  1. So an AE artifact is a distortion to the music that the AE produces that is noticeably over-and-above what was heard on the original vinyl, or (in a digital recording) sounds unnatural and/or unmusical. Is that it?
  2. ImportCDs has the Philips: Original Jackets Collection box (55 CDs) for $51.70. Also, these sets tend to go up in price after the initial release date. Not clear what this means, but Amazon no longer has a price listed for this box.
  3. Happy birthday! Looking forward to future releases.
  4. Listening now to Jimmy Heath's Picture of Heath. Nice sound, good performance. Jimmy sounds a lot like Dexter on this one.
  5. But what is an Aural Exciter artifact - what makes that bad?
  6. 4167 was the original Blue Note catalog number for Point of Departure.
  7. I enjoyed reading that.
  8. Up. Anyone want this? I love the album, just found out I have a spare.
  9. Michael, I too enjoyed that book! I reviewed it May 25. Toward the end I came to the conclusion that she is a nut, but I still think that her ideas are good. I'm about a third of the way through. I like her writing style - very Japanese. I loved the portions about not telling your parents about the stuff you're throwing out. Tim - Sorry to hear about what you're going through.
  10. My problem is drivers who don't use turn signals. Grrrrr.
  11. I have a copy of Captain Beefheart's Mirror Man CD. It's the One Way Records release. Classic stuff. Available to a good home in the U.S.
  12. Does anyone have a useful answer?
  13. What's the cheapest way to mail a CD?
  14. Mosaic should release a box set of Scofield's BN recordings.
  15. Just noticed on eMusic: Mal Waldron & Steve Lacy, "Live at Dreher Paris 1981" (Hat), $6.49 for 4 discs worth of music. eMusic
  16. One of the reasons I wanted the complete jackets box is I read that Horowitz took great care in sequencing his albums.
  17. Release date September 18:
  18. Release date August 10 (?): Release date October 2:

  20. I think I have the 2009 Sony Europe reissue. It looks like this: There is only one take of "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm" on this box. It's track 13 on disc 2. No alternate. Regarding "I've Got A Date With A Dream," although the track on disc 4, track 23 is 2:44 and the track on disc 8, track 22 is 2:42, they sound to me like the same recording. There's no special mention in the booklet regarding either of these songs. Regarding "Gloomy Sunday," the box contains 31005-1 and 31005-2, not 31005-3.
  21. I don't remember the last time I logged onto AAJ. I got an email from them yesterday: "Someone has tried to log into your account on All About Jazz Forum with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes." I did a Google search for AAJ, and Google says "This site may be hacked."
  22. The Original Jacket box does contain many live recordings, but not all were from Carnegie Hall.
  23. Many thanks, Ubu! So it seems the only things missing (from officially released sessions) were some things for EMI. I'll have to see if those are currently available. As for the live boxes, I did a comparison of the Carnegie Hall to the Original Jacket box. There is very little duplication.
  24. I have the Sony Horowitz box, which contains all his work for RCA and Columbia. Other than the Deutsche Grammophon titles he did late in his career, did he do any other recordings for other labels?
