  1. I got it, Mike. It is "Young & Foolish". Can't answer your second question, though - sor-ry.
  2. I'm sure this is a great set. I just don't think I could handle that much trombone. I got the Curtis Fuller box when it was Running Low. I realized then that I'm not much of a fan of trombone as a lead instrument.
  3. Thank G-d! I was getting really sick of debating whether to get this set even though none of her recordings that I've heard have turned me. Nonetheless, I considered getting this set purely on the hope that either (1) I would all of a sudden start liking her (which of course could happen), or (2) I would someday decide to part with it and would be able to sell it for big $$$. Buying something as expensive as the Anita set simply in hope that I might like it makes me feel like a fool for spending so much on something I have no reason to believe I'll like (other than the resounding endorsement of many on this board), and buying it so I can maybe sell it later for a big profit makes me feel like the sort of capitalist that I don't want to be. Besides, there are so many sets I'm considering getting that I think I'd like so much more and don't have (i.e., JJJ, Turrentine, Jazz Crusaders, etc.), that now I go back to deciding which of those to pick up next without the threat of missing out on a set that I never considered getting before it hit the last chance list. jbb P.S. Does this sound like sour grapes or am I making some good points? ← This is an EXCELLENT rationalization. So, don't feel TOO guiltiy about missing out on one of the great Mosaic sets ever produced.
  4. All of them are available on eMusic, if you're interested in inexpensive MP3s of this stuff.
  5. Anita - disk #6. I can appreciate it now that it's OOP. Until now, it's just been another box set of CDs.
  6. I figure JJ or Ory is the next ta go? ← According to the web site, JJ is still in the "Running Low" catagory - not "Last Chance" like the Ory set.
  7. I would highly recommend "A Sure Thing" with the great tune "Hip To It".
  8. I wonder how? I've never heard any complaints. I would think that Yoshi's is one of the better venues.
  9. Shouldn't Sony honor their original price with the retailers, too? At least the ones that took the pre-orders. They're doing their job to get the sales and shouldn't be penalized for Sony's change of "heart".
  10. All good points, Eric. I think it's only going to be guys like you and me, though, who will continue to be interested in Mosaic-like hard-copy box sets of music in 20 years. I don't know if there will be enough of us to support a profitable operation by then.
  11. I've always liked their earlier stuff - up through "Oranges & Lemons". "Drums and Wires" was one of the great albums of the "New Wave" movement. I saw them a couple of times in 1980, too. Great live show and it's too bad that they retired from performing.
  12. If anyone's still looking for a deal on this, Red Trumpet has a pre-order price of $42.99.
  13. I only have the Dukes original LP - "25 O'Clock". "Chips from the Chocolate Fireball" is everything on one CD. From what I remember, the other stuff wasn't as good as the original album. Is this worth getting?
  14. Too hard to say because the product itself will be totally different. I suspect that everything will be downloaded in some way by that point. I would also think that the labels will have made their entire catalogs available since there won't be a warehousing issue anymore. So, boutique collectors labels like Mosaic would be a niche market, for sure.
  15. I saw it for over $3 in SF today.
  16. VSOP Records today including: Pepper Adams Richie Kamuca Jack Sheldon Danny D'Imperio Eddie Costa Quintet Herb Geller Quartet Jimmy Rowles Sextet Mel Lewis Sextet Warne Marsh ... and a lot of others. BTW, the new Rollins is showing up as available for me.
  17. I just got an "Order Status" email from CDU with the following info: Cellar Door Sessions 19 by Dav $38.49 Future Release Sep 27, 2005 ... so it looks like were "good".
  18. Larry for me, too. Still have all of them. The only one I've even thought of selling/trading is the Carmell Jones Select set. It's not bad, just not that exciting.
  19. Well, there HAS been a change. Peter at Yoshi's just posted this on another board: Slight change to Night of the Cookers personnel: Spaulding and Weiss are not going to appear. More information tomorrow. youmustbe was right.
  20. Unless there's been a change that hasn't been announced, this is the lineup for the "Cookers" show: BILLY HARPER, JAMES SPAULDING, CHARLES TOLLIVER, DAVID WEISS, JOHN HICKS, DWAYNE BURNO, ROY McCURDY
  21. Mine, too. They're showing the "regular price" now as $97.89. I think we got ourselves a DEAL!
  22. I suspect that James Spaulding had something to do with putting this together as he is the common thread between the original and this show.
  23. Except for the artsy-fartsy type design that they used. Still hard to read. What's up with THAT?
  24. Nice to see all the interest in the Tolliver set. I'll probably get it even though I think I have most of the material already (I'm waiting to see the discography). I like his stuff too much to pass up fresh remasters.
