  1. Fresh Sound, too. Some interesting jazz labels, for sure.
  2. There's a nice show at the Fraenkel Gallery in downtown SF right now. If you're in the area, it's worth checking out. Many are original and one-of-a-kind pieces, too. ART & VINYL: ARTISTS & THE RECORD ALBUM FROM PICASSO TO THE PRESENT
  3. Yep - and it's a great companion to the Gerald Wilson big box!
  4. Thanks for the heads up. Interesting concept!
  5. That looks good! I haven't tackled the schedule yet. I'm sure it will be challenging.
  6. I haven't seen that, but I do pay for "Amazon Music Unlimited."
  7. Yes, the Steeplechase selections were surprising to find. Unfortunately, they screwed up the cataloging and a lot of them list the 'Artist' as "Various" for no reason at all. I contacted them and they acknowledged the problem, but couldn't tell me how long it would take to fix. So for now you have to search on "Label" and then Save for Later the albums you're interested in.
  8. I like Amazon. Easy to use and has MORE than enough music to keep me coming back. A few missing albums or tracks is no big deal for me in this situation.
  9. Thanks for reminding me about it. Didn't realize they do a 'traditional' version of "Return to Forever". Listening now - sounds great!
  10. Not sure how many people are still using this service, but they seem to be bleeding albums at an alarming rate since the big make-over. Not sure what's going on over there, but if it continues I might have to finally give it up.
  11. I just discovered this album and kinda like it. It's unfair that she's being compared to Betty, though. She seems to have a lot of other influences going on. Why are people dumping on her? It's her first album!
  12. A remastered version is being released soon. No new music, though.
  13. I'm sure it will be great. Looking forward to seeing him at Big Ears, though!
  14. I want to see just about everything! Going to have to make a lot of tough decisions, for SURE!
  15. This is available on eMusic and Amazon for download, but I haven't seen a CD, either.
  16. I guess he's not making the trip out West.
  17. Seeing the Vijay Iyer Sextet on Saturday at SFJAZZ. Looking forward to it! Slightly different lineup than the album. Vijay Iyer: piano, Fender Rhodes Graham Haynes: cornet Steve Lehman: alto saxophone Mark Shim: tenor saxophone Stephan Crump: bass Marcus Gilmore: drums

    Mark Turner

I've seen Turner several times in different formats and he never really excited me. But the last couple of times I felt that I was starting to understand where he's coming from.

    Agree 100%
  20. It's an unusual set, for sure. I haven't spent enough time with it yet, but I'm in no hurry. Something to look forward to!
  21. That would make sense. I don't remember anything about Schwartz, but that doesn't mean he wasn't there. Schwartz's bio on his website says: "Visiting appointments have included Trinity College of Music, London (1967), the University of California/Santa Barbara (College of Creative Studies, 1970, '73, '74) ..."
  22. Interesting. This would have been between 1971 & '74, but there's nothing there. I wish I had a better recollection of his contribution, or explanation of his appearance.
  23. Clifford Jordan - disk 5, the Wilbur Ware session.
  24. In the early 70's I took a 'History of Jazz' class at UC Santa Barbara. I can't remember the name of the professor (who was very good and opened my eyes to a LOT of great music), but I'm sure that Marion Brown was in residence and available at least a couple of times. I've tried searching for any info on this, but so far have come up empty. Anyone here heard anything about it?
