  1. Also, after recent experience wth a pair of Cullen power cords, I myself would look into their speaker cables: http://www.cullencable.com/index.php/products/speaker-cables
  2. Well, they should! Especially for the prices they are charging for downloads. Many of us here are still not downloading though. I'm not buying any of these SHM-CDs though. Now if they were titles newer to cd, maybe.
  3. Thanks again for this headsup. I have this set and love it, I've actually listened to each disc and some multiple times. I purchased another copy at this price as an Xmas gift for my brother and sister-in-law.
  4. I have spent quite a bit on speaker cables, and I hesitate to recommend anyone do that who is not into the whole "audiophile" thing. I recently replaced Monster Cable speaker cable in my Dad's system with a cable that Decware sells that I had in my main system for years (you can also buy this cable elsewhere, it's used in satelite communications). Just changing the speaker cable made such a difference that for the first time I was able to turn the tone controls on the preamp to flat settings and everyone heard a nice full sound. In my main system I added Mapleshade Double Helix speaker cable and after a few weeks I'm really enjoying the sound. They're not cheap, but I spend money on my stereo and am used to this sort of pricing, for me it was worth it. Many people swear by Blue Jeans Cables, so they are worth a look. If I were in the market for budget cables I would look for discounted ones or discontinued ones and would look into PCOCC wire. I've found this wire to be very smooth and yet also detailed. There are some interesting choices at www.accessories4less.com
  5. Absolutely! There's not enough that I don't have to order this, but if I didn't have this material I'd want it!
  6. I love these lps Flora did for Milestone. Sounds so good tonight!
  7. Looking forward to this one!
  8. Hi page, Sorry for the additional vowel in your name. Just a typo, not a misnomer, but I have a friend named Paige and it's easy to mistype. A is doing very well, but I miss her very much. I moved across the country to be able to help my parents stay in their house, and A is looking after her mother back in Austin and we've only seen each other five days the last five months. It's not at all good. But it is what it is. My life is very lonely now. Hope all is well with you. HAPPY to see you here.
  9. I can see that if you like those genres it's very cool. I can't get past the fact that Crane acclimated to the 21st century in like twenty minutes and the big story is just too silly for me to get into, I watched three episodes but I'm not continuing.
  10. Stuart, You are not dumb. He made a big deal of saying "Parker could listen to the other musicians and play his own line." My Dad looked at me and said "I did that when I was in Band in high school playing the clarinet. Don't all musicians?" I felt sad for Crouch.
  11. Crouch was briefly on the PBS News Hour last night, interviewed about the book. He didn't dress up, wore a t-shirt and a warm up jacket. And he said nothing deep or meaningful at all. Disappointing.
  12. Yes, see my post above. Also a sextet session.
  13. Many many happy returns!
  14. I watched the first three and am giving it up. Spader is good, but the rest. . . bah humbug.
  15. Two new Rearward releases I'm not sure have been mentioned: Francy Boland Playing With The Trio Clarke Boland Sextet Marcel Marceau Praesentiert Swing Im Bahnhof
  16. Many many happy happy returns!
  17. That IS darned impressive Allen.
  18. I've had that for years on an ESP XYZ disc. . . . Interesting to spin once or twice.
  19. Got my set in last night. Beautiful, beefy booklet (26 pages of text or so) and I really like the cover image. Listening to the last two discs on my Dad's stereo and it sounds very nice. Will be some time before I can do some critical listening in my own system as I'm on full time duty here looking after my parents. I'll say this though: I've listened through tracks sourced from previous cds and those not and there was nothing on this system to call attention to one track rather than another sonically. They all sound nicely balanced and swingin'.
  20. Tastes aside, this is not "dime a dozen" "formulaic hard bop" --- quite different than that. Just wanted to point that out. Hopefully there's nothing wrong with that.
  21. Listening to this again. I very much disagree with Hans that this is dime a dozen, formulaic hard bop. The biggest drawback for me is the poorly sounding piano. But the arrangements are not typical, and the playing has some real interest for me. Ousley reminds me of Dexter Gordon here in spots, and I would say this music has a stronger small group swing element to it than much of the hard bop of the time. I like it, and think it's worth a listen Bertrand. I don't do streaming but maybe it's on Spotify or something like that.
  22. If we talk about it a few more times it may come out on RLR or Gambit. . . .
  23. Should be similar to Spirits, which is an interesting release.
  24. IMO no cd with Charles Davis and Julian Priester is ordinary. I think you might like it. But as you're awful cautious you may as well pass it by.
