Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?

What I find neat is that you can go through the set and hear a track and say "Ah, they've studied the John Coltrane Quartet." And then the next track you say to yourself "I hear they've been listening to Horace Silver!" And the next track, "Wow, that's very Cannonball!" And the next track "Here comes an Eddie Harris inspired tune!" And they're all good tracks, all have a distinct Jazz Crusaders thing going as well as the structure or style of these other bands. Also: Felder was a monster player. -

Aw Jazzbo--say it ain't so!! Swinging to the new Lester Young with Basie set, disc one. Greg Mo Sorry, it's so, I mean I do really like it but I'll never flip for it that much. -
Yes, I love that album!

I'm on a Zizi Possi trip these days. Her stuff is harder to find but interesting. She's so beautiful!

With all due respect, I totally disagree about Cabin in the Sky and bid you a good day. I didn't mean to imply it was either the best black film nor Minelli's best (don't really care about that latter). But I think it's a very effective movie in message and performance. (And reminds me favorably of an optimistic "Les Jeux Son Faits".) On top of that I really think Ethel did a wonderful job with acting and singing.

Yeah man, I'll bet it's nice. I love my Teles, although I'm not really playing them now. I really like the neck pup clean and they seem to have more treble and bass than a Strat. . Yeah......"clean"....that pretty much describes the Tele - neck OR bridge. I love it! My Tele has the Fender "Humbuckers" -- clean and bright, different than your pickups though.

I like this one. It's got great sound as well as good performances. http://www.cmt.com/artists/az/waters_ethel...641/album.jhtml I'm a big fan of the movie "Cabin in the Sky" which features Ethel and she does a magnificent job. As does Lena Horne. And there's Pops and Duke performing as well. Fantastic!

Yeah. LPs are just not a route I follow. Been there, done that.

Seven more albums are now available in brand new (excellent) remasterings, although as straight albums only. The choice is hard for some; if you don't have the box set. . . so much is out in new sound. Though I have the box set AND the new releases and have to say the box set has perfectly acceptable sound, good early digital sound.

Can't get the Four Fresh from Mosaic any longer. Probably was the Dinah Washington. -

Wish I could enjoy the Herman Select as much as you guys do. I've had the original lps, I have the Select, I like the music, but it doesn't flip me the way it seems to flip others. Right now, Johnny Smith, disc one. World's most beautiful sounding guitar, or at least so I think often when listening. -
Be sure to at least seriously consider the Monks, and some of the Hodes and Bechet dates. They're essential Blue Notes.

I had a rare opportunity to have a dinner with one of my oldest friends and made her pecan encrusted salmon, guacamole (and chips, she's an avacado nut!) and green peas.

Congrats to KRS and all concerned. -
When I was in Houston for over a year over a few years. . . the iPod was my music source and I appreciated it so much. Since I returned in October after Helen passed, and wasn't able to listen to music at work in the location they moved me to, and then retired, I haven't used it. NOR missed it! But they're fascinating machines.
