To flesh out my thought, I was thinking about their attention to detail (packaging, liner notes, remastering) for finding and issuing historic recordings appeals to the same audience that Mosaic appeals to.

It's been interesting watching Resonance releases the past couple of years. They're definitely following some of the Mosaic model but with smaller, more focused and affordable sets.

Wow - good catch! I didn't even know this existed. Those MPS albums are by far my favorite GD albums.

Very sad, for sure! I met her brother, Mount, a few years ago. He's the Dir of Operations at SFJAZZ and a very nice man.

I think they're still weekly, although the schedule seems to be erratic lately. I'm sure the staff is pre-occupied with "other things" right now.

Anyone notice that Mosaic is now selling old brochures? There are 3 of them for sale on the "Last Chance" list for $10 each. They must REALLY need cash.

Last night saw Donny McCaslin Quartet and Antonio Sanchez Migration. Sanchez group was competent, but I didn't find the music very inspiring. Part of the problem was that he performed one extended piece for about an HOUR. Not sure what the point was, as it meandered and the 'passages' never seemed to add up to a common 'whole'. It easily could have been multiple pieces that were more focused. McCaslin's band was a breath of fresh air after that. He has an endearing personality and each member of the quartet were allowed to show off their skills and unique personalities. Mark Giuliana (d) was amazing!

For those of you who still use eMusic - they have it.

Saw Hudson tonight at SFJAZZ. A 'super group' of musicians who live in the Hudson Valley of NY: Jack DeJohnette, Larry Grenadier, John Medeski, John Scofield. I think this was their first show. Definitely a loose conglomeration more focused on 'jamming' than tight arrangements and particularly focused on Sco (I don't think he can help himself ). Aside from a few originals, they cover 'popular' songs from the 60s-70s - tonight playing 2 Hendrix tunes, "Wait Until Tomorrow" and "Spanish Castle Magic, Dylan's "Hard Rain's Gonna Fall", Joni's "Woodstock", the Band's "Up on Cripple Creek" among others. Jack even provides a few vocals here and there! Usually, I have problems with jazz covers like this but they deconstruct these tunes to such an extent that they're barely recognizable. Anyway, a good show worth seeing if they come your way. The album drops tomorrow (June 9).

They now provide everything you've downloaded to be streamed. You can even use their site to upload stuff that you ripped or bought elsewhere.

I recently found out that I'm '2 degrees of separation' from McMaster. An old high school friend of mine has known him for many years, and his wife even longer. She knew him in high school in Sacramento. Hopefully I'll get to meet him someday and pick his brains.

Joe Pass, disk #3. Although not sure how much I'm "enjoying" this set. It's a mixed bag, IMO.

I only saw the ABs once. It was a free show in Storke Plaza at UCSB on 10/10/71, less than 3 weeks before Duane's accident. RIP Gregg!

Ha ha! That, too - but an easier problem to fix if the industry wanted to. Also sleeves take up less space on the shelf - a YUUUGE plus!

Worst design ... EVER!

Goes back to the always horrible design of jewel boxes in the first place.

I saw him around then, too. Same deal! I wish I was smart enough to have seen him more times over the years.
