Thanks for posting that; very enjoyable. Who is the guitarist? Tom Fowler on bass? Couldn't see the drummer. Update: As revealed at the end, it was indeed Tom Fowler.

CTA (Chicago Transit Authority, later just Chicago) opened for the Mothers at the Fillmore East one weekend. My brother saw them and liked them so much he bought their first album; this was before any of their singles became big.

    Thanks for posting that. Sobering.
  5. Price is pretty high for these Apatow releases.
  6. Yeah, Spirit of '76 is all California, Cassidy and overdubs by them. It's almost all songs. I didn't mention archival titles, but I did mention this:
  7. I really liked Spirit of '76. Also check out Randy's solo album Kapt. Kopter.
  8. Baruch dayan emet. May she rest in peace.
  9. Hugh Hefner was obviously one of the major figures of the 20th century. One of many major figures, to be sure, but he made his impact and should get his due. This article is an thoughtful appreciation of his legacy: http://thefederalist.com/2017/09/28/hugh-hefners-legacy-is-about-more-than-sex/ And here is some more food for thought: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/09/28/hugh-hefner-death-feminism-womens-rights-215657
  10. Those albums are produced by Manfred Eicher, so he has to be in on the decision. Alternately, you can rip the disc, create a fade using audio software, and then save the results in a lossless format.
  11. It was pretty cool to see Pete Cosey, sitting on a folding chair. In my mind's eye, he looked a little like that creature on the back cover of Live Evil.
  12. I was there. It was a great show. And Miles was wearing a 3-piece suit!

    Toots Thielemans

I'm listening now to The Real...Toots Thielemans. As you can see, a really generous collection, with each disc approaching 80 minutes. While all Sony based, it seems to span most of his career. However, no booklet and no real liner notes other than what you see above. "Un jour tu verras" features Dianne Reeves, "La vie en rose" features Diana Krall, "La valse des lilas (Once Upon a Summertime)" features Shirley Horn (a really nice rendition), and "Ponteio" is from Gilberto feat. Turrentine. Really, the only glaring omission is the Sesame Street theme. Very listenable; this is like the Mosaic Select Toots never got. And very inexpensive.
  14. Just bought The Complete Roost Sonny Stitt Studio Sessions on eBay for $74.99 (incl. shipping).
  15. Maybe they mistook him for:
  16. Not sure. The guy holding the LP looks like the guy on the cover, and the color of the sports jackets are different.
  17. At first I thought it was writing...I actually thought it might be a classical album on RCA. But I then enlarged the picture and saw I was off-base. What looked like writing (in the upper center of the cover) now looks like an emblem (something like the Cadillac logo) with some ballroom ceiling lights behind it. It might be a dance/disco album...which would place it a little later than 1973. Maybe something in the Queen mold?
  18. The download of the 4-CD set is available on eMusic for $6.99: https://www.emusic.com/album/95575904/Lucky-Thompson/Complete-Parisian-Small-Group-Sessions-1956-1959
  19. Jim, what are your latest thoughts about the Goodman?
  20. Happy birthday and many more, Sonny. Write those memoirs!
  21. Our thoughts are with you, out there in Florida. We've just lived through a big weather event here in Houston; hope Irma somehow avoids you.
