Have we talked pedals yet? Here's my current collection. I've had the Boss Looper for a few years, at least, but it's really intimidating to use. I recently got the HardWire Delay/Looper thinking I could do some simple loops with that and get more comfortable with the process. It also has a nice variety of Delay effects. Picked it up CHEAP from Musician's Friend and sold my old DigiTech DigiDelay for about the same price. The Fat Sandwich I also just grabbed at a bargain price from MF. That IS good! One of my favorite KC tunes. Lip-synced or not, it's great to see that early edition of the band "performing".

Many iPhone camera apps have an option to turn on a grid which would help with the perspective issue. As far as the "fish-eyeing" effect, you could move away from the album cover and zoom in. Zooming reduces the image resolution, but that won't be an issue for an album cover thumbnail.

Why not just get the cover art online, like from AllMusic for example?

I'd bet on this version of the future too. Me too. Except, I read that sales of cylinder discs are up by 37% this year... Maybe people are coming to their senses. NOW you're talkin'!!

Saw "Electra" with Kristin Scott Thomas at the Old Vic on London a couple of months ago. Interesting play, and her performance was very intense. It helped that it's a small theatre, and that it was adapted to an "in-the-round" configuration. Added bonus: Ralph Feinnes was sitting a couple of rows away from us.

Last month I saw "It's Only A Play" on B'way with Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, F Murray Abraham, etc. Nothing heavy, for sure - but entertaining.

I think I'll pass on these. While there might be some merit to getting some just to have the music on hand, I think I'll stick to more conventional sources. Thanks for the input, everyone.

I just saw a bunch of great looking collections on Amazon of classic albums boxed on the "Real Gone Jazz" label and the prices are very reasonable. Anyone know anything about these? Quality of remastering? They're identified as 'imports', so are they bootlegs of some sort? Here's an example of a Harold Land box that sells for $11.99.

I never got the Pullen Select because I already have most of the BN albums. I also think that the BN quartet stuff was weaker than their BS/SN and Timeless albums, anyway. I'll have to put both those boxes on my "to get" list, though.

Anyone have the Don Pullen or George Adams boxes? From what I can tell the Pullen is mostly 'solo' albums, while the Adams is mostly Adams/Pullen Quartet sets - is that right? BTW, I emphasize "mostly" in both cases.

It's the same as the Tate, but I think MoMA might have a few more pieces.

You should definitely try to see the Matisse cut-outs. It will probably be the only chance to ever see them together in one exhibit. FYI - get there early, because it's VERY popular. Good advice. I might go up a couple of days in advance so I can do the museums on a weekday. BTW, I picked up a folio edition of the cut-outs some years ago at a library sale! Sounds like a plan.........and good "get" on the folio!

The Thomas Hart Benton "America Today" mural is also a must-see. First time it's been hung in a room the size of the original installation at the New School. While there, it's also worth seeing the Madame Cezanne collection. Not my favorite paintings, but an interesting study of his portraits of her over an extended period.

I saw that when we were in NYC, too. Interesting and very "dense" with information.

RIP, Joe. I'm sad every time I read about an artist dying of lung cancer - and it happens MUCH too often. It makes me hate the cigarette industry that much more.

I just listened to the clips from the Clifford Jordan set. I wanted this before, but now I REALLY want it!

I was at South by Southwest in 2010, the year they had the ill-fated tribute to Big Star. That was the week that Alex Chilton died. I attended a panel discussion that had been planned around the event, and they set up a video link with John Fry so he could participate. I don't remember if he was originally scheduled or a late add because of the situation. He seemed like a great guy. RIP
