    Wild!
  2. Well me too. But if I were these guys, I wouldn't sleep well when Sue Mingus was in town. . . .
  3. They include the spoken bit, same as on your tape Marty. But. . . I don't hear it as "ire" in Ellington's voice, it seems to me his usual playfulness with the audience.
  4. I'm enjoying it. Not deep, but a very pleasant read.
  5. There was a really bad dropout on one track of Dialog I believe. No, there's no real way that I know to tell of a corrected or flawed copy, but my guess is there's probably not many flawed copies out there.
  6. Glad you're enjoying it. I'm a big Teefski fan too, but not necessarily a fan of 'exotica" . . .
  7. I think the recent RVG sounds pretty damned good considering the source tape.
  8. Many many happy happy returns!
  9. There's no "legitimate" version that I know of, nothing released with the sanction of the estate. That said, this material has now entered the "public domain" in Europe so they're "legit" for sale in Europe. The Jazz Band was the first compilation of this sort I have heard and it sounds pretty damned good. I think the source broadcasts are of really good quality. If you're copy sounds good. . . well they all probably sound about the same.
  10. I like watching Selma Blair. That's the gist of it for me. Sometimes the sound isn't even on. I'm often on the laptop. When I do really watch it, it's okay. It's seriously missing something, haven't figured out what. . . has its moments both ways.
  11. Yes, it's very good, I've gone through the set twice, and played the third disc (my favorite) four times. Mark Wilder did a very nice job with the sound.
  12. The last time I remember a similar glitch was on the Dialog RVG. If I remember correctly, one emailed a request for a replacement cd, the disc was mailed to you. I know that I never returned actual product because recently I discovered I still have the disc with the glitch, and the replacement disc. It will be okay. Just give it a little time. Like two months. You'll have a clear idea what to do in that time frame I bet.
  13. If clarification is needed, I meant that in a sincere and honest way. Your story moved me.
  14. I got all verklempt.
  15. Many happy returns Michel!
  16. In Performance at the White House.
  17. There are a significant number of tracks from other artists and sessions that are not in the Mingus box. However, if you have the Mingus box, and if you have the two Charlie Parker releases that were on Debut, the Max Roach and Kenny Dorham releases, there is less in the box set that you don't have. . . isn't that great a deal. Very nice booklet I'd say, and the box is available at a pretty nice price here and there.
  18. Al you may be saying it and hearing it. . . but I don't. I've bought every RVG and I've compared many to the McMaster editions and they don't sound like the same transfers to me at all. They seem fundamentally different than just eq'd "knob tweaked" same transfers. I know a little bit about recording, did some of my own, I'm not an expert but I don't agree with your hypothesis. This is unfortunate this error, agreed. They'll fix it, and replace it at no cost to the customer, I believe that. I actually like the sound of this version, and I have other versions to listen to until they get it right.
