  1. Mosaic's Scott Wenzel just told me they fixed the error and they'll get replacement discs in approximately two weeks. Cheers J.A.W, you're my favorite Dutchman after Kuyt and to a lesser extent Babel.
  2. I'd be very interested to hear this one myself, would be curious to hear Stan in this context, especially as it was a working group.
  3. I always enjoy reading a listener's impression rather than a critic's. I will definitely get this. Yes Steve, your review was right on the money, this is a really nice little session, the cd actually has 2 extra tracks with a similar line-up from the album "The Jazz We Heard Last Summer". Joe Puma is another reason to get this album.
  4. From the Mosaic site; "Great set with one mistake-please fix it This set is great. I own over 60 Mosaic sets, and that's not including Mosaic Selects & Singles. I've been waiting for years for Mosaic to do this set. Unfortunately they made a rare goof. They don't have all three takes of "Old Man Mose". They're listed in the discography and Dan Morgenstern comments on all three. There are two takes which begin with a trumpet solo and one at a slower tempo with a band arrangement in place of the trumpet solo, which they put on disc one twice instead of the the second take with a trumpet solo. Mosaic is generally very careful and thorough. Somebody dropped the ball during the mastering process. I hope they re-do disc one and send everybody who bought this set the new copy. Otherwise they did their usual high quality work on all aspects of this set containing some of the greatist recordings by the greatest musician of all time. The mistake is what caused me to rate this set four notes instead of five."
  5. Proof, if any was needed, that there is in fact no God, either that, or he/she is a complete bollox.
  6. I always enjoy reading a listener's impression rather than a critic's. I will definitely get this. I had forgotten that Costa is on "Satan in High Heels"/"Blues for a Stripper", there's a great line up on that album as well., I'll have to dig it out.
  7. Cheers for that Steve, I'm not the biggest fan of flute jazz myself but the whole group on this one in addition to Costa was making me very curious.
  8. Talking of some of Costa's more obscure sideman dates, does anyone having any thoughts, positive or negative, on his date with Herbie Mann??? I have gone through the thread and didn't really notice any chat about it. AMG gives a good review and the line-up looks very good. I agree with what has been said by a few people regarding his arranging skills, his arrangements really are wonderful and quite inventive. I get the impression that he did a lot more arranging on his sessions than he got "official" credit for. Also, is there some sort of link between his piano playing style and the fact that he also plays vibes, some of his solos really sound like he's trying to play the vibes via the piano, either that or he really liked Jackie Byard.
  9. I've been using AVG "free" for a long time now as well, it's really, really good and well, free. You can't go wrong. :tup AVG Free.
  10. Hey, I'd buy it if it came out, I'd buy "The Complete 1950's Recordings of Warne Marsh" if it came out, but that's not going to happen either.
  11. It's a nice idea but I can't see it happening in the current climate, or even the climate of 5 to 10 years ago, when these kind of things seemed possible.
  12. Well if they rebroadcast Newcastle and Middlesbrough, try and watch it, especially the first half, really open game and very enjoyable. The relegation battles are always very good.
  13. Amen to that, and I'm not sorry if it offends, it was just "Friends" set in a hospital.
  14. One of the main reasons is that the World Cup has been kind of ruined by the fact that there are just too many teams/countries that qualify, it's more of a war of attrition. Although I didn't see West Ham-Stoke City, Stoke were in danger of being relegated so there would be some extra spice to the proceedings. Try and watch Newcastle and Middlesbrough on Monday night it will be very, very interesting, it's a local derby, ie 2 clubs from the north east of England and they are both in danger of being relegated which would a disaster for both clubs for different reasons, which ever team wins it has a very good chance of staying up. The battle to stay in the Premier League ...
  15. Yes, but it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
  16. Muppet Show - Dom DeLuise 1 Muppet Show - Dom DeLuise 2 Muppet Show - Dom DeLuise 3
  17. That was so fucking funny, no matter how many times I see it I still laugh.
  18. I do kinda wish I had these 2 but it was all the alternates that put me off. I have a few of the albums from them and they are a lot better than I thought, especially the "Fantastic Frank Strozier" album. It's a pity they didn't find a way to get the Yusef Lateef album "Contemplation" on to one of the boxes somewhere as it's actually quite good. Contemplation AMG review.
  19. Yes, I thought the Farlow would be gone by now, but I guess his sales figures are the same whether he's alive or dead.
  20. I really like these Duesenberg guitars, especially this one; Starplayer "Outlaw" TV Crap name though.
  21. This was my worst night ever, admits Wenger, as Arsenal crash out Too many kids playing against men.
  22. I have no items for sale at the moment, Thanks.
  23. I would still recommend the one I recommended here; The one on Black Lion...
  24. The Mosaic is OOP.
  25. They were just lulling us into a mild coma so they can wow us next week. I was a bit shocked at how disorganised Arsenal were, they didn't really seem to have a plan. It's a shame Liverpool are gone, they always provide more drama.
