  1. You're probably right about distinguishing the reissues by the new covers. I thought I was getting the new reissue by the cover on cduniverse, they fooled me! By the way, the back cover of the cd booklet IS the original cover, so all you have to do is flip the cover over and close it and you can have it as the front cover. I did get the new reissue (the correct one) from ESP-DISK themselves, and Brownie, YES, I'm really enjoying your photos (and your portion of the notes!) Thanks for setting me straight. News this week or so is that ESP-DISK is now distributing and selling the Revenant "Holy Ghost" box set!
  2. I bet that's a mistake! It's going to be a good one. Too bad they delayed this batch of these cds. . . .
  3. Open up one of the links. Click on the Preorder Now button. Shipping within the US will be 2.99 for the first disc, 1.00 additional for the next.
  4. I share your opinion.
  5. I believe this Cornell concert would be the first appearance on disc of So Long Eric. I believe Free For All is right, Praying for Eric is another title for Meditations (or Meditations on Integration, or Meditations on a Pair of Wire-Cutters) and I think on some boots of the Bremen show So Long Eric appears as Hope So Eric.
  6. Yes. . . but does Verve own those tapes any longer? Brownie, I think whatever is on that Newport release was also in the Complete Verve Holiday box (and on the appropriate Dinah Washington box.) Nice stuff, the Carmen is good too.

    Stuff Reissues

Well I can SENSE all the great music that must have been in those clubs from the recordings! Regret that I wasn't ever even near to being able to experience that stuff! (or. . .THAT Stuff).
  8. Just downloaded . . . and it sounds pretty darned good! Someone should post this on the AAJ eMusic thread too (I can't because I got myself banned for not being interested in the website, just the forum, Xricci finds that insulting).
  9. Okay a little research shows that the new "Dreams Come True" download from Chico is a duet with Andrew Hill!
  10. Really? I got an email from them, but no mention of Hill. . . .
  11. Some interesting stuff. What a great bargain. . .looooonnnnnnnnnngggggg tracks.
  12. Allen, is this the really cool "Mingus and Friends" Japanese issue with the Cosby intro and "conducted" piece? Both of these releases have great great music.
  13. According to a "dusted" review by Derek Taylor (probably my favorite reviewer) there were other "tape discoveries" by Sue that should be seeing the light of day. This is a great release. . . I'm listening to it again right now. . . love the sound and the playing.
  14. Still haven't received my copy. . . .
  15. It's not free jazz. You have to pay for it. In this case, directly to the artist.
  16. I've only read this one four times. The second time I had broken up with a woman with whom I had shared my life for a few years, and that was when that book most connected with me. But overall I'd disagree, I think it's a strong novel, and I really like what I see as gnostic elements in the novel, and the way in which seeking pleasure or escaping pain can bring ruin and litereally opens the door to evil.
  17. Thanks for the heads up!
  18. Sir, thou hast performed a nice public service!

    Stuff Reissues

Well I like the live lps best. In Tokyo, In New York. And an unofficial one I have courtesy of a fellow Stuff fan here on the board. I like the studio lps as party favorites of the past, I have a lot of sentimentality tied up in them, can't really remove that from my opinion of them probably. (Hey but what do I know, I'm silly enough to get myself banned from AAJ by Xricci the insecure). I have had and may still have a few of those Dupree albums, and I've seen Dupre play live here in Texas. . . He's very KOOL but I'm also an Eric Gale fan, and I like them both together. (And sue me, but I like Richard Tee too!) The closest I came to live Stuff was being dragged to a Paul Simon concert in 1980 with a girlfriend. Close. . . no cigar.

    Miles & Mobley

I think in fact that Mobley and Miles were more similar than dissimilar in playing style, and Miles found that a dissimilar style next to him on the bandstand or in the studio worked better. Or it could be something extramusical. Often I think Miles dissed musicianship for reasons outside the musician's musicianship. I mean didn't he say something like "Duke Jordan couldn't play shit." I don't think that was ever true, no matter whether talking about his tenure with Bird or beyond.
  23. I love jazz. Some people think I'm eccentric. I think I'm sometimes downright weird. Don't feel like going into details. . . .Provide your own.
  24. Hope you have a fantastic day! They want to know where the party is. . . .

    Stuff Reissues

You know, call me a little crazy (wouldn't be the first time) but I sort of equate Stuff to thirties and forties Basie-ite small group stuff. . . I react emotionally to them in a similar fashion, and I think that their groove and feel is sort of a rock/soul similar one to that Basie feel and groove. Okay. .. little crazy.
