  1. It's the same as the Tate, but I think MoMA might have a few more pieces.
  2. You should definitely try to see the Matisse cut-outs. It will probably be the only chance to ever see them together in one exhibit. FYI - get there early, because it's VERY popular. Good advice. I might go up a couple of days in advance so I can do the museums on a weekday. BTW, I picked up a folio edition of the cut-outs some years ago at a library sale! Sounds like a plan.........and good "get" on the folio!

  4. The Thomas Hart Benton "America Today" mural is also a must-see. First time it's been hung in a room the size of the original installation at the New School. While there, it's also worth seeing the Madame Cezanne collection. Not my favorite paintings, but an interesting study of his portraits of her over an extended period.
  5. I saw that when we were in NYC, too. Interesting and very "dense" with information.
  6. RIP, Joe. I'm sad every time I read about an artist dying of lung cancer - and it happens MUCH too often. It makes me hate the cigarette industry that much more.
  7. I just listened to the clips from the Clifford Jordan set. I wanted this before, but now I REALLY want it!
  8. I was at South by Southwest in 2010, the year they had the ill-fated tribute to Big Star. That was the week that Alex Chilton died. I attended a panel discussion that had been planned around the event, and they set up a video link with John Fry so he could participate. I don't remember if he was originally scheduled or a late add because of the situation. He seemed like a great guy. RIP
  9. Heard this on NPR this morning. Actually, some of it sounded kind of good - very lounge-y/big band-y. Duke The Halls: Bo And Luke Go Caroling
  10. Oh yeah. Sign me up for that $100,000 package right now! No problem. Just wire it to my bank account and I'll make SURE you're signed up.
  11. Have a GREAT one, David!
  12. SFJAZZ Gala 2015 honoring Joni Mitchell
  13. In the spirit of this thread, here's an item that showed up on SFGate today. You get to vote! The Worst Holiday Song
  14. This one is listenable
  15. Add me to the list of those who dislike ALL Christmas tunes. If for no other reason than having to hear these same songs over and over and over and over again, year after year after year after year after ...
  16. Last night: Ravi Coltrane saxophones Nicholas Payton trumpet Adam Rogers guitar Matt Garrison (Jimmy's son) electric bass Marcus Gilmore (Roy Haynes' grandson) drums Nice 2-hour set with some interesting Impulse selections from "Coltrane," "Crescent," and of course most of "A Love Supreme". VERY impressed with Marcus Gilmore, who I haven't seen or heard before. Drumming obviously runs in the family.
  17. A brief summation of Wednesday's panel discussion at SFJAZZ: http://bammagazine.com/a-love-supreme-symposium/#.VItJJyvF9ed
  18. I got mine earlier this week, too.
