  1. Listened to a few of the Savoy sessions last night. RIP Frank.
  2. No SACDs in this set, all Redbook cds. But I believe they use the mastering that is on the hybrid Living Stereo cds for the appropriate discs. Sound is really good on this set, the earliest material sounds here (to me) as if it were actually recorded a decade or two later.
  3. A milkshake made for my Dad and I with this DELICIOUS ice cream. All their flavors are excellent, but the strawberry seems to have just a little bit of magic.
  4. Hope it was a great one!
  5. My youngest brother and sister-in-law (both musicians and classical music lovers) will be receiving the Rubinstein box for Xmas thanks to that great importcds deal, got it in yesterday and it made me dig mine out and spin a few discs until way too late last night.
  6. I've bought three of these (favorites of mine: Soul Station, True Blue, Tom Cat.) They all sound excellent, the best I've heard these titles in digital format. The mattering is excellent, and the care in the manufacturing may also be a contributing factor.
  7. Yeah, I just realized that would be nice to have to complete the Monk material, and an amazon marketplace seller had it at a decent price, so. . . . I should stop right there.
  8. Many many more happy ones!
  9. "And the rest is history" !!!!
  10. Many happy happy returns Chris!
  11. Cool Stuart. Man, Hejira hooked me right when it was released and is among the few that I will pull out and listen to these days. I think it's the storytelling and the particular "confessional" style and ideas, that has always resonated with me. The lp sounds really good on my system!
  12. Thanks for the reports you two. I had some points at cdjapan so I ordered the two Shorters, the two Monks, and the Adderley for a good total price. Of all those offered, these would be the ones I would want in the best sound. Will have to wait but will be worth it.
  13. That was a great "The Good Wife." Shook everything up!
  14. Well, he's not a blind buy for me either, but I was familiar with the material in this Select from lps and liked most of it, and learned to like the remainder more on repeated listenings. Didn't realize it is no longer in print until just now. Yes, Richards did the compositions and arrangements (pretty sure) for Adventures in Time.
  15. Yes, I don't think any of the sets included liner notes. (John may be saying that they're needed though not included in any of the sets.)
  16. TTK, I would have thought you would have the Johnny Richards.
  17. I'm a Prime member this year, helping Amazon to take over the world and ruin every other little business. (Soon it will be like "Eenie meanie minie mo" and all the "meanies" and "mod" will be gone.)
  18. Have a wonderful day!
  19. Many happy happy returns Guy!
  20. How lucky they are! I've been transforming my parents' system with better components. Luckily the beautiful cherry wood cabinet Dad had built in '62 is still doing its part as are the EV full range speakers (reconed in the 'eighties) inside.
  21. I've been enjoying this set, my Dad too.
  22. The way I see it is summed up in this sentence: Michael Cuscuna is very supportive of the work of Hank Mobley.
  23. Yes, quite a few have "sold out" by "timing out." And a few I don't know why they went out of print, such as the VeeJay ones.
  24. This is my first winter in Ohio in 32 years. It already snowed, rode my Fat Bob home through the wet snow earlier this week, was sort of fun. But I know I'll be very tired of snow very soon.
  25. I am pretty sure that's the only Brooks version there was! That was an early one for me too, I remember it blowing me away. I got all of it on cd eventually and sold it. Now I wish I hadn't as I'm back into vinyl, and happily so.
