If it's my estate sale, why would I care? Also, if you wanted to, you could take everything out of the "baggie" and put it in a jewel case. Nothing would be missing.

I can copy and paste just fine, but typing [img ][ /img] (without the spaces) doesn't work, and neither does copying and pasting an image directly into the reply box. FYI, posting a link (which involves copying and pasting) works just fine as well.

Thanks, but sorry, it still doesn't work for me. I'll wait for the Invision fix.

Listening to Walking Down, I'm struck by the quality of the band, especially the tenor and pianist. Yet the musicians are so obscure! Eric Dixon spent many years in Basie's band, but Lloyd Mayers and Sonny Wellesley? Anyone have background on these excellent musicians? And why wasn't Dixon recorded more often? Howdja do that?

The type sold by spacesavingsleeves (and some other places mentioned in this thread) enable you to see the spines. The board isn't allowing us to post jpgs these days, but if you go to this link, you can see a picture of plastic sleeves with readable spines, and this YouTube video shows how to use the sleeves. As for storage, I hope to use storage boxes as mentioned above. This would solve the slipping-and-sliding problem, and the boxes stack well on bookshelves. Label the boxes with what's inside (Jazz - A, or Kenny Burrell - Donald Byrd, etc.).
-
This is not an "out of sight, out of mind" thing - I want to be able to access them.
-
I was thinking of storing them in these boxes; Amazon has them for $5.33 each. Customer responses seem to indicate I could get 60 - 100 in each box, and they stack. Hmmm, the board software isn't letting me post the .jpg; the item can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00062UW5A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

And do y'all just throw out most of the jewel cases?

Jazz Loft may be gone, but the owner of the website kept the business going for their sleeves: http://www.spacesavingsleeves.com OK, thanks. jazzloft.com used to link to the URL you provided, but no longer - jazzloft.com is totally gone.

Just announced: Dave's Picks volume 15: Municipal Auditorium, Nashville, TN (4/22/78)

Any new solutions out there in the 4 or so intervening years? Jazz Loft is gone. I'm considering the CD gatefold sleeves from Bags Unlimited or perhaps the ones from Cadence/North Country. Not really looking forward to opening and transferring all those clamshells. Also, I like looking at my CD spines; this is my library. I wonder if I'll miss that. On the other hand, I must admit I rarely access them; it's easier to play rips off the computer. Conflicted, as usual. Any thoughts?

Happy birthday; may your strings always sing.

if you're expecting anything useful out of the booklet besides the listing of musicians, you will be disappointed. I haven't made it past disc 3 of the Newport set yet, but I'm glad it's all in one place despite the presence of previously released material. Were other Newport appearances by Miles recorded too? Is this set all there is? I can tell you that the 7/1/75 show I attended was about 2 hours, with an intermission. Odd that they're only including one track here.

"The Lighthouse All-Stars"... Howard Rumsey R.I.P.
mjzee replied to ghost of miles's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
A search revealed no newspaper obituaries thus far, but here's an interview with Marc Myers. RIP. http://www.jazzwax.com/2015/07/howard-rumsey-1917-2015.html- 5 replies

Also, per Losin, Airto's last gig with Miles was May 7, 1971. See: http://www.plosin.com/milesahead/Query.aspx?q=M&t=0&c1=0&n1=1&n1v=Moreira%2c+Airto&v=0&c2=0&c3=0&m=0&e=0&y=0&n2=0&c4=0

Per Plosin, the only gigs Miles did in Washington in the '70's were the Cellar Door dates in December 1970 and Howard University in April 1973 (with a tentet). His only U.S. gig in November 1971 was in NYC at Lincoln Center - might you have seen him there? Of course, Losin could be incorrect, or there might not have been a recording of the D.C. gig. Re the "On The Corner" box set, I haven't downloaded it because I want the booklet. I like the chronological narratives, and need the shifting cast of musicians.
-
Thanks for the tip. I've just looked it up - it's now down to 32.90 eur. Packaging looks like a Dick's Picks release!

IIRC, the price of the 160 gb Classic was $399. I must retract my statement. I've just found the receipt for my 120 gb Classic (from 2009), and the price was $224.95.

You got it. Great joint you have here.
