  1. For some reason 2016 seems to be especially heavy on the number and frequency of high-profile deaths.
  2. Agreed, but you can't get all of those for $10. I don't have any of those myself. I recently upgraded all my earlier CDs (through Passion Play) to the multiple disk remastered sets, although I read recently that there will be NEW re-re-master of Aqualung soon.
  3. I thought it was a nice piece, too.
  4. "In My Time" is OUT-standing!
  5. Wow. Very sad. I had a friend who took his own life a few years ago. You just never expect THAT to happen. And then it's too late to help.
  6. This sounds just like MY experience with Emerson - almost word-for-word.
  7. DAMMIT, yer right, AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGggggggggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My bad.
  8. Happy FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-day!! (2016-style)
  9. It looks like they scanned every page of every issue. A lot of reading here!
  10. In reading a piece about Ben Ratliff's new book, they mentioned that a lot of his early jazz education came from reading The Jazz Review. This was a short-lived monthly published from 1958-61 with pieces by Nat Hentoff, LeRoi Jones, Quincy Jones, George Russell and others. I wasn't familiar with it, but every issue is available on the Jazz Studies Online site. The Jazz Review
  11. Have a GREAT one, "Mr Dad"!
  12. Unfortunately, both of them are OOP.
  13. Kamasi - 2nd set of 2 sold-out shows. Very entertaining, but was it great jazz? I don't know. I do know that the crowd of mostly 20/30-something hipsters was having a great time and that says something for any "jazz" show. More often than not I find the audiences for jazz are much older and more sedate, which makes me worry about it's future. These guys bring some hope and an exciting mixture of classic sounds mixed with all sorts of other influences.
  14. Interesting guy. Really has an appreciation and knowledge of all types of music. Spent time at UCLA majoring in Ethno-musicology. Also LOVES to go to Amoeba, but realizes that it's a commitment of at least 2 hours once he goes in there.
  15. "Dusk" (2000) is a pretty good late era, Andrew Hill album.
  16. Posted this morning on FB: "@websterhall was so fun last night!!! Thanks for starting 2016 right for us" Today he's here in SF doing a sit-down discussion this afternoon and 2 shows tonight! Not sure how he does THAT, but I'll let you know.
  17. Just found out that this is being reissued with more "stuff." Steven Wilson said that the reason is to 'conform' to the formats (CD/DVD, extra tracks) of the later reissues that he remastered. I just picked it up last year. I wonder if I can get a credit towards the new version.
  18. I just got through reading that. The archive is a lot more extensive than I realized. I've had a subscription to the Vault for a long time - best value on the Inter-webs!
  19. I'm a dinosaur and only have the digital version. If the show is good enough, I'll buy the CD at the merch table.
