  1. Nice piece in Monday's SF Chron: Reflecting on the career and life Orson Welles at 100
  2. I'm nearly twice that age (I said 'nearly' - haha) and have never spent MORE time looking for new music. It doesn't even have to be "new", just something I haven't heard before. I think I would go crazy if I ONLY listened to the same stuff I loved when I was young.
  3. We had that album. I still think about it sometimes. He's about to go onstage to open for Richie Havens. The crowd is chanting "Richie! Richie!" The guard looks at Brooks, who's in the wings. "Your name Richie?" "No." "They're gonna kill you." I haven't actually listened to it in years, but I remember that it had MANY great moments.
  4. I saw them but once in '02. It was indeed a great show. Love them to pieces.
  5. Saw Sleater-Kinney tonight ... HIGH energy!
  6. I always wondered how they got away with this.
  7. I haven't heard it but there's a newly issued Mayall CD, live in 1967 with Peter Green. http://www.amazon.com/Live-67-John-Mayalls-Bluesbreakers/dp/B00T73ATC0/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1430504226&sr=1-1&keywords=john+mayall+live+in+%2767 I noticed that recently, too. It sounds like it's probably bootleg quality, though. I'll need to hear some of it to find out if it's listenable.
  8. ** PLEASE POST FURTHER DISCUSSION OF THIS NEW SET IN THE "" THREAD ** Let's keep it simple, OK? Thanks!
  9. Jazz Blues Fusion is a good album. They're probably all worth getting.
  10. Discussion has already started in the "Vol. 3" thread, but that seems confusing. Here's a "fresh" one.
  11. Thanks for all the input! I have some of those links, but there are some "new" ones, too. I'll definitely check them out. BTW, I can't adjust my schedule, so I guess I'll have to miss Evan Parker - oh, well ... I already got tickets to see Clapton at the RAH. I would not normally go out of my way to see him these days, but seeing him in London in his self-proclaimed favorite venue kind of tipped the scale. Also, our hotel is only about 3 blocks away - so it will be very convenient.
  12. Volumes 1-3 have all been worthwhile, so I don't expect this to be any different. I'm IN!
  13. I'll be in London from 22 May through the 27th. Anyone have any music suggestions - jazz or otherwise? Not necessarily festivals, btw.
  14. He did a 4-day residency at SFJAZZ: 2 days w/Wild Man Dance Suite and 1 day each with the New Quartet, and Bill Frisell See sidebar in this link: Charles Lloyd
  15. Sounds like a great show. I wish I'd seen that one, too! He brought them together on Sunday: Charles Lloyd saxophones, flute Bill Frisell guitar Greg Leisz lap steel guitar, dobro Reuben Rogers bass Eric Harland drums
  16. They were great! BTW, Gerald Clayton was in the house to play piano for the Wild Man Dance show.
  17. New Quartet is: Charles Lloyd tenor saxophone Jason Moran piano Reuben Rogers bass Eric Harland drums
  18. Just saw Charles two nights in a row at SFJAZZ. Last night was the Wild Man Dance Suite - a long series of passages with no break for about 90 minutes. Tonight was Charles with his New Quartet that he's been playing with for several years. Both very interesting and demand fullest attention because of the intricate interplay among the musicians, and well worth it. Nice to see Charles active and vibrant and enjoying himself. My first ever jazz concert was a double bill of his group and Freddie Hubbard's quintet in November 1971.
  19. Seems like we discussed those collections before and that the quality was inconsistent.
  20. Charles Lloyd weekend. Great to see Eric Harland 2 nights in a row, too - he's a monster! Tonight I saw "Wild Man Dance Suite": Charles Lloyd tenor saxophone Gerald Clayton piano Joe Sanders bass Eric Harland drums Sokratis Sinopoulos lyra Miklos Lukacs cimbalom Tomorrow night will be his New Quartet: Charles Lloyd tenor saxophone Jason Moran piano Reuben Rogers bass Eric Harland drums
  21. Didn't know about the import version of that Trane set. Oh, well ...
  22. The Heavyweight Champion: The Complete Atlantic Recordings of John Coltrane $76.04
  23. Re-released Ornette Coleman box - $32.68 Ornette Coleman: Beauty Is A Rare Thing
