  1. The same company (Warner Music Group - X5 Music Group) has released a lot of others, all download-only, for $7.99. X5 is the company that releases those really cheap classical sets ("The 99 Most Essential Saint-Saens Masterpieces," etc.), which, no surprise, sell really well because of their low prices. I guess they've convinced Warner Music Group to lease some of their older releases through them. Smart move. Here are some others I've found: Al Jarreau - Complete Reprise and Warner Albums Firefall - Complete Atlantic Albums The Spinners - Complete Albums 1973 - 1984 The Trammps - Complete Albums 1976 - 1980 Atlantic Starr - Complete Warner and Reprise Albums Nicolette Larson - Complete Warner Albums And there are others...I refused to list David Gates - The Complete Elektra Albums, for example. Even I have limits.
  2. Not jazz, but an incredible bargain: Gordon Lightfoot - The Complete Albums 1970-1998, 146 tracks, for $7.99 from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YPSHZ37/ref=s9_acsd_ri_bw_r2_dmmbsalb_5_t?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-12&pf_rd_r=QPTFBQG80BKHV3DHABWT&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=c114cc5c-15a4-4442-863b-b2f2c04eb720&pf_rd_i=163856011#
  3. I want to hear the sound quality of the new Mobley box.
  4. John Scofield Live is truly excellent. It's a quartet, with Richie Beirach, George Mraz and Joe LaBarbera, from 1977. Just make sure it's the expanded CD version, not the original LP.
  5. Paul Bley - Improvising Artists, Inc. (IAI)
  6. I found it by first going to amazon.co.uk (using your link) and copying the ASIN #. I then pasted that into the search box on Amazon's US site. This is a good technique to keep in mind in general; I've used it to find Original Album Classics releases that don't seem to come up using word searches.
  7. I agree, that's pretty awful.
  8. It probably has more to do with the economics of running a jazz label these days. Looking at the back cover of the Ronnie Cuber release reveals that Nils Winther not only produced, but also did the mix, mastering, and, yes, the photos. Anyway, these photos and covers are nowhere near as bad as Pablo in its prime. See, for example: At lease Nils Winther springs for color.
  9. What company is it for?
  10. Also available from US Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B07XK9WDSY/ref=tmm_acd_new_olp_sr?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1574226115&sr=8-1
  11. Then there's this, recorded in 1982; it didn't make much of an impression on me the one time I heard it:
  12. This just arrived today. Can't wait to hear it! Bari + guitar + Hammond B3 + drums = grease!
  13. For those thinking of buying "The Bethlehem Years," note that it contains only half of "Winner's Circle" (the half on which Coltrane played).
  14. "Birdology" is Royal Roost material, circa 1949. Probably all on the Savoy box. "Bird At The Apollo" also contains tracks by Stan Getz, Timmy Rogers (comedian), and Sarah Vaughan. Probably about 20 minutes of Bird on the disc. See: http://www.plosin.com/milesAhead/BirdSessions.aspx?s=500817 "The Happy Bird" has some performances with Howard McGhee that I don't think are available elsewhere. Still, a "private" recording, not audiophile. Same is true of the Pres titles. The other titles listed were all original to CP Records. I suppose there's potential for an audio upgrade, depending on their source materials.
  15. I sympathize. My Epson scanner still works after the upgrade, but my Amadeus music program no longer burns to my CD drive. Waiting for a fix. On my iPhone, my Remote app no longer connects to my desktop.
  16. There are some amazing bargains on this page, just on a price-per-disc basis (there's also an Ornette box on page 2): https://www.amazon.com/apb/page/?handlerName=OctopusDealLandingStream&deals=0defbb0e&marketplaceId=ATVPDKIKX0DER&showVariations=false&ref_=Oct_DotdC_cd3m_0_0defbb0e&pf_rd_p=224503f1-9816-5978-8430-6920e4de85b0&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-4&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=406646&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=SR1QX2FQBC8NH3RS74GD&pf_rd_r=SR1QX2FQBC8NH3RS74GD&pf_rd_p=224503f1-9816-5978-8430-6920e4de85b0
  17. It’s more a Blakey album (the original title was Art Blakey Big Band). Coltrane gets some short solos. The album is such an outlier in Blakey’s catalog that I wonder what the back story was. It’s good, though.

  21. I say appreciate these new releases while you can. Nils Winther isn't going to be around forever. Release date February 15:

    Billy Harper

The same dynamic happens on the Blackhawk sets. Listen to how Kelly, Chambers and Cobb ramp up when Mobley begins soloing. Maybe it was on direction of Miles?
  23. Release date January 15:
  24. Emanation - download for $2.58: https://www.amazon.com/Emanation-June-1971-Workshop-Boston/dp/B07YZRHRYQ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=rivers+emanation&qid=1573616633&s=dmusic&sr=1-1
  25. OK, thanks. Not a lot of love for them here. I just remember spine printing not aligned on the spine.
