  1. This one's still available for trade. PM on the way. Sorry Cliff, I just worked out a trade for this box literally within the past couple of days. Forgot to post on this thread that it was no longer available, apologies. No probs, thanks anyway.
  2. Yes, Zoot is worse than Chet. And as I mentioned in another thread, I think Chet is a better singer than Kenny Dorham too. But I'm thinking of the younger Chet; I haven't heard enough of how he sounded in later years. I actually don't mind either Chet's or Zoot's vocal efforts, I just take it for what it is, not their main gig and just probably enjoying themselves. This is pretty good, don't know if it's been posted before; Chet Baker Live (Belgium 1964) : Time After Time
  3. This one's still available for trade. PM on the way.
  4. I didn't know they required paypal, thanks for the tip. Now someone needs to explain to me why someone paid slightly more for a used edition of The Complete H.R.S. Sessions, $100, when they could have gotten a new one from Mosaic for $96??? The Complete H.R.S. Sessions Mosaic MD6-187 Is that set back-ordered, maybe? Nope, it's not on backorder, tranemonk recently ordered it and they had it in stock.

  6. Yes Quincy, as I have learned that you're a fan of the early style of jazz from the H.R.S. thread, it would be well worth your while, here is a brief rundown of what's on it from AMG; "Two virtuoso guitarists are featured alone, together and with a small cast of supporting players on the 1998 BGO double-album reissue compilation Blue Guitars, Vols. 1 & 2. Philadelphia native Salvatore Massara, known professionally as Eddie Lang (1902-1933) and New Orleans' own Alonzo Johnson, who worked under the name Lonnie Johnson (1899-1970) both played blues and jazz guitar about as naturally as most people manage to breathe. On approximately ten of the classic recordings assembled here, Lang masqueraded as "Blind Willie Dunn" in order to conceal the fact that theirs was a racially mingled act at a time when the recording industry was still segregated. Traversing the weave of examples from both men's careers, one is struck by the refreshing diversity of moods and textures. In addition to the Italian-American Massaro/Lang's rendition of Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in C Sharp Minor," there are piano accompaniments by Arthur Schutt, Frank Signorelli, and Rube Bloom, as well as interactions with the Louis Armstrong band and a couple of friendly run-ins with homicidal blues growler Texas Alexander." It also has the session with the fantastically named Gin Bottle Four, which also included pianist J.C. Johnson and King Oliver.
  7. If you think Chet's bad, you probably won't like Zoot Sims, just a heads up.
  8. There's no Venuti on the Blue Guitars set if that helps.
  9. I can heartily recommend this one, it's well worth seeking out, two discs worth of fantastic music, excellent sound quality. 'Nuff said. Amazon link with sound samples.
  10. I'd quite like to see that game myself, local rivals and all that. :tophat:
  11. Even if times are hard that's very bad, if they don't have it and don't know when they're going to get it, they shouldn't have charged you.
  12. For those who like their Podcasts and as the new season is about to start, follow this one, it's very good. Football Weekly: 2009-10 season preview
  13. Let us know what you think, although I feel I have been convinced to get his one myself. :tophat:
  14. Nice one !!!!!
  15. Thanks for that.
  16. Yea, I've been enjoying some of the "old school" Jazz recently and these both look good, not too keen on vocals though.
  17. Oddly enough I was also considering the Ellington.
  18. Well, it was issued in the US on the Complete 50s Conn, there are two Japanese issues in print [TOCJ 1517 and TOCJ 9581], and there's a double 45 LP for the ultra fussy. Yea I get your point, but most, if not all, of the BN discography has been on CD at one time or another, I was refering to making these types of albums available to the masses via the RVG series.
  19. Roswell Rudd's liners are something else. Yea they're very good, personal without getting to wishy-washy, the musics not too bad either, just love "Sunday Stroll", could listen to it over and over again. I was giving disc one of the The Complete Verve Johnny Hodges Small Group Sessions 1956-1961 a spin last night and I was really blown away by Jimmy Hamilton and his clarinet, among other things, really great stuff.
  20. I was wondering what was going on at Arsenal recently and this article kinda explains it. Arsène Wenger promises signings as sales break up dressing-room clique
  21. Looks like I'm going to have to get myself some Tiny Grimes, nice description Jim. Here's an Amazon link with a small photo and a few small sound clips of what Jim was talking about.
  22. Thanks for the feedback everyone but a major "D'OH" on my part was not checking AMG first, they happen to have sound clips of the whole set so I will go through them just to get a flavour of it. Seems it would be fair to describe this set as a "Mini-Me" to the 3 OOP Complete Commodore Jazz Recordings sets???
  23. I don't remember reading to much about this set on here or even seeing it mentioned and try searching for H.R.S. or HRS and see what you get. :D I like a bit of "early" Jazz and I'm guessing his one might be a good way to get a nice selection of sessions, oddly enough though, they don't have any sound samples for this one on the Mosaic site. Any thoughts/opinions on this one??? The Complete H.R.S. Sessions (#187)
