  1. eMusic downloads usually wind up duplicated in two places: where you instructed it to go (in my case, to let iTunes catalog it), and to a separate eMusic folder as a safety (in my case, on my desktop).
  2. I'm in. Thanks for maintaining the board, Jim.
  3. Release date June 4: Amazon
  4. Release date June 25:
  5. Or some similar advice: try rebooting it.
  6. Don't use the iPad app; instead, use Safari to sign in here, just like on your home computer.
  7. Does anyone have a discography for the CD "The Kansas City Sessions"? I ordered the CD from Amazon thinking I'd get the Verve version; instead, I got one on "Folio," evidently licensed from GRP but containing no discographical info. Any help would be appreciated.
  8. Is this one of them: http://www.allmusic.com/album/ira-sullivan-1977-mw0000868543? Any idea when they will be released? How did this wind up on Flying Fish?
  9. Hey guys, calm down and start commenting on the music; you'll find you're more than welcome here.
  10. Every place has its own vibe. You're not in JazzCorner Kansas anymore.
  11. I do think that's a shame. Reprise never let it go out of print and it was widely available, which meant people could be exposed to it (witness all the befuddled reviews on Amazon). Now, who's gonna know to go to the ZFT website?
  12. Well worth it. And with the money you save, you can get this:
  13. Sorry for muddying the waters. Seeing your mention of Hat made me think of Comin' On, also on Hat Art. That was the "kettle" I was speaking about. Thanks. I don't want to get in the way of commerce, either; I hope JLH sells all he can press of Flight For Four. I guess my general befuddlement is about what people hear that eludes me; that's why I keep grappling with Ornette every so often, even though I haven't changed my mind about him in decades.
  14. Trout Mask arrived today from the ZFT. I compared one track (Moonlight On Vermont) to the Reprise CD, and the new release sounds much more vivid and punchy. On another, Ella Guru, the bass just whacks you upside the head! Listening now to Hair Pie: Bake 1, and the clarity is stunning. The packaging is very similar to the Reprise CD. Gail added a note: "The years in storage in Warners were not kind to Trout Mask Replica. The masters seriously suffer from oxide loss, primarily at the head of each of the four master reels. Fortunately, FZ had Dick Kunc make "safeties." These actually sound better than the Originals and are in excellent condition but alas, incomplete. This edition of Trout Mask Replica is from the ZFT Vault protection copies, transferred at 96K 24B, except for Frownland and Hair Pie: Bake 2 which are from the original damaged master tapes transferred to direct stream digital at UMRK." That must mean ZFT is in possession of the Reprise tapes, clearly resolving any question of copyright ownership. On the intriguing side, the new release clocks in at 78:54, while the Reprise CD totaled 79:05; why the difference? Finally, the ZFT disc wouldn't play in my Marantz CD deck; I had to make a disc copy using Toast. I hope Gail doesn't sue me for making a copy! (edited to correct typo)
  15. Are any other board members color blind? I have red-green color blindness.
  16. Now wait a minute, wait a minute!
  17. But Seeking is from 1969, with the same band as on Flight For Four. Are they really so different?
  18. Sco and John Medeski will be playing some dates as part of Phil Lesh and Friends: Lesh.net
  19. OK, I'll consider.
  20. Cassettes can last 30 years plus, but if they've been in someone's car deck and have been stopped, started, rewinded and fast forwarded many times, the tape is likely to be stretched. I do like the analogue sound of tape, especially on headphones, its pretty damn loud compared to MP3. But you listen to a lot of 20's, 30's and 40s jazz on cassette issued in the 70s and 80s and its in desperate need of a decent remastering which the golden era of CD reissues brought in. I have quite a few of the BBC cassettes that issued 1920s and 30s jazz in stereo. Surprisingly, it worked! Was that Robert Parker? I had the Johnny Dodds and loved the sound.
  21. I bought Seeking on Hat Art. The music just didn't do much for me - that whole style doesn't. I need more of a tonal center than what they provide, so I guess I'll be staying away from this reissue. I don't at all doubt the technical proficiency of the musicians - I loved Carter's work on Horace Tapscott's The Dark Tree. But there's a hole in the center of this style of music that I can't gloss over.
  22. Not a completist at all, just curious.
  23. Any thoughts on this? Release date June 11: Amazon
  24. This looks like fun. Release date July 16: Amazon
