  1. The other Bill Evans. . .the older of the saxophonists.
  2. Eddie who?
  3. No what I smelled was the stink of someone arrogantly thinking their opinion was more important than others'. I don't think I'm "morally superior" to anyone. I'm just with Paul. I think Sinatra and the Rat Pack's shticks bite. It's a personal opinion, I don't care if it goes against anyone else's grain. And I just don't "dig" Frank's or Dino's voice or style. So what?
  4. I thought I smelled something.
  5. Evan, yeah I likw "Loverly" a lot!
  6. Started on a huge undertaking: reading all volumes of Thomas Mann's "Joseph in Egypt" books in the new translation by John Woods. Only 1600 pages or so. . . .
  7. I saw this today. A nice mellow funny movie for the fans who don't have to have conspiracy and aliens.
  8. Lon, Agree 100% about Sade. Do yourself a favor and pick up the DVD called "Sade Live". Wow! Also, I would highly recommend that you check out Ana Carolina. She sings in Portuguese but boy can she sing and boy can she play the guitar. Check her out on YouTube. The cut with Jorge Seu called "E Isso Ai" is prime. Up over and out. Dave, I've been listening and watching that DVD since it came out, that on the equally wonderful "Lovers Live." My new lover and partner responds to Sade as she does to no other music. So Sade is played and played.
  9. Yes, this is a nice home for music lovers. . . although sometimes it's also a venomous snakepit. I guess that's because it's a very human place. Oddly enough, thanks to the members of this board I'm LESS intensely interested in jazz than I was before I came here. And more interested in other genres such as brazilian, classical and funk than I was before I got here. And lately I've been listening to lots and lots of Sade. What a wave of love that woman's music can be!
  10. Since it seems to be so. . . well Johnny, thanks so much and rest in peace!
  11. Hope it's not so. . . .
  12. Welcome! Post!
  13. I'm not a Sinatra fan at all. I have the Basie one and the Ellington one (not that impressed with the Ellington one) for the bands not the singer. I LOVE June Christy.
  14. Allen has always had a beautiful tan! I hope he's having a lot of fun!
  15. Many many more happy returns!
  16. Okay, I didn't place the name. I absolutely abhor FS and Dino on Reprise . . .but mainly because I just hate that boozy macho myscogenistic poser crap I get out of those, don't even think I've ever paid attention to arrangements because I just don't let that stuff hit my ears any longer. It may or may not be worth it. But I'd buy it on cd if it came out because. . .I have all the others that have come out. I love June. (And May and October, those are my three favorite months).
  17. Don't know about that one. . . but June Chrsty on Capitol has always been a good thing to my ears.
  18. Hey the way I read that account of Alexander's. . . she was riding the motorcycle and it got stuck in high gears. . . it's not necessarily that she was riding one that always did that (it would be very hard to even start rolling along the road on a motorcycle stuck in the high gears! sounds as if the clutch went out).
  19. Hey Ted, He sort of had to stop or just keep dying slowly. . . I doubt you're in those shoes!
  20. My father in law told me that it was harder to stop smoking than to stop drinking. . . . I was listening to Joe on Secret Ellington (excellent) in the same room as Shawn. RIP Joe.
  21. To my knowledge most of these have only been available on cd from RCA Japan.
  22. Seriously, this bothers me, too. Been there, done that, getting ready to do it again.... No you're not.
  23. Hell, he was just here!
  24. Okay I confess. . . all the depressing things have stopped happening to me finally. . . the only real issue is my mom's health which is being addressed as best as possible. Really good things are happening to me now. Makes it hard to hang out at this depressing place! (Just kidding).
  25. I love motorcycles, and I've had a worse car accident than ever has been the case on two wheels for over a dozen years of riding. Slide, glad to hear you came out of that well. Gravel. . .bites. Keep the shiny side up!
