  1. Doesn't matter........it'll ROCK, either way.

It's been so many years since I listened to that album, I didn't realize she was on it. I'll have to pull out that LP and give it a spin.
  3. If you're really looking for a "greazzzy jazz mix", I would think that Soulstation1 or connoisseur series500 would be able to come up with some pretty sloppy comps for you.
  4. Check out this re-issue of two great albums - "Taifa" and "Uhuru" - for a very different Andy Bey experience. Harlem Bush Music
  5. Thanks for the heads-up. Most of those Delmarks and the Xanadu are available on eMusic. I'll have to do a little downloading ...
  6. Pre-order on CDU available for $18.89 as of this afternoon. UPDATE: I just pre-ordered one through the link at the top of the page. Should send a few pennies Organissimo's way, as well.
  7. I've only seen him once - in a solo setting - but I've followed his career since the 70's w/Gary Bartz' Ntu Troop. It's true that he's absolutely an original - nothing like him. I like the "rubber band" analogy. I believe they did a Ntu Troop reunion of sorts a year or two ago in Europe. It would be great to see those tunes performed live. Needless to say, other stuff worth checking out includes his contribution to Horace Silver's "United States of Mind" trilogy, recently re-released as a 2-fer on BN. Also some nice vocalizations with Dee Dee Bridgewater on Stanley Clarke's first album - "Children of Forever".
  8. Oh, yeah??? Mine's #4872. I got ya' beat by 52, Conn. HA!
  9. ... and you're buying them ALL. Right, $$1? I managed to snatch one before $$1 came in to scoop up what's left and manipulate the secondary market. Good move, Conn......you can't trust that $$1! That's for SURE.
  10. ... and you're buying them ALL. Right, $$1?
  11. I recently picked up a copy of the Clarke-Boland Sextet "Calypso Blues" recorded a couple of years before "Midnight Mood". It has versions of both "Just Give Me Time" and "Sconsolato".
  12. Enjoy your BIG day, Free! I know you'll do something cool.
  13. Hope yer enjoying your BIG day, Free!
  14. Also some new additions from David S. Ware, William Parker and Eric Alexander. There's also an interesting album from Jay Geils (yes, THAT J. Geils). It's a straight ahead instrumental jazz album in the mold of Les Paul or Barney Kessel. Plus.......if you have lots of DLs saved up (fat chance) - Captain Beefheart's "Grow Fins" collection of rarities and outtakes. All 70+ tracks!
  15. Hey, SS1, you download the latest Jeff Miller EP that they just added today?
  16. About time, Noj......welcome back! I knew you could do it ...
  17. What gdogus said. TONS of stuff for a VERY reasonable price.

    Chico Freeman

Interesting. I've never seen this one. I'll keep an eye out for it. OTOH, AMG doesn't seem to care for it: "... there is an unfinished quality to many of the selections, eight of which are under three minutes in length. Other than Lightsey's contributions, this effort is surprisingly forgettable."

... and don't forget the 2 albums by The Leaders - "Mudfoot" (Blackhawk) & "Out Here Like This" (Black Saint). Arthur Blythe Lester Bowie Chico Freeman Kirk Lightsey Cecil McBee Don Moye
  20. Oops. OK.......fixed, I think. My bad (scotch withdrawals)
  21. I was at that one! My notes indicate that Hubert Laws was the headliner, though. WP second and Lonnie Liston Smith third. Interesting ...

    Chico Freeman

Chico's "Beyond the Rain" and "Destiny's Dance" are nice early-era albums. A little harder to find is Cecil McBee's "Compassion" featuring Chico. Title cut is amazing!
  23. I would love to see THIS show! NY Times CHARLES TOLLIVER'S MUSIC INC. CONTINUUM (Tomorrow) In the 1970's, Music Inc. was a heavy-gauge quartet designed to showcase the exertions of a blazing young trumpeter named Charles Tolliver. This reincarnation features Mr. Tolliver, whose recent re-emergence has been a welcome bit of news, and Cecil McBee, his original bassist; the continuum comes in the form of two youngbloods, the pianist Robert Glasper and the drummer E. J. Strickland. 9 and 10:30 p.m., Sista's Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue, at Jefferson Avenue, Brooklyn, (718) 398-1766 ; cover, $20. (Chinen)
  24. Valuable? In what way?
