  1. Those who don't have HDTV yet, but who own a HD-ready TV and have a PC connected to it should try some HD demo files. The difference between DVD and HD is spectacular. http://www.drfoster.f2s.com/trailers_hd-dvd.shtml
  2. A warning to all german fans of the movie: The recent DVD release of the movie in the cheap SZ-Mediathek Edition - the first german release on DVD - has the wrong aspect ratio: 1:85/1 instead of 1:66/1. In the close-up shots of Jeanne Moreau's face, her head is cut off in the middle of the forehead. So the only acceptable options remain the french DVD or the Criterion, which are 2-3 times the price of the SZ-MediathekDVD and have no german sound. http://sz-mediathek.sueddeutsche.de/mediat....do?pid=1617006 http://www.criterionco.com/asp/release.asp?id=335 http://www.amazon.fr/Ascenseur-pour-léchaf.../dp/B000BB96SA/
  3. I've bought all the Seinfeld DVD sets when they were on 50% sale on Amazon.co.uk. I had mostly seen the show with german or french translation before and the original is of course much better. I've found the bonus material a bit slim, but I don't care much for that anyway. The most interesting are the deleted scenes (there are not that many). The picture and sound quality is very good.
  4. GIL MELLE:THE COMPLETE BLUE NOTE FIFTIES SESSIONS US $200.00 (Reserve not met)
  5. I don't know how this is being implemented in the US, but there is digital TV over satellite and terrestrial transmission.
  6. No, only a set top box (less than $100) will be necessary in order to receive digital TV. A new TV set is only necessary if you want to benefit from HDTV quality.
  7. I don't know about the US, but in Europe, digital TV will go by cable, satellite and air (DVB-C, DVB-S and DVB-T). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB
  8. Of course, only the latter part is relevant for imposing the new system by law. Technical progress should be capable of imposing itself on the market, if the consumers want it. That is the tricky part of the issue. I wonder what will happen if FM radio is abolished by law in Europe, in 2012 (if it is not delayed again). Almost nobody is interested in digital radio and wants to replace all the old analog radios. In fact almost nody knows what digital radio is.

  10. Maybe he is very busy. He was an active poster on the german Hifi Forum, but his last activity there is from January 9: http://www.hifi-forum.de/index.php?action=...ostID=last#last
  11. That must be the reason why none of my belgian colleagues show up at work today
  12. Thanks brownie! Both articles are somehow confusing, in that they say that dedicated record stores are menaced by supermarkets, iTunes and illegal filesharing, but fail to mention the competition from Amazon and other online stores. I think online purchases of CDs have much more impact on the decline of the traditional retail business than music downloads.
  13. It's a good thing when many data will be lost, as long as the essential data are being preserved. Imagine a sociology student in 100 years having to go through thousands of archived internet blogs and private videos in order to draw a picture of the society at the beginning of the 21st century. From our grand-grand parent who lived at the beginning of the 20th century, we usually have only a few portrait photos. With our digicams, we could leave a million private photos for our grand-grand children. Will they be interested in such a mass of boring daily life or holiday pics? We should learn how to make sure to preserve the important data, but also how to get rid of those that do not need to be saved for posterity.
  14. Get the belgian TV studio recording on DVD. It looks great. http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?...=lk_organissimo http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=r6s...p;refQ=cat%3D24
  15. I referred to "the other thread", but in fact it's on top of this page.
  16. BTW, as Jim explained in the other thread, it's not even necessary to use the search function, which is quite limited. You can use the Organissimo shopping search link to select the store where you want to go (leave the search box blank), and then use the search function on the store website: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/aff_search.php I've bookmarked it as my starting point for online CD, DVD and book shopping.

  18. All of the Jazz Door releases are boots (illegal releases), but most of their live recordings are of professional quality, usually made for radio broadcast.

    Art Farmer

It's a good album, but I never understood why it received a rosette in the Penguin Guide. Maybe as a sort of lifetime achievement award, like Scorcese's oscar for "The Departed".
  20. Re: sad news, no commentary needed Hi, Why is this "news", and why is it sad? The decline of the rap/hip hop phenomenon has been going on for years. It's just a natural development in music, that people get fed up with a certain (rather limited) style, and they move on. Rap will never die, but it will merge into new styles. And I think that all the times in pop history, the influence of music and their lyrics on youth is highly overrated.
  21. Hans was just expressing surprise, not satisfaction. How should we know why you are no longer registered?
  22. Agreed! Archie Shepp was at the peak of his powers in the mid to late 70's, both on the more introverted duo dates for Steeple Chase and the live recordings ("Steam" on Enja, Montreux One and Two on black lion, etc).
  23. You should use the website form when ordering those sex guide books.
  24. I received the status email today. All except one CD (Archie Shepp on Black Lion) are available. I hope they pack it right this time. In my last two orders, there was a problem with a missing (but billed) CD or a wrong CD. They fix the errors quickly (with a refund or coupon), but it's annoying.
  25. It's a great concert. But I was disappointed by the fact that the sound is mono only (on both the stereo and 5.1 tracks), which is odd for a 2001 concert released on DVD. BTW, I reviewed the Archie Shepp DVD from the same label here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=32217
