really really like. Looks like this before pickup changes.
  6. I'd like to hear the sounds of anti-audiophile silence.
  7. Dusty Groove got more in. Da Bastids!
  8. MANY happy returns!

    Bob Dylan corner

yeah ... I guess the bigger point is whether an artist like Dylan should be a pitch man for a car company. You may be right that the issue was more about spending some money on imports and do your big buy at home, but I got the impression that he was saying Germans make better beer, the Swiss make better watches, the Asians make better phones, but we Americans make better cars. About the beer, I would have totally agreed with that statement 30 years ago... it is no longer true. Not that German beer isn't marvelous.... it would be stupid to say it isn't. I guess what he said could be taken that way. In this soundbite world I think ambiguity is part of the game and works to their advantage. They just want you to buy cars and they don't care about the rest. Or to put it negatively, You gotta Buy from Somebody You can buy German Beer You can buy Swiss Watches You can buy Asian Phones But YOU DON'T HAVE TO buy Import Cars
  10. So far I haven't seen the US be significantly cheaper. I've been paying about 14 for the Japanese (from American sites so no high shipping) and 11 or 12 for the US. So I am going for the Roadrunners while I can.
  11. Good advice. I have a mono switch on my preamp and hadn't thought to try that.

I think the whole point of "let Germany" and "let Asia" at least as far as Chrysler's concerned is "let those countries have your little purchase and give the big bucks to us." Naturally they would want that. I wish Bob hadn't said them but it doesn't bother me, Americans just do whatever they want with their money. Personally I don't think he wrote much of that script.
  13. I wasn't necessarily confused, just clarifying. Now you make me want to order Meditations. Thanks a lot!
  14. Indeed. I wasn't inferring that I had a problem with that.
  15. I think it's going to be the 2006 versions, as that is what is on the previous Blu-Spec (not Blu-Spec 2). But I haven't been able to find anywhere specifically saying which mastering, or a good enough picture of one of the obis.
  16. The Japanese have probably been remastering the same tapes they were sent decades ago.
  17. Okay, thanks. I'm not certain Jim isn't on there. The seller indicates in that page that the second disc of SCRS 9720/1 is indeed the long one. Wouldn't imagine that would be incorrect.
  18. I found this evidence on a for sale thread at Steve Hoffman: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/miles-davis-agharta-2-cd-set-japan-obi-dsd-mastering-master-sound.317419/
  19. I would tend to trust Losin. That said, i have a Japanese two cd version with the extended second disc, but can't say offhand which of these two it is right now definitively, and don't know where in the chaos of my system it is exactly at present. I'm 90 percent certain it is the other one. If I stumble across it I'll update you. . . but it might take some time as I spend so little time at my own place and when I do I always seem to have somthing to do. . . .
  20. Long version of disc 2 also avialable on SCRS 9720/1 http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=Agharta-CD3
  21. Pete Losin's site is very useful for this, shows timings on the five releases listed. http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?d=7
  22. Thanks! I suspect I will. I've been wanting to revisit these with some repeated listenings, and this widens the experience. And in the following post even more valuable information. Thanks again.
  23. ArtSalt, I think you hit the nail on the head here as to why there is so much disuccion of the sound of Blue Note digital releases.
