  1. Don't forget to check out Jazz Unlimited and Nostalgia Arts as well. The "Midnight at V-Disk" is really good, as well as others. . . . I like that Whiteman.
  2. Those Doctor Jazz titles are good ones!
  3. HELL YEAH YOUR MIND IS SUPPOSED TO WANDER OUT INTO SPACE MAN SATURN MAN SPACE IS THE PLACE SPACE IS THE PLACE IT"S AFTER THE END OF THE WORLD DON'T YOU KNOW
  4. Right, there was a lot of activity over those cheap copies here on the board some weeks back. Seems a few dozen people got copies and were very pleased. I've had my own copy for many years and paid about six times as much. . . and have been very pleased!
  5. Of course. . .there's always the possibility that you could have waited. . .ordered them from yourmusic. . . got a backorder notice. . .and then see them disappear again!
  6. Kenny Dorham Afro-Cuban (Remastered) $6.99 Norah Jones Not Too Late $6.99 Baby Face Willette Face To Face (Remastered) $6.99 Thad Jones The Magnificent Thad Jones (Remastered) $6.99 Lou Donaldson Gravy Train (Remastered) $6.99
  7. 1917 to 1955. Then skip ahead to Ayler and Filles de Kilamanjaro through Miles' retirement.
  8. Also included, and perhaps more exciting actually, are "Monk" and "It's Monk Time." They also feature a five disc set reissuing five titlse in mini lp sleeves (more expensive). Who can tell us about these?
  9. I would doubt that these are "internet only releases." As the previous "Big Band" was two cds, there is something to the idea that these may be new versions. . . .
  10. Can't tell you. Haven't tried to read them, don't own a magnifying glass. I kindof doubt it. Notes mean very little to me these days (wasn't always that way!)
  11. Glad you're enjoying the Dizzy. I'm pretty lukewarm about it. Some of it I think is great. Some. . . not so much. I've had the music for some time, really don't view it as a "set." Me, I'm enjoying the Boogie Woogie Select!
  12. I've been enjoying this first set. It was a gift, and that helps in several ways. I feel that the sound is vefy good. I actually like having these as lp facimiles. . .these mean something to me as albums, and they're important work. My friend who gave this to me paid less than thirty dollars total for the set on the day it was released, which is a fine price. I'll definitely consider the second volume.
  13. I just finished this. Scarier than Steven King. Recommended if you're masochistic or really want to know what's what. Next I think I'll read that "Pagan Christ" by Happur.
  14. The Indigoes purports to contain all the material: the original stereo version, the tracks that are different in teh mono version, and I can't remember but to be complete it should contain the different "Autumn Leaves" track (French lyrics). The Drum is a Woman is NOT the CBS France version released some months back but a "Jazz Beat" digipak. If anyone is interested in a cd version of this one, and doesn't want to wait ten years when an official version MAY come out and you haven't sprung for that CBS France cd yet, hold off. . . . Get the Jazz Beat digipak instead. For one the cover is BEAUTIFUL. A wonderful print of the album cover, no CBS series logo at all, bigger than the CBS cover version because it's a digipak and it clearly takes it's inspiration from the highgloss Impulse digipaks. And the sound, though slightly different is as good if not a bit better (depends how you like the sound: this digipak has a bit of a brighter more focused sound, the CBS a darker, bit muddier sound) and WITHOUT the half a dozen clicks that are on my CBS cd copy (not sure if this is lp noise or digital "switching" like noise, not too bad but. . . annoying.) And it has an additional track (Pomegranate) which was recorded at the sessions, but never on the original album though it's reported that it was used in the tv program. . . so it's appropriately included. In my opinion, and fully aware of the 'qualms of provenance' about the Jazz Beat version, you're better served gnabbing that one. And yes, "Hey Buddy Bolden" is right there where it should be.
  15. I don't have nor have I really looked for a digital image anywhere of the Horsehow cover; it comes in a black binder that has cdrs in sleves two ring bound, with a color photograph on the front. No booklet for this. The two discs I've listened to are both "one track discs," i.e. no indexing of titles. Which is okay with me. Disc ten is an interview disc. As disconcerting as I find his interviews, I may skip that one! I think Vol. 4 is very good, and I also really like Vol. 1's music.
  16. I have that material from CBS France in a five volume set (volume five has Masterpieces by Ellington and the Liberian Suite. Wonderful stuff. I spent over one hundred dollars total on all five at a time where that meant a LOT of money to me. Glad I did!
  17. I don't know if the Detroit box is still available. . . I would email Transparency and ask: transparency2008@yahoo.com I have gotten all the Transparency releases, and all of them through Transparency.
  18. Get the great Centennial year relesase on Columbia. . . and there's a nice overview of the label's output, a three cd set.
  19. I got the Horsehoe Tavern box Saturday in the mail. Sound is nice. You'll like it.
  20. yes, they have a border on the left, just a 3/8" or so, and are actually in my opinion glossier and a better cover image. Inside they have the center gatefold images.
  21. Yes, that's a nice one. . . . Media Dreams sesms to still be "delayed". . . .
  22. Sandra, glad to see you posting here today! (This is Lon, Lonson, Pie-Eyed Blue).
  23. Bev, yes, there were LP reissues, including a really nice one on Smithsonian, and Columbia ones produced (I think) by Stanley Dance, but I haven't seen or heard these in a long time and I'm not sure that they included everything. . . .
  24. Well. . . the good news is that there is pretty much just the Columbia sides as far as that time frame goes. If you can grab the two volumes of the Small Groups and if you can find the two cd set "Braggin' in Brass" that Columbia put out (it probably is out of print but may not be too hard to find) you have all but about a disc's worth. I've had the material for so long that I haven't been researching ways to get it NOW, but have an idea . . . . The Mosaic small group set is a really good way to get all the small group material if you can go that route. A method that seems to mirror the Classics route are Naxos cds. It seems that their Vol. 6 in the Ellington series has quite a bit if not all of the missing in action titles not included on the Columbia cds. . . .
  25. Bev my man if you like the sound and the announcements on these, and you haven't already tried them, you should check out the Duke Ellington Treasury Series on Storyville. Fantastic in sound and material. Fascinating announcements/"commercial" spots at times.
