  1. No problems here, but I DO have a paid subscription. At $12/year it's VERY reasonable and also worthwhile to avoid the ads.
  2. Thanks, Jim! Somehow I never knew about these. Vinyl only?
  3. I've listened to the first 2 disks, too. It is fascinating, but I was starting to wonder how many times I will really listen to it. Reading the liners is helping a lot, and will definitely make me go back and listen multiple times. Interesting the comments about listening with headphones (my thought, too). The very last line of the liner notes says: "For best results - and in order to get the most out of the studio dialogue - we suggest listening to this set on headphones". There's also this on the CD3 track page: Transcriptions of studio dialogue for all songs available at: http://plosin.com/milesAhead/Disco.aspx?id=BootlegFJD
  4. Are there ANY Max albums with Billy other than the Horo set?
  5. The new Scott Amendola & Wil Blades album is a lot of fun!
  6. OK - While at Bobby's memorial concert last night, I thought of one more that might have been my first. So to sum up, it was one of these three: Red Clay, Swiss Movement or San Francisco.
  7. Saw the SFJAZZ Collective on Thursday. This year's tribute is Miles, and it was one of the best shows I've seen from those guys. When artists interpret Miles it can sometimes sound derivative or they are trying too hard to replicate his sound. This group made each Miles piece sound fresh and the new compositions complimented the covers extremely well. The musicianship all around was excellent, as well.
  8. If Red Clay wasn't my first, then it probably would have been this.
  9. I'm pretty sure it was this
  10. Can't see them at Yoshi's tomorrow, but will see most of the band on Sunday at the Bobby Hutcherson Memorial concert at SFJAZZ. Also, will see them when they come back this way in Feb. at SFJAZZ.
  11. That price not available when I click on the link.
  12. Next Sunday.
  13. Well ............ now it's more confusing than ever! I'm starting to think that your first guess is the most probable (if it happened at all); that it was a different show altogether.
  14. Thanks, Lon. From what I've heard of this new album, it didn't sound at all sloppy or that he was being overly flamboyant, either. That's why I brought that up. Nice to know that I wasn't imagining the "story," anyway. Good research!
  15. Listened to most of it. Great, as expected. I find myself drawn to the Band of Gypsys more than I ever thought I would. It's really too bad that it didn't work out and they didn't record more material. I've said this before, but Dagger Records' "Baggy's Rehearsal Sessions" is one of my favorite jamming albums. Question for you Jimi-philes (Lon?): I thought I read somewhere that in this first show Jimi pulled out a lot of his theatrical bits and was not well focused. Between sets Bill Graham told him to 'cut the crap' and play. In the second set he basically stood in place and proceeded to play one of his best performances ever. Am I remembering that right?
  16. Which is why I'm not even going to read this piece.
  17. It's now $33.99 on Amazon US.
  18. It will definitely be interesting and emotional.
  19. Didn't go to the service, but have tickets for the upcoming concert.
  20. This website was launched when the first book came out. It hasn't been updated in a while, but still has some good information in it. The Jazz Loft Project
  21. Thanks, kh. Looks like his only Calif. appearance is at the Monterey Jazz Fest.
  22. David just posted this on Facebook. Nice piece!
  23. I wonder if he plans on coming down to the Bay Area. I haven't seen anything in the press about it.
  24. They're going to be at Yoshi's next month, and most of them will also be at Bobby Hutcherson's memorial concert at SFJAZZ that same week. Then they come back to SFJAZZ for a few days in February - in the very intimate Joe Henderson Lab. I'll be there!
  25. I went. Great show! This group is always worth seeing. Billy Hart is always worth seeing - a master, for sure.
