  1. Next year is looking more and more like a real possibility. Down Beat had a nice overview of the week: Big Ears Festival Embraces Jazz Experimentalism
  2. Woody Shaw Muse Sessions or maybe wait for the Clifford Jordan Strata-East Sessions to come back in print.
  3. I've been hearing great things - both the performances and the venues. Nice review in RS, too: Big Ears 2017: Where Jeff Tweedy Is Noise Star, Symphony Plays on Floor
  4. R.I.P. Arthur
  5. Anyone at (or ever been to) this festival? It's one of the more interesting lineups I've seen anywhere. A wide variety of music centered in downtown Knoxville, TN. I'm seriously thinking of going next year. Big Ears
  6. Two in one week: Chuck Berry, and now Chuck Barris!
  7. I saw this show when we were in London a couple of years ago. https://www.royalacademy.org.uk/exhibition/richard-diebenkorn
  8. Saw a nice showcase at SXSW last week sponsored by the British Underground / Jazz Re:freshed organizations. There were some very talented young musicians there, including GoGo Penguin, Native Dancer and the Moses Boyd Exodus.
  9. Diebenkorn/Matisse at SFMOMA. Go see it if you're in the Bay Area. A real eye-opener, but important to get the audio tour to fully understand the relationship.
  10. But probably not going to be issued again on CD any time soon.
  11. Some great music, for sure. Not to mention that most of it will be very difficult to find now that it's OOP.
  12. you got THAT right, AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!
  13. Oh, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Not AGAIN! Have a great one, FREEEEEEEEEEE!!!
  14. Tortoise is coming here (SF) in April, too. I'll probably go.
  15. I was going to mention that JoeHen set, too. I got it several years ago REAL cheap - I think it was being remaindered at the time. Excellent stuff!
  16. I might be seeing Grandaddy next week. Sounds interesting.
  17. Off topic, but how IS Turing Machine? They used to have a great drummer named Jerry Fuchs who I was familiar with from another band, Maserati. He died a few years ago in a freak accident, unfortunately.
  18. The Complete Mercury Max Roach Plus Four Sessions - first 3 disks.
  19. I saw his band a few years ago. They weren't bad, but not that interesting, either.
  20. As far as I can tell, it's one site now and it works like this: Wolfgang's Vault is now "Wolfgang's" that handles memorabilia and 'stuff', and Concert Vault is now "AMP'd" which handles the concert audio. They're both included in one subscription of $40/year. Considering the amount of historic music available, that seems like a good deal to me. On the other hand, I think that price is for streaming only - downloads cost an additional $5 each.
  21. Interesting. I didn't know about the site update, either. Totally different! Going to have to see what's going on, for sure.
  22. I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know he was still alive. RIP, Mr. Parlan!
