Definitely one of the more interesting and unique bands to come along in the last 50 years. I got to see them 3 times: in 1974 and then two times in 2009 performing The Royal Scam (once with Larry Carlton sitting in).
At the end of Scott's note about the Chick Webb video he says: "Stay tuned for more Teddy Wilson on Mosaic!!"
Since it's kind of buried, hard to know if that statement still holds true.
I used to see him around SF in the 70s-80s and saw the premier of "Fool For Love" at the Magic Theatre w/Ed Harris and Kathy Baker in '83. I liked his work a lot - both as a playwright and actor.
Fakebook is mostly acoustic covers ... but good! New Wave Hot Dogs and President are 2 of my favs, but very different from Painful. The Prisoners of Love collection is excellent, too.
They're teaming up with Robyn Hitchcock to perform his first album "Black Snake Diamond Role" at the Fillmore in September. I would DEFINITELY go but unfortunately I'm going to be out of town.
It's a little hard to find, for sure.
I just had a packaging issue and couldn't match the pre-sets to get the answer I wanted. I finally got to a place where I could send an email and they responded in less than 12 hours. It was definitely a human response, because the item was no longer in stock and they gave me some options for a refund or replace with a 3rd party seller. They were surprisingly helpful.
There's an interesting festival that's been happening in Knoxville, TN called the Big Ears Festival. It's not a "Jazz Festival" per se, but blends several different genres. This year they had such diverse acts as Wilco, Carla Bley and Henry Threadgill. I'm already planning for next year's dates in March.
