Yes, Allegro shows February 11. I couldn't resist ordering (though at a bigger expense) from amazon.co.uk and received it last week. Very nice! Even includes numbers by "the Mellotones"! Good sound.

I'm aware that wikipedia is often incorrect as almost anyone can add information. I've read this same information about the song elsewhere, so I believe it's true.

Hope it was a great one and many happy returns!

Really a great bossa nova jazz album. pagE, it's interesting that Jobim wrote both the Portuguese and English words to Waters of March, which was not always the case at all. And the text is not identical in the two languages, as he left out some bits of Brazilian cultural items in the English version. Interesting note form wkiipedia: When writing the English lyrics, Jobim endeavored to avoid words with Latin roots, which resulted in the English version having more verses than the Portuguese. Nevertheless, the English version still contains some words from Latin origin, such as promise, dismay, plan, pain, mountain, distance and mule. Another way in which the English lyrics differ from the Portuguese is that the English version treats March from the perspective of an observer in the northern hemisphere. In this context, the waters are the "waters of defrost" in contrast to the rains referred to in the original Portuguese, marking the end of summer and the beginning of the colder season in the southern hemisphere.

Ellington as Pianist

Interesting. Nice assertion that all three styles existed from the beginning. -
Woody Shaw - Complete Muse Recordings on Mosaic
jazzbo replied to J.A.W.'s topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
To answer Headman's questions in another thread: I think the booklet is quite informative really, a good read. The sound is a bit improved from the Gene Paul mastered 32 jazz reissues and the original Muse cds. In my opinion. -
Will look forward to seeing this.

There is a difference caused by the resolution. In my opinion a high resolution recording (in this case especially heard in 24/96 as opposed to 24/48 through the DAC) has an edge over the same mastering in Redbook. In this instance I'm not sure this is the same mastering, it says it is by Reeves, not Van Gelder, and doesn't exactly sound the same.

Well, I think A Love Supreme sounds really good on this Blu-ray, as does the Miles. Getting a great Blu-ray player has really paid off for me in enjoyment. I got a Denon 100th Anniversary at about 40 percent of the listed price when they first came out. It's an amazing machine.

Well, two things. Like any musical offering. . . you're sort of at the mercy of the mastering. I've bought two of the new Universal Blu-ray Pure Audio discs, A Love Supreme (which has the same material as the Deluxe Edition) and the Miles Davis Ascenseur pour l'echafaud. Both sound pretty good because of the mastering is pretty good. I've heard that many others in the series are not as good because of compression or other apsects of the mastering. I have some concert blu-rays that sound really good. One other thing to consider is the quality of the player. Running digital out to a DAC you are limited by copyright to only 24/48 as the best. You can get 24/96 or 24/192 out of your player but a lot of the players I tried the 24/48 to the DAC sounded a bit better because the analog stage of the player isn't as up to the task as the DAC's. I finally invested in a Blu-ray player that has a great sound of its own and the audio out is worth it, a bit better than that from the DAC in the chain. Not dramatically, but depending on the sound quality and mastering, better.

I had a dedicated room for years that was smaller than I wanted it to be. It worked, but as you say if you're going to go for it go bigger. Especially if you're going to have a surround system. I've never have wanted to have one of them, but I do know they work better with space. I don't have a choice now, I'm here for my parents to keep them in their home, sold my own house where I had a wonderful room to live in with my system, and now have an L-shaped living room dining room set up with at least tall ceilings and am in a near-field set up again. My equipment makes this great listening anyway, but it's not all it can be. But I only have about three hours to five hours a day to myself in my own place anyway, for the near future, by necessity of my care-giving duties. This is the hardest job I've ever had, and no pay, no days off, not even weekends. Sigh. Good thing i'm tough.

I have them in a shoe box room right now and bless the fact that I have them, they're an important asset for me. They make the best of a less than ideal situation. I have been so happy since I got the second one and all my audio video equipment is so effectively and elegantly housed.

