  1. Many many more manly happy ones!
  2. I'm in agreement too! I have all of these except the Pinnock and Sickler on either lp or cd. Not a clunker among them!
  3. I paypaled ya Chuck!
  4. I envy you folk with other language thinking possibilities! I think by the end of my stay in Ethiopia I could think possibly in Amharic when it was being spoken all around me; but that was long ago and far away. And I knew French really well in the sixties and seventies, and can still read it with a smidgeon of fluency, but never think in French.
  5. No thanks.
  6. Yes, and a great tube in ONE circuit can be lackluster in another. It's a world of possibilities! What I wish I had were tubed guitar and bass amps. (Again, in terms of the guitar amp). Maybe one day!
  7. I confess that I am a vacuum tube nut. I have an all tube stereo system, including a universal player (SACD, DVD, CD, MP3) that has been modded to sport a vacuum tubed output section. I used to be into vintage tube gear, and tubes but now I'm into modern gear that seems to have the benefits of sonic features of solid state and tube. I just can't do without tubes. I do use cryo'd tubes. . . I have NOS cryo'd in my source, and cryo'd current tubes in my other components. And yes, I think they make a difference (I've not had noncro'd tubes of the same make and model as the NOS, but have of the current tubes, and prefer the cryo'd versions.)
  8. I very much like Larry's concepts of macro and micro surprises. I hardly analyze music any longer. . . I just let it speak to me, and my surprises are from listenings and in the sense of a startling moment of brilliance or an unexpected burst of sound. I find lots of microsurprises all the time. Louis Armstrong singing often yeilds them. I just get floored by one phrase sometimes! Sun Ra Arkestra and Duke Ellington Orchestra for example provide them. A sudden blend of a few instruments that just makes me sit up and go "wow." Macrosurprises. . .I hven't run into many lately in jazz, but I know I will.

Yes, I've had it since its release (there is a separate thread about it elsewhere). Quite a find and a nice cd.
  10. Right brain
  11. Many more happy happy returns.
  12. I just looked at my order at cduniverse. . . says "Shipping." Wahoo
  13. I've never heard a Jazz Original that copied US sound, but there's a first time for anything.
  14. Just because. I dislike the sound on the US cd enough to risk rebuying, and I'm not crazy about the Nutcracker and don't play it often at all. I don't have A Drum is a Woman in any cd format except a cdr from my lp. . . . Makes sense to me to buy these.
  15. "some of that gambit stuff looks like it could be bootleg" Ya think?
  16. I've bought the Duke, Monk and the Mingus. Wonderful! I'll pick up the Coltrane soon.
  17. Sorry I missed this yesterday, many more happy ones Chris!
  18. I ordered the A Drum is a Woman and the Suites from amazon.fr
  19. Many more happy ones John!
  20. I'm pretty much along these same lines. I finally realized I'm grown up, about ten years ago, and I've cleaned up my clothing, though still keeping casual. I had a few suits and would wear them for the formal occasions, but now they don't fit! I will soon be buyng another.
  21. For God's sake if you don't have this set grab it.. . . I saved for months to buy it years and years ago and have gotten many many hours of enjoyment from the music.
  22. NOT that there's anything wrong with that!
  23. MG, many happy returns my friend!
  24. Gotta agree with Ray.
  25. I've been through a couple of those. They're hot but there's also a lot of sugar in there. You're absolutely right, awful sweet.
