  2. I've never heard of Fricsay before this thread.
  3. And look to the left of the logo: "This collection P & C 2014 Parlophone Records Ltd., a Warner Music Group company." I think the divestment of labels like this was mandated by the EU as a condition for the approval of the sale of EMI to Universal.
  4. It's a shame that Universal doesn't list the info somewhere. Why the secrecy?
  5. This is Parlophone material. All Parlophone recordings, except for The Beatles, went to Warner as part of the sale of EMI to Universal. Other labels that went to Warner include Colpix and Roulette. So who got the Beatles recordings? (I tried to google this but never got an answer.) Beatles went to Universal. See the back of the recent BBC package: Looks like Universal really wanted The Beatles and Blue Note!

Other labels that went to Warner include Colpix and Roulette. MJZ, I don't think that these were Parlophone. I think they were on His Master's Voice. Maybe Warner got all of the HMV recordings as well. Discogs says His Master's Voice as well: http://www.discogs.com/artist/180634-Manfred-Mann The Parlophone logo is on the back of the package:
  7. I recently ordered additional drying cloths for my Spin Clean. It seems they have greatly cheapened the fabric. The photo on Amazon still shows the old cloths: However, what arrived in the mail was this (photo taken from Spin Clean's website): An email to Spin Clean has so far gone unanswered. Disappointing. And no word on what the blue ribbon is for.
  8. With all of these previously-undocumented alternate takes coming to light, I wonder whether there will be a new edition of the Cuscuna/Ruppli BN discography.

  10. Whatever happened to that guy who was doing what he called the RVG project? He appeared very briefly either here or on the BNBB; sounded like he had people working with him, too.
  11. Saw this article in The Forward: Margot Adler, Witty NPR Correspondent, Put the Witch in Jewish Granddaughter of Psychoanalyst Alfred Adler Dies at 68
  12. Anyone else notice the shoutout to our forums? "After reading this lucid and authoritative exposition, and memorizing the essential detail, you will easily be able to hold your own on the Steve Hoffman and Organisimo Forums, or post withering put-downs on any blog of your choosing (except here, careful)."

    Bobby Jaspar

I'm listening now to the Bobby Jaspar disc in the Jazz On Vogue box set. Very nice writing, arranging and playing, notably so; I'm enjoying the heck out of it.
  14. I dare Django Gold and Justin Moyer to have the guts to write a "satire" about Kim Kardashian. Kim's publicist would get on the phone and have them out of a job within hours. Or how about a "satire" about football, or (dear to the New Yorker's heart) Vogue Magazine or the New York Film Festival? Putting down jazz is too easy because there's no one with muscle to fight back, y'know?
  15. I'm now watching/listening to View From The Vault II (6/14/91, Washington, DC). The Help On The Way/Slipknot/Franklin's Tower was so enjoyable. I'm really liking this Hornsby/Welnick version of the band; they seem like a real band, very cohesive.
  16. The Universal sets don't get deeply discounted the way Sony sets do.
  17. I just picked up a two-CD set on Concord, "Both Sides of the Coin", from Amazon (Prime!) for the ridiculous price of $3.84.
  18. Lon, how does the middle session sound? My impression from the RVG is that it was from a later-generation tape; it was striking how much better the alternates from that session sounded compared to the master takes.
  19. Also, the fact that the writer said he's "a huge fan of jazz in general" means that nothing matters all that much to him. Perhaps his wife should reconsider what it means when he says he loves her.
