  1. I've been trying to reduce my CD acquisition rate and concentrate on downloads (eMusic, Amazon) for the time being. So......no, I won't be joining.
  2. "Members" definitely a good one. Also, hard to find but "The Loadstar" (w/Billy Harper) on Horo is excellent. I don't think it's ever been released on CD, either.
  3. If you just want to sit still for a while and avoid risk, you could roll it into a Money Market fund somewhere (anywhere). The interest rate is lousy, but you won't lose any money.
  4. Tell us about his hair. Has he changed it? It was interesting comparing the hair of Beck and Page at the RRHoF show. My guess is that Jeff's would be as white as Jimmy's (if he would let it).
  5. Ohhhhhh, I thought you meant Nicky Hopkins.
  6. That's interesting because the "new" Gary Duncan Quicksilver plays a fair amount of jazz standards like "Senor Blues", "Maiden Voyage", "A Night in Tunisia", "Round Midnight" and others.
  7. Sounds like a good show. The others in that band are Scott McCaughey (g, kb) and Bill Rieflin (d), who also play with REM.
  8. Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) - "Insurgentes"
  9. I'm so THERE! Who's "That 1 Guy"?
  10. Yes, you do.
  11. I got their latest album from emusic and really enjoy it, thanks for the recommendation!!! Glad you like it. Their live show is very good!
  12. I guess........but I think I would need a few more fingers for that.
  13. Saw that - it was very good. Great to see Beck & Page playing together and having such a good time.
  14. The "big bottom" (2 bass) version of Metallica performing was very good, too. As was the super-guitar jam on "Train Kept A-Rollin'" at the end - Beck, Page, Hetfield, Hammett, Ron Wood, Joe Perry, Flea, both Metallica bass players and Lars. Those "jams" are usually a mess, but this time it worked.
  15. Interesting. Would like to hear about them myself.
  16. Recent CD/boots of vintage QMS or the new Gary Duncan QMS?

  18. Outstanding!
  19. In a month (May 3) going to see the Mingus Dynasty with John Handy sitting in. Should be quite a show - seen the BB a few times, but not the Dynasty.
  20. Not specifically free or outside jazz, but you should check KCSM's datebook for a lot of listings.
  21. You guys ever hear of Maserati? I saw them at SXSW last week and they were pretty amazing - with a relentless drummer. They're an all instro band from Athens, GA and very proggy. Here's a good vid of them:
  22. HOLY CRAP! I was there from 3:54 - 4:17. Bummer. [actually, I was there Saturday night around 8:30]
  23. I saw Earthless three times this week (though I didn't catch the J Mascis gig), I got to spend a good amount of time hanging out with Isaiah (guitarist), he's a very cool laid-back guy. That's funny. The one show you didn't go to was the one that I went to. Also saw Mascis hanging around the guitar show on Sunday afternoon. Did you happen to catch Maserati? Very similar music and an INTENSE drummer.
  24. Don't forget Metallica at Stubb's tomorrow night - though I'm sure that one's not free LOL. Maybe you'll run into BFrank somewhere too. It was "free" if you had a badge or wristband and got there early (both of which I did). In line about 6:45 and they hit the stage at about 9:45 - played for about 90 minutes. Pretty insane, for sure and great to see them in a small, 2,000 "seat" venue (no seats) and up close. Also saw Earthless (w/J Mascis) at Habana on Friday afternoon. Pretty intense stuff. One long jam for about 45 minutes. Other highlights: Dan Auerbach, Peter Murphy, Jon Dee Graham, the Silos, Maserati, Hold Steady, Choo Choo, Iguanas (w/appearance by Flaco Jimenez), Dave Alvin, Roy Head & the Bo-Keys, Silversun Pickups, Waco Bros.
