  1. That's an interesting take on it. How did you arrive at that? It's not like that catalog is ripping up the pop charts or anything. I doubt that he's making a boatload of money on this project. Being Jewish myself, I never came up with that angle.
  2. Anyone like Spoon? Or are they too "mainstream" already?
  3. Meanwhile........the REST of us were playing Miles "Plugged Nickel" disk #3.
  4. Needless to say, eMusic is a treasure trove of indie music. You got everything from Dino, Jr to Fugazi to Spoon to Petra Haden to Dream Syndicate to ...
  5. ... and how will that help YOU, exactly?
  6. As Uncle Skid suggested, "I had a buddy over and couldn't hang at that time." is just Conn's way of saying "I had to make a beer run".
  7. Just got a copy of the remastered "Red Octopus". Forgot what a mediocre album it was. Not more than 1/2 of the tunes are any good. The additional live tracks aren't bad, but I wouldn't recommend rushing out for this one.
  8. I LOVE "Vertical's Currency" and I never realized that he was on it! I also thought I was the only person on the planet who owned it. As for "Special Quartet" and the 2 "Shakill's", those are certainly among my favorite Murrays. I always try to turn B-3 fans on to the Shakill's albums, but frequently get 'push-back' about Murray's playing. He's not usually thought of in the world of "greeze". spinlps mentioned "Morning Song" which is very enjoyable, as well. Finally, let me put in a plug for "Octet Plays Trane". Killer.
  9. You got THAT right!!
  10. Well, yeah. Sleep after sex is not uncommon. touche!!! just have to chime in that, unfortunately, mr. bey bores me too, although he has a nice-sounding voice. i just don't like how he uses it. shirley horn, however, could never bore me. neither could johnny hartman. "nice-sounding voice"?? That's the best you can say of him? Before anyone passes final judgment on Andy, I suggest they check out Gary Bartz' "Harlem Bush Music" albums (now on 1 CD). A totally different experience.
  11. I have picked up all of these. I never had "Taking Off" back in the day and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Signe Andersen was a good fit for that band, too. That live album that kh1958 mentioned is not that bad actually. I didn't like it at first and thought it was pretty sloppy (which it is). But it has grown on me. It can't compare to "Pointed Head", but not much does. Everyone should have picked up the excellent "Blows Against the Empire" by now, too.
  12. I find the Coltrane/Johnny Hartman album pretty sleep inducing, actually.
  13. Are you kiddin'? I have to raise my maturity level while present in the chat room. You said it, not us! Meanwhile...I recently picked up "Easterly Winds" on someone's recommendation (I don't remember who - probably Big Al). It hasn't lit a fire for me, but maybe I just need to give it time. After all, when you've got Lee Morgan and Jackie McLean on board, something's gotta be happening!
  14. Does Shirley Horn put you to sleep, too? How about Mal Waldron?
  15. Discussion topics are WIDE open. In fact, encouraged. Often the commentary breaks down into mindless chatter anyway (not that there's anything WRONG with it ). The CD being played provides a background only. (you can play whatever you want)
  16. Think I'll do that this weekend. Thanks for the reminder, Conn!
  17. Paul Bley - Blood - (International Polydor) with M. Levinson and Barry Altschul, Haarlem, 11/66 Paul Bley - Blood - (Fontana Holland) with M. Levinson and Barry Altschul, Baarn, 9/66 and 10/66 Peter Gabriel - 1977 Peter Gabriel - 1978 Peter Gabriel - 1980
  18. B-3!! B-3!! B-3!! B-3!!
  19. The new Chris Potter on Sunnyside was just added today
  20. Me neither! That puts you smack dab in the SF Bay. That's COLD!
  21. It seems to be available on CD from Tower Records - and a decent price, too!
  22. Anyone read the eMusic message board? It's pretty entertaining. Especially when one of those "trolls" stops by with their This Site Sux posts. All of the die-hards waste no time in nailing him/her to the wall. Pretty funny.
  23. Yep...........George Duke was really good, once.
