  1. This page should be helpful, you can search for "Mosaic". . . . http://www.jazzdisco.org/clifford-brown/catalog/
  2. I gave up smoking just one month shy of twenty years ago. I haven't kicked the cd habit. . . .
  3. It was 1988 for me. Finally went for the format when I saw all the releases that I just couldn't find on lp then. Sometimes I wish I'd gotten obsessed with something else, something that ultimately was less of a "cost" to my life. But what happened happened. Six walls in my house are covered with cds in one form or another.
  4. The remastering on the Columbia Albums box set is different than the Japanese "original mix" cds. The mix is very similar, perhaps identical, but the tonal balance etc. is different. I believe most will be very pleased when these new sets come out.

    Robert Johnson

Yeah. He's the most important blues guitarist, of course. But singer?
  6. Actually, yes, in a few instances I could and did. The new versions sound crisper, tighter, more "in focus." Also a bit more dynamic. That's the best way for me to describe it. I compared two of the Hadens that I had, a few tracks each, before passing them along to a friend.
  7. I hadn't seen ShowsOn's post. He's correct. You have to get b). b) DOES include the Tanglewood, as seen on the page I linked to. Even the amazon page shows "three cds and a DVD", "Four discs." Okay, I'm not confused any longer. Thanks.

    Charles Mingus

Everything from this group/tour is an exciting listen. This Get Back Stuttgart sounds pretty good: As EC notes, the new Bremen sounds decent. Great music.
  9. I'm confused. ShowsOn? Above? Here's what it says on this page: http://www.milesdavis.com/us/news/bitches-brew-40th-anniversary-release-part-miles-davis-birthday-celebration • Bitches Brew: 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition (the same three discs as above*, plus a third CD comprising a previously unissued performance by the new septet lineup at Tanglewood in the Berkshires, August 1970; alongside a 48-page color booklet and a 180-gram vinyl double-LP gatefold replication of the original album) * Two CD discs of the album's original mix and alternate material, one DVD of the entire Copenhagen show
  10. I've been assuming it is this date from 1970 http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Sessions.aspx?s=700818 It's not part of the "Genius" box, it's part of the BB set. . .mainly because of material I'd say. And limited availability, they probably have good tapes.
  11. I'm really enjoying the sound of the cds in these sets.
  12. I'm disappointed too. I thought to myself. . . "Maybe I could sell someone the lps." That's all it took. I placed an order.
  13. Nah, that's not the same. This is a special album.
  14. Jack, when I interviewed Michael Cuscuna a decade ago he told me the same story, including specific mentions of Kenny Dorham. I'm not sure if he outright told me or just inferred that the tapes are no longer.
  15. Wow. Let's keep it on the downlow or it will end up a joing "Dateline" and "48 Hours" Friday night prime time special.
  16. Just a month ago I thrilled myself watching Easy Rider for the first time in a decade. Was really something to be able to turn the system off at the end and go for a ride on my Harley! What an actor Hopper was. I really enjoyed his work on the first season of Crash (I haven't yet seen any of the second season, will rectify that when the dvd set is released). He's almost like a Jungian archetype to me, sort of a Henry Miller-esque raw catalyst and wound-up commentator from the gut and fevered brow. Rest in peace. . . if that is even remotely possible.
  17. I resisted for quite some time, but I finally started watching the first season of Sons of Anarchy. What a weird show, in many ways entertaining, but I confess there's about five minutes of every episode I wish I hadn't seen.
  18. Alex Blake is an amazing musician. I'm really glad you got to see Randy Weston!
  19. Many more happy happy returns!
  20. Rivers will/would have to deal with the Hendrix estate to get this officially released. Looking at their track record of releasing this sort of thing, they may take a chance on a Dagger Records (their mail order only line) but it's not likely they would think it would generate enough sales to bother.
  21. Many happy happy returns!
  22. I'm sure there's some interesting stuff there. Not sure what Janie Hendrix would think of the commercial potential of this material. . . .
  23. No, this does not circulate among Hendrix collectors.