I have two different finishes on mine. One is a pewter automotive paint actually, looks amazing. The other is a maple finish which matches my Mapleshade Samson racks very well. Yes, they combine the conventional front-firing speaker with the radial-dispersion driver. I have a pair of their ERR speakers which only use radial dispersion. They are amazing on some material, they need a larger room though than I have currently and they are doing very good duty in my father's system driven by a 2 watt Decware amp and preamp. On all three of these speakers I can hear differences in speaker wire.
-
I'm using these speakers. I now have a pair in both systems. They work fantastically with my Decware amps and preamps. http://www.decware.com/newsite/HR1.html

No, I have two of these "Duos" in use, one in each of my systems. http://www.musicdirect.com/p-139699-ps-audio-pwd-perfectwave-dac-mkii-pwt-memory-player-promotion.aspx The transport feeding the DAC Mk II via HDMI yields the best Redbook I've ever heard.

Sigh. I've read all that before over and over. But my experience has led to different conclusions. And so have others. I haven't closed my mind to the possibility that there is more to it than what you describe. Enjoy your DAC. I love mine, and it sounds even better when fed clean power.
-
Sorry, I meant to address this earlier. I actually have to disagree with this. Having recently learned this first hand, a dedicated DAC should be THE first and foremost investment if you're looking to improve your sound quality. Of course, that doesn't apply if all you're listening to is LPs or reel-to-reel, but if you're using any form of digital media a dedicated DAC is a miracle worker. Well, I disagree. I find that digital products really benefit from clean power. But that's neither here nor there because you have your own ideas and I have mine.

Watched the Blu-ray of Season Five (the final one, darn it) of Fringe. That San Diego Comic Con panel (bonus feature) is awesome.

I personally am not saying that science sucks. But I'm saying that science is never comprehensive and is always being challenged. It's quite conceivable to me that what seems not possible is just not fully understood. And I also think that some persons just can't hear changes that others can. Some of us are supposed to believe we hear what we supposedly shouldn't be able to hear. What if these other persons can't hear what others do hear? I certainly know there are some things I can't do or perceive that others can. But I also know that I and some others hear things others claim they can't. Why automatically should that mean I or we can't? Anyway, I don't believe in paying silly money for cabling, but I may have a wider definition of "silly money" than others, and I find real value, real improvement with cabling and power and isolation treatment. Whether it's a value, or one worth pursuing, is a personal decision. I have a friend who feels it is worth it to him to spend hundreds of dollars on alcohol a month. To me, that's literally pissing money away that could be used on other things. But to him it's a pathway to a heightened enjoyment of some of his time. That's they way improving a stereo system seems to me as an investment.

Thanks, I just picked up the Tresors set.

And since this article was written he has become a featured player on SNL.

Scott, your second-hand science is more faith-resembling to me than my own hands-on experiential knowledge. But you can continue to feel superior with your "science" if you wish. To me much of "science" is as religious in nature as religion. But whatever, I don't see any use trying to talk any further. But don't forget to pat yourself on the back for saving the many from folly! Kevin, threads evolve. But I don't want to talk about power cords or regeneration or conditioning here either, other than as I did to say that I feel it's the first place to start with many systems.
-
Post of the week! Not only do you come off as feeling superior, and patting yourself on the back, but you insult Christianity too! Way to go! Kevin: I think Monster Cable, especially at the lower end, is drab and rip-off stuff. . . not really a fair tool to use. But whatever. Attention to power to components is really the last place I paid attention, and really wish it had been the first. That has made the most profound difference to me, and allowed me to evaluate other cabling etc. more accurately and easily.
-
Okay sure sounded like you were being superior, came off that way, and you seemed so proud you don't spend money on wire. I get that you think the science shows what you think it shows. I just think the science isn't complete about it all. I've done experiments and had fun with it and found that some wire makes a bigger difference than it "should" and have accepted the improvement. And enjoy the improvement. And am probably not done experimenting. I trust my own experience more than anything else. There's my stance in a nutshell. I don't believe it's wishful thinking or in my mind. I actually wish wire didn't matter. I'd invite anyone who thinks they may hear some improvements to experiment. If you feel there's no improvement possible, stick with what you have.
